Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was another busy week and great to see our students settle into our first week of full-day schooling. Thank you for supporting us by ensuring our students brought lunch to school each day, and our Year 7 and 8 students also had a handheld snack for Tutor time.
Our canteen provider Sodexo will begin to reopen our food outlets this week. The Bowl, Pizza Hut, and Leo’s Cafe will begin serving a limited supply of food at lunch break only. All students should still bring some food from home, to ensure that they have enough to eat across the day.
A reminder that our students will finish at 2.05 pm this Tuesday as we rotate our times, due to the series of Monday public holidays. Students will have their normal 5 lessons on Tuesday as shown on their Lionel timetable. The buses have been informed of the 2.05 finish this Tuesday.
A shout out to our Year 11 and Year 13 students who have commenced their (I)GCSE and IB Diploma exams this week. It has been a challenging couple of years in the lead-up to the exams, and we have confidence that our students have worked hard and are well prepared. A reminder that our teachers are online during the normal timetabled lesson times to provide tutorial support for Year 11 and 13 students, right up until the day of the exam, for each subject. We encourage students to take advantage of this support if they need any assistance in preparing for the exams.
Thank you to all parents for ensuring all our students complete a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) each morning before they come to school. We are needing to chase up fewer students each day, due to this support. Our students will receive another three RAT kit packs (15 tests) during Tutor time next Thursday and Friday.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw
Principal,
KGV School
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we have mostly been focusing on students getting back into full-day routines. Five lessons and a big campus mean a lot of self-organization. We are trying to work with students to encourage them to use their lockers so they do not have to carry large bags around the campus. Please talk to your child about their locker use. We would also like to discourage students from using wheelie bags, as in busy corridors these can be hazards.
Students will be making their option choices next week, indicating which of the Creative Arts options they would like to continue studying in Year 8. Students currently study Art, Drama, Media and Music. They must decide by Friday, 6 May which of these four subjects they would like to drop and submit their choices in LIONEL. Tutors will be working with them next week and helping them to complete the relevant section on LIONEL.
Monday is a public holiday, so school will resume on Tuesday, 3 May. Students will finish at 2.05 pm to enable staff to do their weekly collaboration.
Have a lovely long weekend.
The Year 7 Team
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we have mostly been focusing on students getting back into full-day routines. Five lessons and a big campus mean a lot of self-organisation. We are trying to work with students to encourage them to use their lockers so they do not have to carry large bags around the campus. Please talk to your child about their locker use. We would also like to discourage students from using wheelie bags, as in busy corridors these can be hazards.
Students also had an excellent day on Tuesday as they continued with their Community Project work. During this day, students put the final touches on their plan of ACTION. Students should be planning to take action at some point during May so when we enter the final stages of the project in June, they are in a position to reflect on their actions. If students are planning to run/hold an event at school during the final week of May, they must enter their proposal for approval. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing students celebrate the action they are taking by posting on the KGV Community Project Padlet.
Also on Tuesday they attended an assembly to outline the process for Science and Maths decisions for Year 10. Teachers for each subject will make recommendations as to the appropriate pathway for each student. This will then be shared with each student to discuss at home. Where there is a choice, for example, the teacher says the student can take Double or Triple Science, the preference can be indicated on the form. If there is no choice but you have questions as to why a specific pathway has been recommended we will arrange for further discussions. If you have any questions about this process please e-mail Mr. Tranter at ashley.tranter@kgv.edu.hk.
Monday is a public holiday, so school will resume on Tuesday, 3 May. Students will finish at 2.05 pm to enable staff to do their weekly collaboration.

The Year 9 Team
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week we have mostly been focusing on students getting back into full-day routines. Five lessons and a big campus mean a lot of self-organisation. We are trying to work with students to encourage them to use their lockers so they do not have to carry large bags around the campus. Please talk to your child about their locker use. We would also like to discourage students from using wheelie bags, as in busy corridors these can be hazards.
Students will be making their option choices next week, indicating their decisions for the courses they would like to study in Year 9. Students will need to make two main decisions. Firstly, they will make their language choices. These were provisionally made earlier in the year, but we will now be requiring students to confirm their choices. Secondly, students should make a decision around which of the Creative Arts subjects they will drop. Students in Year 9 study one visual art (Media or Art) and one creative art (Music or Drama). They must decide by Friday, 6 May which of these four subjects they would like to drop and submit their choices in LIONEL. Tutors will be working with them next week and helping them to complete the relevant section on LIONEL. Students will be able to show you their option choices by clicking on their options tile in LIONEL.
Monday is a public holiday, so school will resume on Tuesday, 3 May. Students will finish at 2.05 pm to enable staff to do their weekly collaboration.
Have a lovely long weekend.
The Year 8 Team
Over the next few weeks tutors having 1:1 conversations with year 10 students about their term 2 assessment data and general progress to ensure they are on track now that they are two fifths of the way through the Y10 and 11 program.
Please help your child to present to school in the correct uniform. Just a reminder that PE and drama kit is only to be worn on days when your child has one of those subjects.
Next Monday is a public holiday and the timetable for next Tuesday will follow Monday timings, finishing at 2:05 pm with buses leaving shortly after.
There will be a number of assessments coming up this term and students can see these mapped out in the assessment calendar. Please discuss this with your child to ensure they are organised and prepared.
Our Year 13 BTEC students have been continuing to finish off important pieces of work as they near completion of their Diploma.
The IB examinations started on Thursday and our students have responded admirably, displaying incredible levels of resilience and patience with the RAT requirements.
A note that school will finish at 2.05 pm this Tuesday as we rotate our times, due to the series of Monday public holidays. The buses have been informed of the 2.05 finish this Tuesday.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.
Year 11 students are on study leave now. Their teachers are available online during every timetabled period and they can study in the LRC at school if they wish.
Coming up next week we have exams for Geography and English.
Key resources are the exam timetable and the exam rules and regulations. These have been shared with students. Note that the exam timetable is a live document and should be refreshed before you view it.
Students will not be allowed on-site without first completing a RAT. If we can't see a negative RAT recorded in the ESF App, students will not be allowed on site. Please ensure this is done before they leave home. It is an important step to keep our students as safe as possible.
If your child is ill on the day of an exam, please contact the exams office here: exam@kgv.edu.hk
We will work with you to ensure your child is supported.
Our Student Learning Prefects will soon be sending out a questionnaire to all of our Year 12 students, seeking feedback on their learning experience at KGV. The survey will focus on our Assessment Calendar and how we can continue to improve this aspect of our students’ experience.
A reminder that our students will finish at 2.05 pm this Tuesday as we rotate our times, due to the series of Monday public holidays. IB Students will have their first Core Day, focusing on TOK and CAS. BTEC lessons will continue in line with Monday timings. The buses have been informed of the 2.05 finish this Tuesday.
Wishing you a great weekend.

CAS Activities
We are planning to provide a modified CAS Activity program for Term 3. Following EDB guidelines, only students that have received their second dose of the vaccination will be eligible to sign up for these activities. We hope to run a combination of before school, lunchtime and after school CAS activities led by students, teachers, and outside providers.
The timeline for this term will be as follows:
If you are unsure whether your vaccination records are up to date, please email: betty.ko@kgv.edu.hk
If you know you need to update your vaccination records: Please use this form to submit the vaccination certificate
Inter-House
We plan also to run a number of low intensity Inter-house competitions (e.g. Volleyball, Rounders, Chess Club) at lunchtime, that would allow all students to participate, with masks on. Due to low intensity, and the fact they are held at lunchtime, we are not placing them in an extra-curricular category.
Thank you

CAS, Service Learning and Activities Coordinator

"While we waste our time hesitating and postponing, life is slipping away". - Seneca
Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing tasks. Does your teen:

If teens can overcome this, they will be able to accomplish more and in doing so, better utilise the potential that life has to offer.
Join us for a talk by Jack Chappell, KGV PSHE lead, who will deliver this workshop on procrastination; discussing what it is, how it affects young people, and strategies to support teens beat it for improved productivity and wellbeing.
There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the talk.
Now for your first test: Don't procrastinate and please sign up now.

Y13 Higher Education applications
Communication between students & their H.E. Counsellors is key. This is especially so when application deadlines for many institutions are fast approaching. Submitting an application without informing the H.E. Counsellor in advance may result in missed relevant documents to support applications. Students are reminded that they MUST inform their H.E. Counsellors of applications they are making, to ensure that supporting documents are sent in time.
Our best wishes to our IB students for their exams and BTEC students for completing of their coursework.
Y13 Parents Information Evening, 18:00 on 12 May. Mark your calendar. In this session, we will take parents through on supporting our Y13s with their offers and applications post-exams.
