Dear Parents
This week seemed to fly by with the Monday public holiday, and lots of learning and activities to fit into the last four days. It is also hard to believe that another academic year is almost over, with only eight school days left to finish up the year. The final day of term is Wednesday 30 June, with a 12.30pm finish.
We can also confirm the 2021-22 calendar, which is available here. The main highlights are:
2021-22 Year 7, 10 and 12 students, and all students new to the school, start Thursday 19 August
All students attend school on Friday 20 August (2021-22 Year 8, 9, 11 and 13 students first day)
All schools have five continuous professional development (CPD) days each year. We have two days scheduled for August 17th and 18th. The other CPD days are scheduled on a Saturday or outside school time, so students will not have any further days off school for CPD across the year.
The term holidays are similar to this year, with a mid term break during first term, a three week break over the Christmas period, a one week break for Chinese new year, and a two week break at the end of term 2.
Challenge week is in the first week of November (starting Monday 1 Nov)
Obviously, we need to maintain our flexible approach in this COVID environment. We are planning to continue full day schooling for the start of Term 1 in August. We will keep you all informed as needed across the summer break, and confirm arrangements in the first week of August. For those intending to travel overseas across the summer break, please endeavour to ensure students are ready to start school on either the 19th or 20th of August. Please let the school know if, due to unforeseen circumstances, travel plans change.
Wishing you a great weekend.

Many thanks to all of our Year 12 students who have helped us with our work on Inclusion and Equity this year. We are having an assembly on Monday, 21 June which will be led by our students and will be discussing our work around Inclusion and Equity and our plans for next year.
Wishing you a great weekend.
We now have only a week and a half to go this term. Students will be sent a list of summer work and a summary of academic progress will be shared with parents before we finish for the academic year.
Year 11 students have engaged enthusiastically with their activities this week. My favourite moment was the final of the Interhouse Knowledge Competition on Wednesday. Nightingale were the winners with great examples to back up their arguments about the value of different types of knowledge.
Next week we have online learning opportunities on Monday and Tuesday. Wednesday sees all students back in school for their last formal day as Year 11. They will have a chance to celebrate the year and to say goodbye to their tutors and fellow tutees. Thursday and Friday see a range of outdoor activities to allow students an engaging experiential activity together to finish off their year.
The calendar of activities can be seen here.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Mr Wrigley spoke to Year 7 students this week to talk about the need for us all to communicate with each other respectfully and thoughtfully. As the term draws to a close, we are picking up a few issues of students being unkind to one another on social media. Mr Wrigley spoke about the impact of comments on others and the importance of reflecting before ‘posting’. Please can you reiterate these points to your child and continue to monitor their social media usage.
Next week students will all watch our Inclusion and Equity (I&E) assembly, where students from our I&E Student Resource Group (SRG) update the KGV community on the impressive work which has been undertaken by staff and students throughout the year on our continuing I&E journey. This assembly will take place on Monday. Please speak to your child after this to hear about the advances we are making in ensuring all students can continue to confidently be their imperfect selves and feel a true sense of belonging at KGV School.
Please can you remind your child to rehydrate at lunch time, apply sunscreen and wear a hat if they are spending chunks of time outside. It is lovely to see students embracing this time, but they need to do so safely.
A reminder that we have our final timetable switch next week, with the original Period 5 swapping for Period 2. LIONEL will be updated over the weekend to reflect these changes.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 7 Team
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Year 8 and 9 tutor groups have this week been watching the work completed by our Year 9 students in their Community Project (CP). Year 9 students complete their MYP experience by committing to a CP of their choice and taking action to support their chosen cause. Year 8 and 9 tutor groups have been watching CP videos of students reflecting on their experiences. Hopefully this has given Year 8 students some ideas for their CP next year.

We are pleased to inform you that our catering provider Sodexo, has resumed a catering service for our students from 1 June and will continue till 30 June 2021, albeit in a limited capacity. Due to Covid restrictions, and the need to closely supervise eating, food is only served at lunchtime. Eating areas are designated and teachers assigned to ensure social distancing and hygiene measures are closely followed. Please note all hot meals will be served prepacked in disposable packaging as required by the guidelines.
Sodexo will be providing beverages and lunch at three of their outlets. All transactions will be with Octopus payment - Please ensure your child has enough value added to their card before coming to school.
The service will be as follows: Open Monday- Friday :
The Main canteen will remain closed until Government restrictions are lifted. A menu for next week is attached for your reference.
Our PTSA shop has been serving our parents and students with uniform and stationery supplies since the conception of the PTSA. We thank our parents and students for their ongoing support. However, things are changing in terms of our operations.
Due to EDB requirements, all PTSA across ESF schools will be moving the selling of school uniforms to an ESF central procurement process, a centralised online platform where parents can purchase uniforms. Presently we are working on a transition to the new online shop, where parents deal directly with the supplier and the PTSA no longer sells uniforms. The new platform will be in service from 19 July 2021 onwards.
The PTSA shop at KGV will be in service till 30 June 2021, Monday to Friday, 8am-3:45pm. We encourage our parents to seek to purchase uniform items before then, and to take advantage of the personalised shop experience, direct pickup and multiple payment options. Once our stocks run out, parents will need to purchase the equivalent version of our uniform, from the new website and supplier. Please note, we have kept the uniform range as close to the present one as possible. Please be reassured that students can continue to wear all uniform items (current and new version) into the future.
Y11 students - all students are expected to wear senior uniform in Y12 and Y13. All Y11 students are requested to purchase their senior uniform from the PTSA shop before 30 June.
Exchanges - all exchanges must be done before 30 June 2021, provided sizes are available.
Thank you for your continued support, and we encourage you to visit us before 30 June and take advantage of our personalised shop experience.
A big round of applause to the school's Chinese Debate Team for winning the Championship at the ESF Chinese Debate Competition 2021!
The exciting grand final was held on 5 June, the first time it was run on Zoom. The debate topic was “大數據時代個人信息可以/無法得到保護” (Personal information can/cannot be protected in the era of big data.) Judges included professors, lecturers and teachers from various independent education institutions. “The teams demonstrated extremely impressive critical-thinking skills and took highly sophisticated approaches when presenting their arguments,” the panel commented. “Each team also showed perseverance, commitment and teamwork. Every student should be extremely proud of their great achievement in this competition.”
