Dear Parents
I hope you are all well. As we indicated on Wednesday, we wanted to let you know by today the arrangements leading up to the Chinese New Year break.
Below are some points to explain the arrangements:
Currently, we have one sixth of our students into school each day to complete Mock exams. The Mock exams conclude on Friday January 22nd;
Up until the 22nd January, we can accommodate Years 10 to 13 to also attend school on specific days and still comply with the one sixth requirement;
From Monday 25th January (when Mock exams finish), we can then start to bring in our Year 7, 8 and 9 students;
On any one day a majority of students will continue to work online, this is why we have decided to keep our current timetable;
Students attending face to face lessons will still complete 4 out of 5 periods at school, and finish at 1.25pm;
Due to this 1.25pm finish, the students at school may not make it home in time for Period 5. As a result, lesson resources for period 5 will be available online to enable independent learning;
When students attend school, we will ensure that we have health and safety processes in place that comply with CHP and EDB requirements, such as temperature checking on arrival, mask wearing and social distancing;
We have alerted the bus companies and to let them know to expect enquiries from parents regarding services.
A reminder that all parents must complete the new and updated COVID-19 Health and Declaration form for their child (including Year 11 and 13 students currently completing Mock exams).
Please go to the ESF App and tap on the “Lionel 2 VLE” button and scroll down until you see “COVID-19 Health and Declaration (Jan 2021) and click on the blue ‘click here’ to complete the form. The form should only take a minute or two to complete. A reminder that students cannot attend school until they have completed the form.
Please see the message below from the Vice Principal which details the specific days that students in this year level are invited into school.
Thank you again for your support regarding these arrangements. We are obviously keen to make the most of the one sixth/half day model and invite our students back into school to connect with peers and staff.
I hope you enjoy the weekend.

Principal

Dear Parents,
Happy New Year to you and your families. We hope you were able to enjoy some family time over the break. We have had some very positive reports from teachers this week about Year 7s and their return to school.
This week started with a special assembly to remember one of our Year 7 tutors who tragically passed away over the holidays. Chris Hattam was one of the most caring, kind and thoughtful teachers and tutors who always had time for every student. He leaves a huge gap in our tutor team and our thoughts are with his families and friends at this very sad time. Mr Wrigley is currently working with Mr Hattam’s tutees, as we make sure they receive the help and support they need. Please let us know if your child would benefit from additional support at school and we can help you to reach out to our counselling team.

For Year 7 students, their in-school days are

More information will be sent out next week, highlighting how to sign up for the Learning Review.

Tutors are working closely with students this week to make sure individuals receive the support they need. Please let us know if your child would benefit from additional support at school and we can help you to reach out to our counselling team.

Information for Year 9 Parents - from Dean Beard
Year 9 students will soon embark on this year’s Community Project. This is a service learning project where students will be working in small groups to develop awareness of needs in various communities leading them to take appropriate action. Students will consolidate their learning from the MYP through the Community Project by engaging in sustained, in-depth inquiry leading to service as action in the community.
Following the completion of their action, the students will produce a 15 minute presentation that will reflect on the learning and the skills they have developed. Throughout this project students will complete a process journal that will generate a record of their learning and will be supported by their tutor who will be the group supervisor.
Hyperlinked below are two documents to give you further information:
To support your child during the development of their Community Project, it would be great if you could occasionally spend a couple of minutes asking them what is going well, any difficulties they have and how they might overcome these challenges asking your child to show you their Process Journal
Finally, we appreciate that the parent community at KGV has a wealth of knowledge and expertise in a diverse set of fields. Once students have started their project we would really like to be able to offer students access to mentors who could help guide them through this process. Past themes of student projects have fallen in the following categories; Animal Welfare, Environmental, Medical/Disease and Social Welfare. Parent involvement could be advising the groups through email or holding small meetings at one of the breakaway follow up days. If you are willing to volunteer yourself for this, then please could you contact me directly.
We are looking forward to seeing how the projects develop and will be in contact with further information in due course.
Have a good weekend. Keep warm!

The dates for Year 10 Students are:
Wed 20 Jan, Thu 28 Jan and Thu 4 Feb.
Over the next few weeks, Tutors will be meeting one to one with Year 10 students during tutor time. They will discuss the data from term 1 and explore how your child is progressing, celebrate successes and explore potential support that may be required. Please look out for a Lionel note summarising the discussion and see how you can support or engage from home. With so much learning happening from home, students need parents to become involved and support them more than ever.
