Dear Parents
We have enjoyed a productive and action packed first two weeks of school. There seems to be a lot of positive energy about the place, with our students coming into school every day. Now having four out of five lessons each day face to face at school is good for learning, connecting and relationships. We are also looking forward to getting back to full days, hopefully in the months ahead.
Excitingly, we are starting a range of co- curricular before school activities from this Monday 26 April. Due to the requirement to come in for a maximum of half days, before school is the only practical place we can run co-curricular activities, without losing lesson time. Thank you to the staff who have made it possible, by getting to school between 7.00 am and 7.30 am in the mornings to start the activities. At this stage we have over 25 activities and 500 students involved. Many of the sports and activities will be modified, to ensure that we continue to comply with CHP and EDB safety protocols. As social distancing measures further relax, we hope to be able to return to after school and lunchtime co-curricular activities and events, which then allow even more students to be involved.
I would like to take this opportunity to wish our Year 11 and Year 13 IB students well, in their upcoming study leave program and then exams. Our Year 13 BTEC students will continue to attend lessons as normal, as they work hard to complete the final aspects of their courses. I would like to thank all our teachers and staff for the support they have provided our students over the past two years. It has been a complex and challenging time, and we are so very proud of our students and what they have been able to achieve. We have great confidence that they will continue to work hard, prepare well and fulfill our famous school motto of Honestas Ante Honores - Honesty Before Glory. We know our students will strive to do their very best.
We are also looking forward to our Year 9 students participating in the Community Project on this coming Monday. This work is one of the culminating events of the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and it is exciting to see the student-led action based projects coming together.
Thank you to all our families for their ongoing support. I hope all our families have a great weekend.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw
Dear Parents
A big shout out this week to three of our amazing Year 7 students who worked with KJS School last week. They were invited along to speak to all Year 6 students about their PYP exhibition. Ms Dawn Doucette, KJS Vice Principal and Ms Aarti Gupta, Year 6 Leader, emailed Mr Wrigley this week to congratulate Suhani Mehta, Momoka Kobayashi and Max Ma on their excellent presentation skills. Well done students! You were remarkable ambassadors for KGV School.
Hopefully some of you are able to take advantage of the early morning co-curricular activities which will start next week. This will be an excellent opportunity to get fit, have fun and meet new friends.
Thank you all for confirming your child’s option choices. This will help us organise our timetable for next year.
A reminder that next week our timetable will shift again. Students' original Period 5 lesson will switch with Period 2. LIONEL will be updated to reflect this change from Saturday onward.
Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents
Year 9 students have a full day working on their Community Project on Monday 26 April. They will work in their groups and continue to investigate their ideas and plan the next stage of their project. We are looking forward to working with Year 9 students on Monday.

The Term 2 summary was released last Monday and this data will be used by tutors as they meet 1:1 with all Year 10 students over the next few weeks to check on their progress and well being. If you have any concerns or questions, this would be a good time to communicate with your child's tutor.
Next week there is a subtle timetable shift as we swap Period 2 and 5, so that the same classes are not taught online week after week. The change will happen behind the scenes in Lionel and students will follow their Lionel timetable as normal.
Today was the last normal day of timetabled lessons for Year 11 and they are now on study leave. Students will attend school for exams or may use the school facilities for study. When they come into school, they should be in uniform and should bring their exam pass.
In the newsletter last week I linked in the exam timetable and outlined the exam and grade awarding process for this year. There will be more detail to share as we document which assessment data will be used to determine grades for the non-examined subjects. We'll share this when it is ready, in a few weeks time.
We are putting together a program of activities for Year 11 students following their exams. This is likely to start on Thursday 10 June and finish on Friday 25 June. The activities will focus on preparing students for next year as well as some student-led learning and will also include some Challenge Week-type activities since students missed out on Challenge Week this year. For this, students will be able to choose from a list of activities, some of which will involve costs. We'll develop a sign-up and information process very soon.
Please keep a close eye on your child over the next weeks and watch for signs of anxiety or tiredness. Please help them to maintain a healthy schedule, getting enough sleep and exercise.
It has been an emotional week for our Year 13 students as they had their last full week of formal lessons.
Year 13 BTEC teachers continue to support our BTEC students and our IB teachers are available to support students during normal timetabled lessons up until the Examinations commence next Thursday 29 April.
We remind all our students to continue to reach out to our Year 13 team if you have any issues that need resolving at any time.
Have a great weekend.
Our Year 12 students have had a busy week and will now be the most mature students on Campus after our Year 13 students finished formal lessons this week.
All Year 12 students will receive updates early next week on Term 3 Assessments. Some subjects will be assessing students in the School Hall and these Assessments will take place in the week beginning Monday 31 May. We are currently finalising the schedule and will inform students of the exact dates and timings in due course.
Have a great weekend.

The KGV Careers Office also shares a lot of information on higher education via different channels/platforms.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our call for help with cancer patients in our community.
KGVers really pulled their weight for Jeanna's crowd funding to fight her brain cancer!
We would like you to know that Jeanna started her treatment last week.
She has embarked on a journey to fight this brain cancer by wearing electric field arrays to her scalp and to lug around a generator for as long as possible every day for the rest of her life.
She will never grow back her hair to her previous shoulder length again because of this treatment. Her courage is inspiring. We have a video message from her here, expressing her gratitude to you.
The name of her treatment is called Tumor Treating Fields. Specific for the treatment of Glioblastoma, a brain cancer that has a less then 5% two-year survival rate. We hope you will continue to support her.
Thank you.
