We are so nearly there….only 3 school days until the end of a challenging school year! The KGV community is very much in need of a break, a chance to recharge and refocus. I have been so proud of each and every one of our Year 7 students this year. They have done themselves, you as parents and our school community, proud!
Next week we will be sending out three communications to parents. You will receive;

The final parent newsletter of the year.
Please remember;
Our PTSA Uniform shop will no longer operate after Wednesday 30 June. All uniform purchases after that will be through an online site. Details to be sent over the holidays. Please call into school before 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday 30 June to make any final uniform purchases.

Year 9 Message
Year 10 students have been completing projects and assessments over the last few weeks. Please use the CCF to see the results. These assessment results will be taken into account by subject teachers as they confirm or adjust the Current Attainment Grade (CAG). This is your best indicator of how your child is performing in the subject. These are always visible in the 'overview' section and will be listed in the Term 3 summary that we'll publish next week. Just a reminder that next Wednesday is the final day of term and there is a 12:30 p.m. finish.
Year 11 activities officially finished today and we farewelled students for the summer break. I was out fishing with a group of 50 and there was a lovely atmosphere of friendship and comeraderie. Wednesday was the last day in school for many and we finished the year with a student-led assembly and a mini-olympics tournament on the field. Luckily the weather held and it was very enjoyable. I'd like to thank parents for encouraging your children to get involved and make the most of these opportunities and I want to thank the staff who have planned additional activities to give the students a good final experience in Year 11.
Exam results will be released online and via email on 12 August this year. Students should know how to access these, but can contact the exams office if they need help.
I hope you all have a great summer break and I look forward to seeing many of you back in August. We have quite a few students leaving us due to family relocations and choosing different courses, so good luck to you all for next year.
As we move towards the last few days of term, I would like to thank and commend our Year 12 students for their patience and resilience in being able to navigate through an extraordinary year.
Don't forget next Wednesday is our last day and school will finish at 12.30pm.
Our Year 12 students will be returning as Year 13 students, with the first school day for Year 13, Friday 20th August.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Message from the Charity Committee
India is fighting a desperate battle against a new coronavirus surge that’s sent COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations and deaths skyrocketing. The KGV Charity Committee has been working towards supporting aid in India for COVID. If you're looking to help with the ongoing Covid crisis in India, the committee has made a short list of Indian Charities.
The COVID-19 global pandemic has ravaged countries across the globe. India’s second-wave of COVID-19 has caused unprecedented devastation. 30 million cases have been reported so far, with the official death count reaching almost 400,000.
The Indian health system is extremely stressed, with the critical shortage of ICU beds, oxygen supply, and PPE equipment compounding the tragedy.
Members of the school community have reached out enquiring on how to best assist India during this crisis. The Charity Committee has formed a shortlist of four reputable charities which we strongly encourage members of the school community to donate towards:
An NGO working in India for over 70 years, focusing on alleviating poverty and fighting social injustice.
Provides PPE to medical workers.
Part of the International Red Cross Society
Has been distributing medical equipment (e.g. ventilators, oxygen concentrators) as well as giving vaccine doses.
It's goal is to ensure that lifesaving oxygen is effectively distributed across India to those who need it.
Has been supported by international organizations and businesses.
Founded by doctors, medical students, and like-minded people with a “vision-for-all”.
Currently working on numerous projects in different states across India, supporting the response to the Pandemic.

Our Remarkable Stories
Hong Kong Young Writers Award and the Youth Award of the Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize
KGV would like to congratulate Trinity (Year 12) who has won two awards recently , namely the Winner of Fiction Group 5 of the Hong Kong Young Writers Award and the Youth Award of the Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize and Rishi (Year 12) who has won the Non-Fiction Group 5 of the Hong Kong Young Writers Award.
Hong Kong Young Writers Award aim is to foster excellence in creativity by providing students with the opportunity to develop their expressive talents and expand their horizons. The awards encourage and recognise excellence in English writing and artwork among students, aged from 6-18, of various age groups, diverse backgrounds and different learning abilities. Since its inception in 2010, the competition has been a resounding success, with over 1,000 entries coming in from approximately 200 participating schools across Hong Kong, Macau and China in 2019.
The Hong Kong Human Rights Arts Prize (HKHRAP), established by Justice Centre Hong Kong in 2013, has played a pivotal role in discovering and encouraging Hong Kong artists to explore the state of human rights both at home and abroad. Justice Centre envisions Hong Kong as a fair and inclusive society where even the most marginalised enjoy fundamental rights and access to justice.
Congratulations to Trinity and Rishi winning these 2 prestigious awards.
Huge congratulations to Ernest who earlier this year participated in HKU Academy for the Talented and received the Scholarships.
‘I am very grateful to participate in the Young Medical and Healthcare Professional Summer Programme 2020 with HKU Academy Scholarship. Through various lectures on different medical subjects and workshops, I gained a more holistic view of medicine and research updates about the COVID-19 pandemic. The week was intense at times, but the course structure gave me a taste of what medical school is like at HKU, and the outcome was rewarding. The lessons not only allowed me to formulate and solve questions but also strengthened my passion and determination to get into medical school. Moreover, through the interaction and discussion with like-minded students, I brainstormed more ideas and thoughts for problem-based issues. Talking with different student ambassadors also gave me more advice and insight into medical school. What a memorable experience!'
This is a fantastic opportunity for Ernest (Year 12), and one that KGV School are very proud of!
