Principal's message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was a shame that the Red Rain event meant that the EDB suspended classes for the whole day, and our students could not come into school today. However, it seems that the majority of classes were held online, with the teachers and students interacting and getting on with scheduled lessons.
Thank you for supporting our students to be online today, and to our teachers for making the switch to online teaching, at short notice.
I would also like to shout out to our Year 11 and Year 13 students who still managed to come into school today to complete (I)GCSE and IB Diploma exams. We hope the Red rain event was not too distracting this morning.
It has been great to see all the extra-curricular (CAS) activities up and running over the past weeks. We are opening up our swimming pool next week, and look forward to starting our before-school swimming club activity. A range of lunchtime Inter-House activities, which are available to all students, have also started this week.
I hope that you have a great weekend and we look forward to seeing our students back on Monday.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw
Principal,
KGV School
Exams continue for Year 11 students. Next week is a big week of exams. We have:
Please help your child to be organised and to arrive at school on time, in uniform, having completed a RAT before leaving home.
Key resources are the exam timetable and the exam rules and regulations. These have been shared with students. Note that the exam timetable is a live document and should be refreshed before you view it.
Students will not be allowed on-site without first completing a RAT. If we can't see a negative RAT recorded in the ESF App, students will not be allowed on site. Please ensure this is done before they leave home. It is an important step to keep our students as safe as possible.
If your child is ill on the day of an exam, please contact the exams office here: exam@kgv.edu.hk
We will work with you to ensure they are supported.
Tutors are meeting with all Year 10 students to conduct 1:1 conversations. These are timely since we have enough data now to see how your child is progressing and can help them set targets to get the most out of their time.
Please help us to maintain uniform standards so students take pride in themselves and being part of KGV School.
At this time of year, a number of assessments will be due, so please keep an eye out for any signs of anxiety. Remind your child that assessments in Years 10 and 11 are designed to give them feedback about how they are going and what they need to work on. They are not final and if taken seriously, help them prepare and work towards the examination period this time next year.
Year 12 Message
Assessment Week will begin on Wednesday, 1 June and run until Friday, 10 June. BTEC students will continue to have lessons as normal during this time. All IB students will be off the timetable for the duration. The schedule is below.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Our Year 13 BTEC students are still striving to finish off important pieces of work as they near completion of their Diploma.
Our IB students continue to display excellent levels of resilience and patience with the RAT requirements and the rain!
Wishing everyone a great weekend.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Well done to our Year 7 students for switching so quickly to online learning this morning as the red rain signal stopped our journey to school.
The weather this week also has challenged us as we tried to get Inter-House competitions up and running again! Our Year 7s were so excited to start representing their House in activities such as Inter-House Dodgeball. We will reschedule these events and aim to share with you the full list of Inter-House activities available this term.
Thank you for your support in ensuring option choices were submitted. We are looking through these requests and will be back in touch with you where necessary.
Further information will be sent out to individual families regarding Music, Netball and Rugby Academies.
Next week we are back to a normal 5-day week, with Monday being our usual early finish.
Have a great weekend and stay dry!
The Year 7 Team

This week we reached the necessary vaccination percentages for Year 8 students, which allows them flexibility in where they chose to eat their lunch. Mr. Tranter, Senior Head of Year 8-9 spoke to Year 8 students this week to reinforce the need for them to be sensible in their choice of eating venue and to be mindful of the need for social distancing. We will monitor this situation closely.
Next week we are back to a normal 5-day week, with Monday being our usual early finish.
Have a great weekend and stay dry!

Dear Parents and Caregivers

This week you will have received information regarding decisions for Year 10 pathways in Maths, Science and WIN. This was sent to parents as an email. Students collected individualised option forms that contained details of recommendations from the staff. Please look through this information with your child, complete it as required and return the form to school and to your child’s tutor. If you would like to discuss these recommendations further then please tick the box at the bottom of the form and we will follow up.
Community Project update: It’s great to see students already executing their action plan as evidence of various forms of service emerging around the school. There are some interesting Advocacy campaigns raising awareness of various issues and several collection drives taking place looking for suitable donations for their chosen charity.
A few reminders of a few things to do with ACTION:
School Based ACTION. If students plan to organise a food/clothes/other drive or plan to hold an event during the last week of May, they need to have this approved. To do this, they should submit their plan via this Google Form
Celebrating ACTION. We would like students to post a photo or screen capture with a short caption to celebrate the excellent work they are doing. Community Project Padlet
The whole school community is looking forward to seeing the great ACTION’s taking place this month
Next week we are back to a normal 5-day week, with Monday being our usual early finish.
Have a great weekend and stay dry!
