Dear Parents
I hope you are all well.
Last night I had the pleasure of attending the ‘Addams Family’ school musical. It was an outstanding performance, and thank you to all students and staff involved, and to Head of Drama Mr Baker, and Head of Music Mrs. Carlile for their leadership of the event. The musical in many ways represented some of the best examples of what learning and education is all about. As a learning opportunity, I think the musical illustrated that:
Positive relationships are the foundation of learning. High trust and authentic connections were on display last night, developed and tested at rehearsals.
Students learn really well from each other. The performers and crew depended on each other and kept each other accountable to exceptional high levels of performance
There is nothing like a public exhibition of learning, to motivate staff and students to exceptional levels of performance. This public display of student and teacher work, has a powerful and celebratory impact on motivation and quality
Rehearsal and feedback takes effort, but it is really the only way to achieve at high levels. What we saw last night was the product of copious amounts of reflection and practice.
In life, it is often about knowing your role, learning what that role takes, and knowing your place as part of the team. Every person last night knew their role, and how they were part of a bigger final product.
Passion is the key. Great things happen when people are excited and energised about what they are doing. The love of the performance, was evident in the actors, musicians, stage and support crew, and staff
Courage is needed to create a truly memorable experience. Some of our students will remember this event for the rest of their lives. They had the courage to push themselves, and to take some risks to create such a moment
Great teachers and staff go above and beyond. Our students are privileged to be given the opportunity to collaborate with some of the most talented and dedicated staff. Our staff love what they do because of the growth and learning they see in our students.
We hope to come back with our next musical post COVID 19, where we can invite the whole of our community to witness once again our student and staff talent and dedication. KGV is all about community, and it was great to feel this again last night in our school.
Finally, we are looking to relaunch our highly successful KGV Alliance events and programme. The KGV Alliance is a community networking event that enables students to ‘pitch’ innovative ideas to create positive change. The next KGV Alliance Event is planned for Thursday, 16 December from 6.30 pm. Please look out for further information and an official invitation to be sent out on Tuesday next week.
Have a great weekend.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we saw another piece of normality return to KGV School, as our talented students and teachers treated us to 3 wonderful performances of The Addams Family. Congratulations to all involved! A special shout out to one of our talented Year 7s, Vena Yeung who played the flute beautifully in the Show Band. Well done Vena!
Students and teachers also demonstrated their support of our School Charities through a series of fundraising activities. From Tuesday to Friday this week, students raised money for Hong Kong Wildlife Health Foundation, Plastic Free Seas, Orbis (tackling Global Blindness) and Habitat for Humanity.
Next week, we will be running a series of assemblies to remind students of the School’s expectations both in terms of uniform and our collective behaviours. We will be building on the work our tutors have done to support students in developing strategies to look after their own property as well as how to be the best version of themselves around the KGV campus.
We will also be working with a group of students and PE teachers to look at how we can improve the student experience in our changing rooms. We look forward to presenting these results to you in the next couple of weeks.
December 8th is the Year 7 - 9 Sports Day, which will take place at KGV School. Year 7 students will eat their lunch during Period 4 and then participate in Sports Day during lunch and Period 5. Students can wear their PE kit all day on December 8th, to show support for their House. Students should remember to bring a hat, sunscreen and water bottle, as all students will be involved in the Sports Day events.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Year 7 Team.

We are preparing a day with Year 11 on December 7th where we will focus on skills around organisation, revision technique, wellbeing and exam technique to help them be as prepared as possible for their mock exams which start on January 17th and their final exams which start in May.
The mock examination timetable is available here
We have a Year 11 parents evening on Monday 13 December from 2:30pm to 6:30pm where you can speak directly to your child's subject teachers.
Meetings will be 10 minute slots, online through Google Meet. The links for each meeting will be shown once you have successfully booked a meeting slot.
The system will open for bookings on Friday 3 December at 6pm. The system will close on Sunday 12 December at 6pm to allow teachers time to prepare for these meetings the next day. We highly recommend that your child joins you for these meetings.
In the App, tap the "Lionel 2 VLE" button and scroll down to the appointments icon.
If you don't see a teacher listed for a particular timeslot, it is because they are already booked for that time.
It is not possible for every parent to see every teacher on this one evening. So, while this is the only formal opportunity we set aside where all Year 11 teachers are available, please know that teachers will discuss issues or answer questions about your child at any time via email or phone. Email links for all teachers are available in the App.
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate our new KGV Head Prefects, Eric Wang and Molly Worthington, who were appointed this week.
We wish them every success in their respective roles.
We would also like to thank our current Head Prefects, Zareen Tasnim and Brandon Choy, for all their dedication and leadership they have shown over the past 12 months.
Congratulations also to our Year 12 students who have performed superbly in our fabulous school musical, The Addams Family, this week.

Dear Parents & Students,
It’s been an incredibly busy and fun packed term 1 for CAS Activities which makes for a welcome change after the past year. Under our activities term blocking format, most Term 1 activities end Friday 3 December. A few sports, performing arts and a select few other activities will continue, due to the pressures of their season, performance dates and external factors.
I would like to remind you of the procedure for activity sign up to create a fair and equitable sign up process during the transition between term 1 and term 2.
Important Dates:
Friday 3 December - Term 1 program ends
Monday 6 December - Sign up for term 2 opens
Friday 31 December - Sign up for term 2 closes
During this time students can add and remove themselves from activities
Excluding any paid programs students have committed to for the year
Monday 3 January - random allocation takes place and students notified
Monday 10 January - Term 2 CAS Program starts
Students can still select new opportunities on offer by viewing the activity list on the Lionel summary page.
Please remember: Registration is NOT on a first-come-first-served basis. All students registered will be placed on the waiting list until the end of the registration period. If the number of enrolment exceeds the maximum number of participants, names will be drawn randomly by Lionel to only allocate those that have been pre-approved by parents to join the activity.
For external paid activities:
Paid activities joined at the beginning of the year have a full year commitment, and students will not be eligible for a refund if they decide to leave the program.
For new term 2 paid activities, please check the following link for details: https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/external-providers-programs
While we are looking to continue to run as close as possible to a normal CAS Activities program, we are also looking ahead and requesting your understanding of the possibility that changes and adaptation may still be necessary because of the current situation. We will have to abide by the rules and guided directives from EDB and ESF, which may involve changes such as rescheduling, cancellation, a shortened program and so on at short notice. We will do our best to communicate any changes as clearly and as soon as possible through the KGV bulletin, ESF App, website or email.
The KGV CAS Activities website is especially designed and dedicated to all things relating to the activities program (https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/). Browse through the site, have a look at the brochures specifically designed for each year group, and then follow the instructions on how to sign up!
For more information about signing up, withdrawal, allocation and parental approval click here.
Finally, I would like to thank parents for your support with allowing students to take part in the CAS program. I would also welcome any feedback or suggestions you have to both improve the CAS Program by identifying particular activities that you would like to see offered at KGV.

CAS, Service Learning and Activities Coordinator
