Dear Parents and Carers
Today, we capped off a great term of learning with an assembly on the pitch. To allow for social distancing, we held two assemblies with a festive and Christmas theme, to farewell the term and wish all happy holidays. It was wonderful to see our talented musicians and performers entertain the crowd.
On behalf of our KGV learning community, I would like to wish all our students, parents and community partners a wonderful Winter vacation, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I do hope that all our families get to spend some quality time together over the school break.
Being back at school face to face brings a real sense of optimism, positivity and enjoyment that comes when our students and staff can connect again, and partake in relevant and meaningful learning experiences.
Personally, I always feel a sense of pride to be the Principal of KGV, and to be part of this wonderful community. Happy and safe holidays, and I look forward to seeing everyone back on Monday 3 January.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw
Principal KGV School

Mock exams are scheduled for 17 January and run for two weeks. Students can access the exam timetable here. Year 11 students will have study leave on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th of January. Their teachers will still be available at the regular times in their classrooms, however, students have the choice to study from home if they wish.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The holidays are finally here! The students have shown amazing resilience and enthusiasm right up to the final day today. Now it is time for a rest, recharge and some time with family and friends.
The Year 7 - 9 Team want to thank you all for your support across the term as we have worked together to make sure your child had the best possible experience at KGV School.
A date for your diaries for next term is 13 January 2022. We will be organising a parent session to talk through MYP assessment and to explain the report you will receive just before Chinese New Year. We will send a link out to this session and hope as many of you as possible can join online at 5pm. We will also be asking for interested parents to join our parent group who will look to review our reporting and communication systems.
Another push for you to complete the vaccination records if you haven’t done so already. As we continue to look to take advantage of more social opportunities around KGV school, please can you update us as soon as your child has their first vaccination. The form is very simple and requires you to update a photograph of the vaccination certificate.
We will see you all again on 3 January for the start of Term 2. Please make a note that this is Week 2.
Wishing all our families a very Merry Christmas and Season's Greetings. Let’s hope 2022 brings us all more certainty, hope and normality.
The Year 7 - 9 Team

They should inform their relevant HE Counsellor immediately if they notice any missing supporting documents.

After what has been an incredibly busy and fun packed term 1 for CAS Activities, it’s great to see the amount of interest in the CAS program for term 2. There are still a number of CAS activities with space for term 2 so make sure the students sign up. Allocation is happening early in the first week back after Xmas so please see some notes about what happens next:
For activities that require an additional fee, you will be notified of what that fee is and how to pay the provider.
Remember to check the new KGV CAS Activities website especially designed and dedicated to all things relating to the activities program (https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/).
For more information about signing up, withdrawal, allocation and parental approval click here.
Finally, I would like to thank parents for your support with allowing students to take part in the CAS program. I would also welcome any feedback or suggestions you have to both improve the CAS Program by identifying particular activities that you would like to see offered at KGV.
Have a very Merry Christmas

As parents, we want only the best for our kids.
The time of adolescence can be especially confusing as we see our children figure out who they are, and navigate the challenges of their environment. Having been through the process with experience and maturity, it may be tempting for us to hold a firm hand and direct them to do what needs to be done for them to have a better future.
But adolescence is also a time where children seek to establish independence, and their relationship with their parents during this time carry an important part in forming their self-concept. In our bid to help them become better, we often forget that the way we communicate with them matters—whether we stop to consider their feelings and needs before we correct them, or whether we are shaming them instead empowering them. Relationships are built on conversation, and positive conversations can go a long way in making our child stay engaged with us, to willingly cooperate, and to be genuinely considerate of others.
Learn how you can approach conversations with your tweens and teens with less stress and more success in this 2 session workshop by Lim Kim Pong, CEO and Founder of StrengthsAsia. You'll get to understand
1. How you can change your talk from habitual and unconscious to purposeful, persuasive and engaging
2. Tips on how to connect with your child using positive communication
3. The role of empathic listening in our conversation
