Principal's message
Dear Parents
Congratulations to all our Year 11 and 13 students who have completed their mock exams over the past few weeks. I know many students studied hard over the holidays and weeks leading up to the exams.
The mocks serve to provide:
feedback to students on learning progress on elements of the subject covered so far
teachers with feedback as to individual and class learning progress
Just in time information and data to inform the teaching and learning program in the weeks leading up to the exams in April and May.
Thank you also to all parents for making sure that our students can attend school on their rostered days. We have had close to 100% attendance for year groups on their days at school so far. We look forward to welcoming back to school our Year 7, 8 and 9 students next week.
As you will be aware, our school is keen to receive parental feedback to do all we can to maximise the learning progress and wellbeing of our students in these unique times.
Please assist us by completing this ESF wide survey for our KGV School. The survey has eleven questions and should only take a couple of minutes to complete. Please click on this link and thank you in advance for completing the KGV survey.
Please enjoy the weekend.
Kind Regards,
Mark Blackshaw
Principal
Dear Parents and Year 13 students,

I hope you had the chance to view the video we sent home last week and have talked to your child about their preparations for Monday. A heads up about the Creative Arts rotation which will happen over the weekend. Please ask your child to check their timetable on Sunday to make sure they see which Creative Arts subjects/ teacher they have from Monday onwards.
Our main messages to you this week concerns the release of Semester One Reports as well as the opportunity for you to meet your child’s teachers.

Year 7 Learning Review
Tuesday 2 February is the date for the Learning Review, which will run from 2.30pm - 6.30pm. All parents will be able to access the appointment system from Wednesday 27 January to schedule times to see teachers. Please note the following points;
Period 5 lessons on Tuesday 2 February will be ‘asynchronous’, giving students the opportunity to join parents in the Learning Review appointments
From now until Tuesday 26 January, subject teachers will be booking in appointments with parents they need to see on the Learning Review evening. As parents you are able to see these appointments appearing in your appointment system on LIONEL. Should you see an appointment appear at a time which is not convenient for you, please can you email the teacher directly to re-arrange
From Wednesday 27 January, the appointment system will open to parents and you will be able to make appointments with the teachers you would like to see. The appointment system will close at 6pm on Monday 1 February.
Please be aware that the system puts a break between parent booking times, meaning you cannot have two meetings back-to-back. Teachers, on the other hand, have meetings back-to-back
These meetings will be held virtually, using Google Meet. You will not be ‘admitted’ into an appointment until the exact scheduled meeting time (as teachers are likely to see be speaking to parents from an earlier appointment)
Please have questions ready to ask your teachers, who will focus specifically on your child.
General questions about curriculum and units still to be studied, can be asked in our Curriculum Information Talks. Mr Shiel, our MYP Coordinator is working with our Heads of Departments to collate a suite of videos for you to watch, which outline what we study in Year 7.
Specific teacher information
You should only book Creative Arts appointments with the teachers your child had up to 22 January. Do not book appointments with their new creative arts teachers.
Mr Subnani has taken over Mr Hattam’s DT teaching group. He is still getting to know the students and will be contacting individual parents as and when necessary over the course of the year. As a result, Mr Subnani is not available on the booking system
Ms Barton will be on maternity leave by the date of the Learning Review and is currently meeting with parents. She will not be available at the Learning Review
Ms Yao is also on maternity leave (Mr Wong appears on the reports as the teacher). Neither of these teachers will be available at the Learning Review. Mr Wong will be in touch with individual parents throughout the remainder of the year.
A lot of information here! Please let me know if you have any questions.
A reminder that Year 7 days in school are
Monday 25 January
Monday 1 February
Wednesday 10 February
Have a lovely weekend.
The students I spoke to today were very relieved to be finished with their mock exams. Scripts and results will be returned to students within a 2 week window and we will create a summary document in time for the CNY break.
We would like all students to continue working towards and preparing for their final (I)GCSE exams. Feedback from the mock exams will be very important for students to identify areas requiring focus and help.
Year 11 will attend school on the following dates:
Please ensure they bring a snack and water bottle. Students will make their way home at the end of period 4 at 1.25pm on these days. Period 5 will consist of work set online to be completed when they arrive home.
Please congratulate your child on the effort they have put in and the resilience they have shown over this mock exam period.
Kind regards,
Tim Carrell
Vice Principal
