Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for helping our students comply with the second round of the Compulsory Testing Notice (CTN), which was scheduled for today. I will provide you with another update late tomorrow, regarding any feedback regarding the tests.
Hopefully our students had a chance to complete the work that was scheduled by our teachers today. The link to our KGV Chinese New Year assembly was also posted. The video is a great celebration of Chinese culture and student talent.
As a result of recent EDB and ESF announcements, we are planning for the following arrangements after the CNY break:
Year 7, 8, 9,10 and 12 will continue with online learning. Teachers will be online daily delivering each lesson, and we will follow the lesson timings we are running now
Year 11 will continue with mock exams from Tuesday 8 February to Friday 11 February in the first week back, and then continue with face to face classes for the following week. Teachers will be online on Monday 7th to offer tutorial and study support to students in regular lesson times.
Year 13 will have online classes on Monday 7 February, and then start face to face classes up until and including Friday 18 February, at this stage. Students will be leaving the school site at 1.25 each day, before they eat lunch.
In the context of unfolding COVID - 19 developments across Hong Kong, we are reviewing our arrangements at school for when our Year 11 and 13 students return. The safety of our students and staff is our priority. We will be communicating directly with our students to ensure that they fully understand the expectations when they return to school.
Thank you again for your support as we partner together to enable all our students to be their own remarkable. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Tiger.
Kung Hei Fat Choy.
Kind Regards,
Mark Blackshaw
Principal, KGV School
After the interesting week we've had, I'm sure you and your family are ready for a break. Please stay safe and get some rest over the next week.
Following the break, classes will continue to be online until at least 21 February. Also after the break we have the Year 10 Learning review on 7 March where you can speak to all of your child's teachers. The booking system will open in late February.
It's a shame that the Year 11 mock exam process was interrupted this week. We have rescheduled them to resume on Tuesday February 8th so that students can have this experience, receive important feedback and get back into classes to finish the syllabus for each subject. The mock experience and grades will also inform option choices which need to be confirmed following the break.
The first Monday after the break is a study day for Year 11 students. Their teachers will be available online at their regular timetabled class times. I encourage students to join them with any questions that have arisen during their revision.
Please encourage your child to get some rest over the break so they are ready for what will be an intense 3 months of work leading up to and including their final exams.
If your child has concerns about their academic progress, option choices or is feeling anxious, please encourage them to reach out to their tutor or Head of Year.
The revised mock exam schedule (being updated as I write this) is available here.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Thank you all for your support over the past week, both for the school and with each other as we have responded to the CHP requirements and transitioned back to online learning. We have been hearing some great feedback from teachers about the way Year 7 students have adapted to online learning and the determination and motivation they have been displaying. Please pass on how proud we have been of Year 7 students this week.
Thank you to those parents who have signed up already for the Year 7 Learning Review. Appointments can be made via the ESF App and the period for sign up will be until just after the Lunar New Year break.
We should have been releasing our MYP Semester One reports today, but with the disruption this week, you will be given access to all this information on Wednesday 9 February. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
A reminder that after the break, Year 7 students will continue their lessons online. Lessons will begin at 8.15 am on Monday 7 February and students will follow our normal Tuesday to Friday timetable. Monday Period 5 will be independent learning, as teachers use this slot for their normal collaboration period.
We will also be trialling a new approach to our formative assessment and feedback. You will not receive formative feedback through the system in Semester 2, but will hear this feedback from your child, who will be supported in recording and responding to feedback from the teacher. We have a group of Year 7 parents meeting Mr Turner on Friday 11 and/ or Monday 14 February to collaborate on a new reporting system for parents.
Wishing you and your families a great deal more health, happiness and good fortune in the coming Year of the Tiger. Enjoy your break and we look forward to seeing Year 7s online on Monday 7th February.
The Year 7 Team
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Thank you all for your support over the past week, both for the school and with each other as we have responded to the CHP requirements and transitioned back to online learning. We have been hearing some great feedback from teachers about the way Year 8 students have adapted to online learning and the determination and motivation they have been displaying. Please pass on how proud we have been of Year 8 students this week.
We should have been releasing our MYP Semester One reports today, but with the disruption this week, you will be given access to all this information on Wednesday 9 February. Thank you for your patience and understanding. These reports can then be discussed with teachers in the upcoming Year 8 Learning Review which will take place on Monday 28 February. We will send out details of the sign-up timeline after the Lunar New Year break.

The Year 8 Team
I would like to commend our Year 13 students for their patience and understanding over what has been an extremely challenging week.
As Mr Blackshaw has stated, Year 13 will have online classes on Monday 7 February, and then start face to face classes up until and including Friday 18 February, at this stage. Students will be leaving the school site at 1.25pm each day, before they eat lunch.
In the context of unfolding COVID-19 developments across Hong Kong, we are reviewing our arrangements at school for our Year 11 and 13 students to ensure that we can do all we can to minimise risks. We will be communicating directly with our students to ensure they fully understand the expectations when they return to school.
Year 13 Learning Review
The Year 13 Learning Review is scheduled for Wednesday 16 February from 3:45pm to 7:45pm.
Meetings will be 10 minute slots, online through Google Meet. The links for each meeting will be shown once you have successfully booked a meeting slot.
The system will open for bookings today (Friday 28 January) at 6pm. The system will close on Tuesday 15 February at 6pm to allow teachers time to prepare for these meetings the next day. We highly recommend that your child joins you for these meetings.
Please make your bookings. In the App, tap the "Lionel 2 VLE" button and scroll down to the appointments icon.
If you don't see a teacher listed for a particular timeslot, it is because they are already booked for that time.
It is not possible for every parent to see every teacher on this one evening. So, while this is the only formal opportunity we set aside where all Year 13 teachers are available, please know that teachers will discuss issues or answer questions about your child at any time via email or phone. Email links for all teachers are available in the App.
I wish everyone a peaceful and restful Lunar New Year holiday.
Kung Hei Fat Choy.

Careers & Guidance
Y13 Higher Education applications
Communication between students & their H.E. Counsellors are key. This is especially so when application deadlines for many institutions are fast-approaching. Submitting an application without informing the H.E. Counsellor in advance may result in missed relevant documents to support applications. Students are reminded that they MUST inform their H.E. Counsellors of applications they are making, to ensure that supporting documents are sent in time.
Some UK & USA universities are beginning to send out offers and conditions. Our best wishes to our Y13 students with their offers!
Y12 1-1 H.E. meeting
The H.E. Team will be meeting Y12 students individually starting 9 Feb to discuss students post-KGV plans and intentions. Emails with appointment details (during students’ non-contacts) were sent out to the students. Students need to complete a questionnaire at least 48 hours before their meeting to facilitate a meaningful and constructive conversation with their H.E. Counsellors. As we will be continuing remote learning we will conduct the 1-1 meetings online, the google links will be sent to the students. Parents are reminded that students will be individually online with their own H.E. Counsellor during these one-to-one conversations, please reach out to the Careers Team (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) if this is of concern.
Y12 Parent Online Information Session, 8 February 2022, 18:00
We would like to invite our Y12 parents to an online information session on 8 February. Please register your interest here. The link to the online info session will be emailed to the registered parents on 8 February in the morning.
