Principal's message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was a really productive week at school with much excitement for our IB Diploma pathway Year 13 students, with their last exam being completed today. Our BTEC Diploma students have also been finishing up their coursework this week, and are excited to be completing the programme. We are now very much looking forward to the Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday 1 and Thursday 2 June. It will be a great occasion to have students and parents in at school, for this significant rite of passage.
Out Year 11 GCSE students have been working hard and maintaining a positive outlook through their (I)GCSE exams. These exams do not finish until late June, and we appreciate the resilience of our students to keep studying and preparing across this period. Our teachers have been online and available for tutorial support for all timetabled classes up until the day of the exams.
This week we had an online session with over 300 new Year 6 students and parents who will be starting at KGV next year, as they met their KGV Tutor for the first time. It was great for our parents and students to make an early connection and to continue the transition process into KGV. We look forward to the student face to face Transition Day, planned for Friday 27th.
There was a media report in the Dimsum Daily yesterday regarding a student collapsing in class at KGV. This was incorrect, and we believe this media report stemmed from an ambulance being called to ESF Jockey Club Sarah Roe School (JCSRS - is just next door). All reports indicate that the situation was handled very well by ESF staff at JCSRS, and by the ambulance officers.
Finally, please also see the link to the Draft KGV Calendar for the next academic year.

Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards

Year 10 Message
Please add to your diary our Year 10 Parent Options Information evening. It is a Zoom webinar on Monday June 6 at 6pm. The link to join the webinar is https://kgvhk.zoom.us/j/94337544080 and Passcode: 825208
This is vital information for families and students to begin thinking, discussing and planning towards the final two years of secondary school. It will be an interactive webinar where we encourage questions. We recommend your child attends as well.
In school, we are nearing the end of 1:1 discussions with tutors and students are entering a time with quite a few "year end" assessments scheduled.
Thank you for encouraging high standards of uniform and conducting and reporting RAT results each day.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
There has been a lovely atmosphere around the KGV campus this week as the weather has been kind to us and students have been able to take advantage of the pleasant conditions to be able to chat to their friends and enjoy the space around the school. The school field has also been alive with House activities, with Inter-House Dodge Ball taking centre stage. A real sense of the KGV community coming back to life.
Today we acknowledged the importance of prioritising our own mental health, by wearing green and donating money to our school charities. Tutors spoke to students about the importance of quality sleep and routines. It is important we work together to ensure the same messages are reinforced at home and strategies to promote quality sleep are encouraged to your child, our student.
On Friday 27th May, we have our ESF Transition Day, where we welcome next year’s Year 7 into school. On this day, we also have all of our current KGV students meeting their new tutor for the following year. Year 7 students will say goodbye to their Year 7 tutor in June, and join a Year 8-9 tutor group. Information about tutor groups will be shared with students next week.
Have a lovely weekend.

Year 9 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Today was also the deadline for the return of the Maths, Science and WIN pathway forms. We will be going through these next week and contacting parents who wish to discuss the pathways further. Thank you to everyone who has engaged in this process as we work to ensure each student is on the most appropriate pathway for years 10 and 11 for all round success.
On Thursday Mr. Lewis Glover held an online assembly with the Year 9 students with regards to laptops. He will be sharing more information with you via the app, but in summary students at the end of year 9 are able to use any laptop in school. This does not mean they must get a new laptop, but they no longer have to get the school laptop if necessary. Overall:
If the current laptop is working fine they are free to continue using it.
If there are issues with your child’s current laptop and they wish to get a new one you can purchase a new school laptop. The benefit of this is that the price includes 3 years warranty and accidental damage cover, as well as access to the school helpdesk.
Alternatively your child is free to bring in an alternative laptop (Windows or Mac OS).
Please carefully read the information from Mr. Glover and speak to your child before deciding on what to do, if anything.
Next week…..The Community Project students have an opportunity to run school based ACTION events during break and lunch. So far, it is exciting to see proposals for movie screenings, scavenger hunts, art installations, various stalls selling products to support the NGO they are helping and a group organising an inter-house recycling competition. All great examples of ACTION also complement other forms of action via some thought provoking advocacy campaigns and groups managing to engage with direct service, helping at dog shelters and teaching English online. We would still like to see examples via our Community Project PADLET. Please post a celebration of the great work you are doing.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Year 9 Team
Today has been our biggest single day of exams, with many students having multiple exams. I've been very impressed by the attitude and high standards year 11 students have shown. Exams continue for Year 11 students next week.
Please help your child to be organised and to arrive at school on time, in uniform, having completed a RAT before leaving home.
Key resources are the exam timetable and the exam rules and regulations. These have been shared with students. Note that the exam timetable is a live document and should be refreshed before you view it.
Students will not be allowed on-site without first completing a RAT. If we can't see a negative RAT recorded in the ESF App, students will not be allowed on site. Please ensure this is done before they leave home. It is an important step to keep our students as safe as possible.
If your child is ill on the day of an exam, please contact the exams office here: exam@kgv.edu.hk
We will work with you to ensure they are supported.
The week beginning Monday May 30th has no exams and is a chance for students to take a small break and prepare for the remainder of their subjects,
Year 12 Message
We will be hosting a Year 12 assembly next Wednesday 25 May, in advance of our assessment week, to explain procedures and expectations to everyone.
Assessment Week will begin on Wednesday, 1 June and run until Friday, 10 June. BTEC students will continue to have lessons as normal during this time. All IB students will be off the timetable for the duration. The schedule is below.
Wishing you a great weekend.
We would like to congratulate all of our BTEC and IB students on finishing units and completing their examinations. What a huge achievement, especially considering the journey our students have been on over the past two years. On behalf of the Year 13 team we applaud you and look forward to celebrating with you at your graduation ceremonies on 1st and 2nd June.
A reminder that all of our Year 13 students are invited into school on Tuesday, 31 May to take part in some much needed last day activities to mark the end of their journey at KGV. More details will be emailed to students next week.
Wishing everyone a great weekend.
