Dear Parents
As you may have read from Ms Belinda Greer’s message we are working to put the procedures in place to have our staff regularly tested for Covid-19, in order to bring all of our students back into school for half days, from Monday to Friday.
We will continue to communicate with you across next week as we finalise our schedules going forward, and at the moment, we are considering maintaining our current timetable model. We will look to swap Period 5 again following the Easter break to make sure the online Period 5 lesson does not land on the same subject.
Next week our Year 7, 8 and 9 will attend school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday again, with Year 10-13 students coming into school on Tuesday and Thursday. Year 12 BTEC are in Monday, and Thursday and Year 13 BTEC are in school Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday.
We have had many positive discussions this week between teachers, students and parents, during our Y10 Learning Review sessions, IB Parent Information sessions and Friday Feedback. As always, we appreciate your support in this partnership between school and home, to ensure we create the best opportunities for your child, our student.
Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw

They should continue to study, revise and prepare for final exams in every subject, even those where the external exams have been cancelled.
We will be meeting with students and teachers over the next week to seek input, discuss and finalise arrangements for exam leave and assessments for subjects where external exams have been cancelled. We hope to share those arrangements with you here next Friday.
The following external exams are confirmed to run in May/June: Business Studies, Chinese, Computer Science, Drama, English, Geography, ICT, Korean, Music, Sports Studies and World Literature.

PSHE - Relationships and Sexuality Education
In PSHE this term, Year 10 and 11 students will be participating in Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE) lessons.
RSE is a core element of student wellbeing and holistic development which builds knowledge, skills and behaviours to empower young people to make positive, safe and responsible choices. RSE focuses on respect for oneself, and others. It combines the biological, social and emotional aspects of sexuality education.
The lessons will be underpinned by a focus on strong, positive, empathetic relationships, and topics will include: diversity, rights and responsibilities, safety, contraception, effective communication and decision-making. We want all students to feel confident to participate in an atmosphere of trust and mutual respect.
If you have any questions about RSE, please feel free to contact Mr Jack Chappell. My colleagues and Mr Chappell are looking forward to engaging with students on these important topics.

Dear Parents
Our amazing Year 7 students have had a very productive three days in on the KGV campus this week. Tutors and teachers have really enjoyed seeing them in person across the week and having the opportunity to touch base with them. A reminder that we keep the same days next week, of Year 7 students attending school Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with lessons in Period 4 and 5 still switched.
We met with our Year 7 Student Council representatives this week who are helping us to trial a new MYP vocab folder. The Student Council representatives will work with us to see how best to promote vocabulary development, alongside organisational skills as we continue to reflect on our MYP practice.
As stated in last week’s bulletin, Creative and Performing Arts teachers will be talking to students about their subjects for Year 8 and the curriculum content. This will provide students with the information they need to decide as to which of the four subjects to drop for Year 8.
Ms Carlisle will be following up with students who have sent in audition pieces for the Music Academy.
Have a lovely weekend
The Year 7 Team
Dear Parents
Thank you to all parents who have given feedback around last week’s Learning Review. This information really helps us to identify how we can continue to improve the home-school partnership.
Next week we hope to open our options system on LIONEL where students can submit their language and Creative and Performance Art choices for Year 9. Below is a reminder of the decisions which need to be made.
Students need to decide on which of the four Creative and Performing Arts subjects they will no longer study in Year 8. Students currently study three out of the four CPA subjects; namely, music, drama, art and media. Depending on their current subjects, students will decide on whether to stop learning either art or media (Creative Arts block) or from the Performing Arts block, music or drama. Students will spend Year 9 studying one subject from each of the Creative and Performing Arts blocks.
Students will also need to make decisions about their language pathways. Students can either
Continue to study both their European and Chinese languages.
Drop their European studies and increase their Chinese language lessons.
Keep either their European or their Chinese Language and pick up a new course called Global Perspectives.
We look forward to seeing our Year 8 students again on Monday, Wednesday and Friday next week on the KGV Campus.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 8 Team.
Dear Parents
I hope your child has had a good week learning both online and in school. We have certainly enjoyed seeing them around school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday this week. Next week, they are also scheduled to attend school on these three days.
We are doing a lot of work at the moment with groups of students around the themes of tolerance, empathy and understanding. This week we have found some online gaming behaviours manifesting themselves on the school premises. Please can you speak to your child around their behaviours online and the language they use with friends. What can appear (or be intended to) be harmless banter, is in fact deemed to be offensive and unwanted by recipients. We would welcome your support in ensuring our young people treat each other kindly and respectfully. We have our Year 8 & 9 Student Council Representatives working on projects to raise awareness of language use and empathetic behaviour amongst our Year 8 & 9 students. We will give more information on this in the coming weeks.
Have a great weekend.

Our Remarkable Story
HSBC Bank Of The Future Competition
A team of four remarkable students from KGV exceeded the expectations of judges at the HSBC Bank of the Future Competition held in December 2020. After working extensively to create their vision of the future of banking, the team was awarded 1st place, beating hundreds of other teams within Hong Kong. When interviewed, the team revealed that the most significant lesson learnt was not working to win, but rather how to work as a team where everyone contributed and had a shared responsibility. They all agreed that the process definitely surpassed the overall outcome in this competition. The team would like to give special thanks to Mr. Goff and Mr. Wray for their immense support and guidance.
A total of over 1,400 solar panels have been installed with a generation capacity of approximately 455 kW across eight campuses. The green energy generated by the solar panel systems over the course of a year will be enough to meet the annual electricity needs of around 110 four-person households in Hong Kong and reduce almost 280 tonnes of carbon emission.
The solar panel system in the Peel Block at KGV School is unique because it is a Grade II historic building in Hong Kong. The installation of the solar panel system in the school requires sophisticated planning and treatment in order to ensure the highest level of protection to the historical building.
