Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you again for your support this week. We appreciate that the rapidly unfolding COVID -19 situation in Hong Kong, may be causing some worry for our students and within our community. We will continue to do all we can to maximise the safety of staff and students, and to ensure the continuity of learning. I know our tutors are checking in with our students every day. Please let us know if we can do anything else to support ‘your child, our student’, in the weeks ahead.
We made the decision early this week to go ahead with Year 11 Mock exams, but in an online format. Thank you to our staff for their agility in adjusting the exams to enable this to occur. Thank you to all our Year 11 students for having a positive mindset regarding this change, and to our parents in supporting the students at home to complete the online exams. Essentially, we hope the exams will provide detailed feedback to students with enough time to address issues before their final exams. It also provides our teachers with feedback on the skills or areas of knowledge they may need to address and re-teach, during their remaining class time.
Thank you also for the parents who engaged in the Year 7 learning reviews last evening. The online format seems to still be working well, with parents being able to drop in and out of meetings whilst being in the comfort of their own home or office. We had some great comments on our WhatsApp groups, on how well the evening went, and the value of the conversations.
At this stage, the current online learning phase is scheduled until the 21 of February. It seems likely however, that we may be in this online mode for the immediate future. I will provide any updates as they become available.
Stay safe and enjoy the weekend.

Year 13 Learning Review
The Year 13 Mock Exam reports will be available to view from 4pm on Monday 14 February.
The Year 13 Learning Review is scheduled for next Wednesday 16 February from 3:45pm to 7:45pm.
Meetings will be 10 minute slots, online through Google Meet. The links for each meeting will be shown once you have successfully booked a meeting slot.
The system is open for bookings and will close on Tuesday 15 February at 6pm to allow teachers time to prepare for these meetings the next day. We highly recommend that your child joins you for these meetings.
Please make your bookings. In the App, tap the "Lionel 2 VLE" button and scroll down to the appointments icon.
If you don't see a teacher listed for a particular timeslot, it is because they are already booked for that time.
It is not possible for every parent to see every teacher on this one evening. So, while this is the only formal opportunity we set aside where all Year 13 teachers are available, please know that teachers will discuss issues or answer questions about your child at any time via email or phone. Email links for all teachers are available in the App.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Our Year 12 students have been coping admirably with our return to online learning this week.
Should any student have any query or concern, please do not hesitate in contacting any of our Year 12 team.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Year 10 students managed the switch to online learning with style this week and the students I have spoken to are managing their time well and staying organised.
Please help your child to check their online learning each evening for the following day and help them to remove distractions from their workspace. Please encourage them to get time away from the screen between lessons.
There will be assessments for some subjects coming up as we try to keep everything as normal as possible. Encourage your child to prepare for these and do their best as the feedback they gain will be invaluable.
Year 11 students have been amazing this week, coping with an unprecedented shift to online mock examinations. I have dropped into most of the mock exams that have run this week and seen students taking them seriously and working hard.
They will receive vital feedback from their teachers in the days ahead.
Year 11 students are back into lessons as in their timetable from Tuesday morning. These will be online lessons.
We had scheduled the mock exam report to come out at the end of next week, but now that the mocks themselves have been delayed by over a week, we're aiming for the end of the following week.
Option choices for Year 12 will open for Year 11 at the end of next week. Students have already made indicated selections, but the choices this time will be used to set up their timetables and assign them to classes. We will run an assembly on Wednesday to brief students about the process and choices available to them.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Thank you all for your support at yesterday’s Learning Review. Thank you for engaging in the conversations and for all the positive feedback. Our staff have also spoken about how much they enjoyed meeting you all. If you have any further feedback, please send me an email.
Thank you too to those parents who were able to join us this morning, as Mr Turner led us through a Zoom session on MYP reports. We are committed to listening to you and providing you with the information you need on your child and their learning. We look forward to meeting with more of you on Monday morning. If you would like to join this session, and haven’t yet signed up, please email rowan.turner@kgv.edu.hk.
A reminder that this Semester is our Year 7 trial for reporting. This means you will not be receiving App messages containing formative feedback on your child. Instead, your child will be recording their own feedback and, with the support of their teachers, setting learning goals. As parents you have this Semester Two summative assessment overview, to help you guide your child through their assessment.
Thank you to our Year 7 Student Transition Leaders. These students did an amazing job earlier in the week as we virtually welcomed our Year 6 students to KGV. What an amazing group of young leaders we have in Year 7.
Thank you for supporting your child through online learning. Let me know if you have any feedback as to how we can improve the experience at home.
Have a good weekend and keep safe.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you were able to access your child’s MYP Semester One report. We are currently analysing the grades awarded to Year 9 students and using this data in our conversations around Year 9 options. Thank you for meeting yesterday’s deadline with option choices, we will now follow up with students and parents individually.
On Tuesday the Year 9s completed a full morning of Community Project work. Mr Beard and the team spoke very highly of Year 9 students and their enthusiasm and maturity around this work. To support your child during the development of their Community Project, it would be great if you could occasionally spend a couple of minutes asking them what is going well, any difficulties they have and how they might overcome these challenges asking your child to show you their Process Journal
Thank you for supporting your child through online learning. Let me know if you have any feedback as to how we can improve the experience at home.
Have a good weekend and keep safe.

Y13 Higher Education applications
Communication between students & their H.E. Counsellors are key. This is especially so when application deadlines for many institutions are fast-approaching. Submitting an application without informing the H.E. Counsellor in advance may result in missed relevant documents to support applications. Students are reminded that they MUST inform their H.E. Counsellors of applications they are making, to ensure that supporting documents are sent in time.
Some UK & USA universities are beginning to send out offers and conditions. Our best wishes to our Y13 students with their offers!
Y12 1-1 H.E. meeting
Individual meetings between students and their respective HE Counsellors started on 9 Feb. The meeting is an opportunity for students to discuss their post-KGV plans and intentions. Emails with appointment details and meeting link were sent out to the students. Students need to complete a questionnaire at least 48 hours before their meeting to facilitate a meaningful and constructive conversation with their H.E. Counsellors. Parents are reminded that students will be individually online with their own H.E. Counsellor during these one-to-one conversations, please reach out to the Careers Team (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) if this is of concern.
Y12 Parent Online Information Session (8 Feb)
Thank you to all the Y12 parents who joined us at the online information session on 8 February. Recording of the session has been shared to all Y12 parents.
School reference (non-higher education purposes)
The Careers Office coordinates all KGV student references including exit & summer schools. All requests should be directed to careers.office@kgv.edu.hk. Please allow at least 4-6 work weeks for teachers to work on school references. School reference for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
