Dear Parents
We had a positive final week, which was a good way to finish the term. I again want to express my gratitude to all in our KGV school community, for how we have supported each other across the term. This term has brought some obvious twists and turns, and the support of our parent community along this journey is truly valued and appreciated.
I will update you all as needed across the holiday period via the ESF App, and provide a back to school update on Friday 9 April.
I hope our students and families enjoy the holiday, and we look forward to starting Term 3 on Monday 12 April.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw
Message from the Year 7 Team
Dear Parents
This week we want to give a massive shout out to Brianna Searle (07U03) who has completed her PE passion project this week. Her goal was to complete the 50km Hong Kong Trail and beat her current record of 10 hours and 7 minutes. Brianna ended up doing it in 8hrs and 6 mins which was 2 hours faster than last time. A remarkable achievement! We are all proud of you Brianna.
We are also exceptionally proud of all our Year 7 students who have not only survived, but thrived throughout Term 2. We have been humbled and delighted at their ability to keep going and give their all during this term. They fully deserve a break away from their screens and school books.
Thank you to all families for meeting the Year 7 options deadline. We will follow up with you after the break when we will be asking parents to confirm the option choices we have in the system.
A reminder that after the Easter break we are in summer uniform (no tie) and we will be swapping the original Period 5 lessons with Period 3 lessons. LIONEL timetables will be adjusted automatically to show this. I will send an email to Year 7 - 9 students at the end of the break to remind them.
In the meantime, on behalf of the Year 7 Team, have a lovely break. Stay safe and look after one another.

Elevate webinars are very helpful for parents to understand and assist students with their study and organisation skills. Last Tuesday they ran a webinar on Note-taking. KGV parents can access the replay here until 29 March.
The next webinar is on Memory on 29 March. Here is the sign-up link.
Delay in term summaries
We were planning to send out a Term 2 assessment summary today, but this will need to be delayed now because assessments could not be carried out last week and need to be rescheduled. We hope to have this ready a week after the spring break.
We hope you have a restful and safe break.
There is quite a lot of information for Year 11 students and families right now. Some below is a repeat of the message I sent to students and parents during the week.
Exam fees. You’ve probably just received an invoice from the school for exam board registration fees. These are often referred to as “exam fees”, but they are the fees charged by the exam boards to register your child, administer and award the qualification. They cover all the costs involved in certification, maintenance of the curriculum and much more. An element of this is the supply and marking of the exams. Last year, a percentage of the fee was refunded to parents due to savings from not marking the exams. We anticipate something similar from the AQA and Edexcel boards this year, but cannot say how much it might be.
Studiosity. KGV is pleased to partner with Studiosity to offer online tutorial support and writing support for our students as they approach their exams. There is no cost to families for this service.
Students will be able to ask study questions and get help from subject specialists in real time, even after hours, such as in the evenings and at weekends.
Studiosity is designed to be used alongside our existing support we provide for students. Recent research conducted in Australia across educational institutions found that students who used this service performed better, with significant improvement in marks among students who used it five or more times.
Please encourage your child to login and activate their account. If you wish to find out more information about this service, please visit http://www.studiosity.com
Assessments. All of your subjects will run an assessment before the end of the school year. The attached schedule shows you every assessment. The exams in blue are the external exams. They are set by the Cambridge exam board and cannot be adjusted. You already have a personal exam timetable for those external exams, including details of the timings and locations of the exams. The assessments in pink are the internal assessments for the rest of your subjects. We will add details like exact location and time at the start of Term 3. This is a final draft, so it is possible there may be some small changes.
See the draft assessment schedule
Content of the internal assessments. The internal assessments are not full exams. They will be shorter and by the end of this week your teachers will tell you what topics will be assessed so you know what to study. Your mark for these assessments will be combined with other assessments in that subject to generate your overall grade. An email from Science yesterday suggested you should study everything in the course, but this is not the case and you will be given a list of topics before this Friday.
How your grades will be determined. Each subject will use a ‘basket of evidence’ to determine your final grade. This evidence could be composed of summative assessments, mock examinations, coursework and the final internal assessments. Your final internal assessment will provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate the progress you have made this term and will impact on your final grade. We are waiting for the exact details of this process to come from the exam boards and will update you when we know more. More information is available from Pearson on their support page here.
Study leave. Your final day of lessons in school will be Friday 23 April. This will be a normal day with face to face classes periods 1 to 4 and lesson 5 online. From this point onward you will prepare for your exams at home. However, if you find that working in school will be more productive then you will be able to do this. Designated rooms will be set aside for you to work in. Should you be working in school then you will need to remain on site until at least the end of Period 4. You will be given an exam pass that you must bring with you whenever you come to school, but you will need to remember to sign in as usual when you arrive at school. On the days of your exams please make sure you arrive in school early enough to give yourself plenty of time to be ready for your exams.
Exam info pack and exam pass. After the spring break we will give you a full exam pack and your exam pass. The exam pack will have all the rules, regulations and information you will need for your exams. For now, make sure you keep your personal exam timetable containing your candidate number safe.
Tutorials and Studiosity. During study leave, when you need help with your revision, you can email your teachers. You may be able to meet them online during your regularly scheduled lesson times. There will be specific online tutorials offered and advertised that you can access. If you want instant help, use your Studiosity account. You can work with an online Maths, Science and English expert any time for free. You received an email to sign up to this service on Thursday 11 March.
Our Y13 students are now busy with exam preparation and finalising coursework, while the Careers & Higher Education team is working on how to best assist them with their offers and post-exam release. More details will be available after the Easter break. Stay tuned.
Students are encouraged to keep in communication with their HE counsellor and also use unifrog to update offers and destination choice.
Works are in plan for “Exiting KGV” sessions when Y13 students return from Easter. One of them is two half-day workshops on 25 & 26 May 2021. More information will follow after the Easter break.

Term 2 has been a very busy time for our Year 12 students in the area of higher education.
Unifrog: Students were introduced to Unifrog, the portal that KGV School uses for H.E. research and application updates. All Y12 students are given a Unifrog account and have been reminded to use the portal to research options for higher education & careers, preparing CVs & personal statements, and keeping track of the application process. It is also a communication tool between students and their H.E. counsellors on the status of their applications.
1-to-1 meeting with H.E. Counsellor: Most of our Y12 students have had their 1-to-1 conversation with their H.E. Counsellors before the end of Term 2, to discuss their aspirations, how to do research for higher education options. Notes from the interviews are shared with students via Evidencer on LIONeL. Parents are encouraged to discuss their children’s aspirations and post-KGV options.
H.E. presentation series: A number of presentations on higher education are lined up right after the Easter break. Please refer to the attached schedule. All presentations are after school and conducted via Zoom. Though recordings will be available on LIONeL after the presentation, students should try to attend these presentations as much as possible for live chat and asking questions online.
We wish all of our Year 12 students a restful and peaceful break.

Dear parents,
With the disruptions this year I wanted to take an opportunity to provide you with more details about the learning that has taken place and will take place this year in Maths at the MYP level (year 7 – 9). With that in mind I’ve put together the linked documents which offer a bit more detail than was laid out at the start of the year and also contain references to the textbook as well as links to online sources we use in class. My hope is to give you a better picture of the essentials that have been covered this year and support you in helping with Maths at home.

Congratulations Jayesh and Riccardo (Class of 2020). We are so proud of you for the achievement of the Blockathon.
The Blockathon blockathonasia.com is a triumphant success. They have earned the interest of both local and international partners. The platform will now give students a meaningful opportunity to engage with Start-ups and the new technology space.
Jayesh and Riccardo said -
As KGV Alumnus and proud Lions we have launched The Vuze. This project comes after years of working with the school on other entrepreneurially based initiatives such as The Innovation House and Blockathon during our tenure which only last year came to an end after entering KGV in 2013. Upon completing the International Baccalaureate we took the opportunity to develop our own startup which brings us to where we are now.
As lifelong learners due to the ideals instilled in us by KGV we aim to innovate and disrupt until the music industry is transparent and provides each artist with the recognition and provisions they deserve.
