Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We had another positive week at school with students settling into the routine again of full-day schooling. It was great to see Sodexo reopen our food outlets this week. The Pizza seemed to be particularly popular with our students! It was another sign that things are returning a little more to normal.
Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) sign-ups for Term 3 occurred this week. We are excited to offer over 40 activities before, during, and after school that ranges from sports, chess, knitting, gardening, French, Cantonese, drama, stock market games, music DJ, reading, and mathematics, just to name a few. Thank you to the CAS team, teachers and support staff involved in running the activities. Students can still sign up for activities with vacancies, they just need to go to Lionel under the activities tab. A reminder that to participate in the CAS activities, EDB rules state that students need to have received two doses of a COVID 19 vaccine for at least two weeks. However, there will also be a range of low intensity Inter-House activities offered at lunchtime starting next week. All students can participate in these activities, whether vaccinated or not.
With the recent relaxation of social distancing and other measures announced this week, we are working with ESF and EDB to see what these mean for further CAS activities, PE lessons and the use of our facilities such as our Swimming Pool. We will provide details of any changes next week.
Next week is Mental Health Awareness Week around the world, with a focus for 2022 on ‘loneliness’. The theme is aimed at raising awareness of the impact of loneliness on our mental wellbeing, especially in the recent COVID 19 pandemic. Our school vision acknowledges this need for connection and belonging when we state that “we create a ‘school for one; a place where each student feels that the school was created just for them. Through a lived experience, we all feel a deep sense of belonging, identity, and purpose.” Our team of student leaders for wellbeing has worked with staff to prepare resources for students to engage with throughout the week. On Friday we are hosting a dress casual day when students can ‘wear something green’ to support awareness of mental health, and raise money for our school charities.
A further shout out to our Year 11 and Year 13 students who are moving into the second week of their (I)GCSE and IB Diploma exams. A reminder that our teachers are online during the normal timetabled lesson times to provide tutorial support for Year 11 and 13 students, right up until the day of the exam, for each subject. We encourage students to take advantage of this support if they need any assistance in preparing for the exams.
A reminder that our students will finish at 2.05 pm this Tuesday as we rotate our times, due to the series of Monday public holidays. Students will have their normal 5 lessons on Tuesday as shown on their Lionel timetable. The buses have been informed of the 2.05 finish this Tuesday.
Thank you for your ongoing support. Again, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards
Principal,
KGV School

Next week is Mental Health Awareness week and this will be a focus around the school and during tutor time. Themes within the week will be talking about loneliness and being alone. Another focus with Year 10 at present are discussions around sleep and how important this is in the learning process.
Tutors are meeting with Year 10 students for 1:1 conversations to help them assess their progress and set appropriate targets.
Students should be aware of the Year 10 assessment calendar. As the academic year draws to a close there will be a number of assessments for them.
I hope you enjoy the long weekend.
Exams continue for Year 11 students. Next week we have:
Please help your child to be organised and to be in uniform, having completed a RAT before leaving home.
Key resources are the exam timetable and the exam rules and regulations. These have been shared with students. Note that the exam timetable is a live document and should be refreshed before you view it.
Students will not be allowed on-site without first completing a RAT. If we can't see a negative RAT recorded in the ESF App, students will not be allowed on site. Please ensure this is done before they leave home. It is an important step to keep our students as safe as possible.
If your child is ill on the day of an exam, please contact the exams office here: exam@kgv.edu.hk
We will work with you to ensure your child is supported.

Y13 Higher Education applications
Communication between students & their H.E. Counsellors is key. This is especially so when application deadlines for many institutions are fast approaching. Submitting an application without informing the H.E. Counsellor in advance may result in missed relevant documents to support applications. Students are reminded that they MUST inform their H.E. Counsellors of applications they are making, to ensure that supporting documents are sent in time.
Our best wishes to our IB students for their exams and BTEC students for completing of their coursework.
