Dear Parents and Guardians
Thank you for you support over the past week as our students settled back into full-day online learning. We know that you all play a key role at home in supporting your child, our student and to make sure that they have the best possible learning space at home. We have been pleased with the adjustments our students have made, and how they have been active in lessons and participating in the learning activities.
I would like to give a quick ‘shout-out’ to our teaching staff for again being agile in their responses to changing circumstances. As you can likely imagine, shifting from face to face to online teaching takes considerable time and effort. Teachers need to adjust teaching strategies, activities, resources, and the pacing of lessons to make the online lessons as productive as possible for our students. We thank our staff for this extra work late in this term, to ensure our students keep learning whether at school or online.
CAS activities
Yesterday parents and students will have received a message regarding our Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS) program. There are over 100 activities to choose from and we are excited about the opportunity to bring back some extra-curricular activities to enrich the KGV student experience. Please keep in mind that there is no certainty that we can run the activities from the beginning of next term. The CAS program is reliant on KGV returning to a full day model, so we can run the activities during an extended lunch break during school time. We are very keen to get on the front foot and have a CAS program ready to go as soon as we can return to full day schooling. We encourage you to spend some time with your child to look through the teacher and student led CAS offerings and make some selections.
Mock Exams
Thank you in advance for the parents of Year 11 and Year 13 students who will be supporting the students across and holidays leading up to the (I)GCSE and IB Diploma mock exams scheduled over the first three weeks of Term 2. Students have been provided with the exam timetable, study advice and resources to assist them in their study and revision program. Please encourage your son/daughter to contact their subject teacher if they have any questions regarding the exam format and revision program and resources.
Have a good weekend

From Elevate last week we learned that one of the best ways for students to prepare for examsis to use their syllabus statements to organise their work and see what they have yet to master. Year 10 students should start tracking their progress through their syllabus statements now. These are available from teachers and there is good advice on how to use them in the elevate presentation at the link above.

Friday 11 Dec: Last Day of Term 1 for students

Careers & H.E.: Events Calendar, Website & Virtual Careers Sessions
The KGV Careers Office is sharing a lot of information on higher education via different channels/platforms.
This calendar is full of H.E. events around the world and is updated regularly.
Students can find H.E. news, scholarships, and many H.E. resources on the Career website.
We are also arranging virtual careers sessions where industry professionals sharing their expertise and knowledge. KGV students can view some of the past recordings can be found here. The link is restricted to KGV login only. Look out for announcements on Student Bulletin for upcoming sessions.
In the event the whole school returns to full days at some point in term 2 we plan to run a modified CAS Activities program. The CAS activities will run during an extended lunch break time, once we have approval to return to a whole school full day model.
The CAS website is especially designed and dedicated to all things relating to the activities program (https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/). Browse through the site, have a look at the brochures specifically designed for each year group, and then follow the instructions on how to sign up via Lionel.
Activities are open for sign up on Lionel, Thursday December 3rd (8am), until the Sunday December 13th (8pm). A reminder that it is not a first in, first allocated process, as all students who register in oversubscribed activities will go into a lottery allocation process. Therefore, it is very important that you ask parents to approve your participation in CAS activities, by responding to emails sent once you have signed up through Lionel 2, otherwise you miss out on the opportunity to participate. Please note that upon completion of sign-up, some activities may not run.
For more information about signing up, withdrawing, allocation and parental approval click here.
Term 2 Activities start date will depend on when all students are allowed back in school for full days and when we can provide a safe environment for extracurricular activities.
Check the activities website or the bulletin for the latest update.
