Dear Parents
There was a real energy about the school this week with our Year 11 students back at school after their exams. I would like to congratulate the Year 11 students on how they have approached the exams, with a steely determination and a willingness to do their best.
On Thursday, our school community took time to pause and acknowledge Mr Chris Hattam during our ‘Celebration of Life’ online event. It made it extra special to have Mrs Hattam, family and friends in the school, for a small gathering and to be part of this occasion. Our students watched the online celebration in tutor groups, supported by their tutor. In remembering Chris, people spoke of his kind and generous spirit, and how he always had time for others, and to make those around him feel valued and worthy. Chris has left an incredible legacy, and will be sadly missed.
Today it was a pleasure to welcome our CEO Belinda Greer to our school. Belinda was here especially to farewell our long term staff - Kin Fai To, Connie Hue, Ian Greenfield, Andy Cockayne and Joyce Kam. Belinda spoke of the significant contribution they have all made to KGV and ESF, and the positive impacts they have had on our school and our students. We wish them all well in the future.
Have a good long weekend.
Kind Regards,
Mark Blackshaw
Year 10 Message
We are proud of the way our Year 10 students are continuing to work hard right to the end of the term. In the next few weeks they will get another chance to spend time with the Year 9 students coming into their tutor groups and to say farewell to the Year 11 students leaving their tutor group.
Many subjects are completing assignments and assessments at the moment and students will receive a Term 3 summary report in the last week of school.
Year 12 Message
A huge thank you again to our Year 12 student leaders for their great support and assistance with our incoming new students to KGV who visited today.
We would like to wish all of our Year 12 students a restful holiday weekend after what has been a very tiring and busy assessment week. Please enjoy the few days break and come back refreshed and ready to finish the academic year strongly on Tuesday!
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Yesterday the KGV community paid tribute to Mr Hattam. As a school, we came together virtually to remember a teacher who “saw the best in everyone and left no child behind”. Staff and students spoke fondly of their memories of this great teacher who had given so much to KGV students over the past 20 years. A fitting tribute to an exceptional teacher; a wonderful celebration of life!
Next week, our students will again be spending time with their new tutor and tutor group. Following Monday’s public holiday, students will go to their new tutor groups on Tuesday, 15 June.
Period 5 and Period 3 remain as the swap in the timetable next week. LIONEL has been updated to reflect this change.
Have a great weekend.

Don't forget that Monday is our early finish, with students leaving school at 1:00 p.m. Canteen facilities will be available for lunch between Tuesday to Friday. Drinks will be available on Monday in Leo’s cafe.
Community Project update:
The students had a very successful day on Monday reflecting on all of the different aspects of their project and preparing. This involved preparing for the final assessment by producing a short video summarising their project journey. The final stage is Demonstration, where the students' supervisors will watch, feedback and assess the final outcome. It is worth mentioning again how the students have demonstrated courage and resilience to engage so well with the project during what have been challenging times.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 9 Team
You should be very proud of the way Year 11 students returned to school on Thursday. Their mature approach to the challenges presented by our nine NGOs was impressive. The NGO representatives all commented on the dedication and engagement shown. We wanted to give students a learning and collaboration opportunity that wasn't focused on exams, but rather making a difference in the world and addressing the UN sustainability goals.
Next week, students are in school on Tuesday and Wednesday to learn about the ways of thinking and working that are fundamental to success in Year 12 whether at KGV or elsewhere and to learn more about university and further education application processes.
On Thursday and Friday we begin our subject specific preparation sessions with Maths, Sciences and English.

General reminder for notice of absence: Please kindly send your request for absence (sick leave, early leave, late arrival) to the Year Group absence email address before 8:10 a.m.Our PTSA shop has been serving our parents and students with uniform and stationery supplies since the conception of the PTSA. We thank our parents and students for their ongoing support. However, things are changing in terms of our operations.
Due to EDB requirements, all PTSA across ESF schools will be moving the selling of school uniforms to an ESF central procurement process, a centralised online platform where parents can purchase uniforms. Presently we are working on a transition to the new online shop, where parents deal directly with the supplier and the PTSA no longer sells uniforms. The new platform will be in service from 19 July 2021 onwards.
The PTSA shop at KGV will be in service till 30 June 2021, Monday to Friday, 8am-3:45pm. We encourage our parents to seek to purchase uniform items before then, and to take advantage of the personalised shop experience, direct pickup and multiple payment options. Once our stocks run out, parents will need to purchase the equivalent version of our uniform, from the new website and supplier. Please note, we have kept the uniform range as close to the present one as possible. Please be reassured that students can continue to wear all uniform items (current and new version) into the future.
Y11 students - all students are expected to wear senior uniform in Y12 and Y13. All Y11 students are requested to purchase their senior uniform from the PTSA shop before 30 June.
Exchanges - all exchanges must be done before 30 June 2021, provided sizes are available.
Thank you for your continued support, and we encourage you to visit us before 30 June and take advantage of our personalised shop experience.
Sodexo service
We are pleased to inform you that our catering provider Sodexo, has resumed a catering service for our students from 1 June and will continue till 30 June 2021, albeit in a limited capacity. Due to Covid restrictions, and the need to closely supervise eating, food is only served at lunchtime. Eating areas are designated and teachers assigned to ensure social distancing and hygiene measures are closely followed. Please note all hot meals will be served prepacked in disposable packaging as required by the guidelines.
Sodexo will be providing beverages and lunch at three of their outlets. All transactions will be with Octopus payment - Please ensure your child has enough value added to their card before coming to school.
The service will be as follows: Open Monday- Friday :
The Main canteen will remain closed until Government restrictions are lifted. A menu for next week is attached for your reference.
Our Remarkable Story
As India’s second COVID wave continues to ravage the country, the global Indian diaspora anxiously watches and waits.
In Hong Kong there are nearly 38,000 Indian nationals or people of Indian origin, according to the website of the Consulate General of India in Hong Kong.
Rhea, our KGV student from Year 10, worries about her grandparents and other elderly people in India. But she says it is also important to give back to people in need there. During the pandemic, Rhea has been tutoring a group of students through an organisation. They connect tutors around the world with students from the building blocks schools, which provide education for young children living in India's slums.’
Her story has been featured in Young Post. Read the article here - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FIOeFXjEy-4lFNRs29IBLj6n5VA6Kq4J/view?usp=sharing
