Principal's message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
We have had another busy week with many students completing their final subject assessments for the year. The results from these assessments will be used to create the final Summary Report for the year, which will be available in the last week of this term. The Year 11 and 13 students will receive their IGCSE, IBDP and BTEC Diploma qualifications over the coming months.
We thank all our students for their efforts in completing the work for this term, and for our staff for moderating (comparing) student work and then completing the Summary Reports.
It seems that the COVID-19 numbers in Hong Kong are edging up again. We know there is heightened awareness regarding this, as we approach the holiday period and the possibility of travel for some of our students and families. It is most important over the coming weeks, that we work together to keep all of our students and community as safe as possible.
We will be continuing to remind students of our health and safety measures, which include mask-wearing, daily disinfection, and daily Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) completion by staff and students. In addition, staff vaccination rate is 100%, with overall student vaccination over 80% double vaccinated.
It is also important to reinforce arrangements regarding Rapid Antigen Tests:
All students are required to complete a RAT before coming to school each morning, and to register the negative result via ESF App.
Do not send your son or daughter to school if they have any flu-like symptoms, and report your child’s absence via email.
If RAT is positive, please report immediately to school by the ESF App and to the CHP via https://www.chp.gov.hk/ratp/.
Once the school is notified of a positive RAT result via the ESF App, we are required to also notify the CHP
The Government announced that with immediate effect, all of the infection cases identified via RAT will be verified by nucleic acid tests (PCR).
Thank you for your cooperation regarding the ongoing COVID-19 situation.
A reminder that we only have two weeks left to finish this academic year. The last day of school is on Friday, 24 June, and it is a half-day starting at 8:15 and finishing at noon. The school buses have been notified.
I can also confirm that starting back for our next academic year in August 2022:
Tuesday August 23rd - Year 7, Year 10, Year 12 and all new students to KGV will attend
Wednesday August 24th - All students attend, with Year 8, Year 9, Year 11 and Year 13 having their first day.
Here is the KGV Draft Calendar for 2022/2023 - 20 May 2022
Have a good weekend.
Kind Regards
Mark Blackshaw

Year 10 Message
Thank you to the parents who joined us for the Year 10 options webinar on Monday evening, there were some great questions asked and Mr Wightman was very thorough in covering the 4 pathways in Year 12.
Option decisions are indicated in November this year and then set in the system the following February. Please start thinking and discussing this with your child so there is time to conduct research, talk with teachers and meet with guidance counsellors if required
Access a recording of the webinar, including the Q&A session here.
Access the slide deck used in the presentation here.
Access all the resources and course descriptions on the Senior school Diploma transition page in Lionel. Use the App, open Lionel2 and tap the menu button in the top left. See the screenshot below.

Students are entering into the final stages of their Community Project. Next week sees the students present their final reflections on their project journey. There are three key areas that students will focus on in their assessment: The quality of their service as action and whether they fulfilled their proposal, have they have extended their knowledge and understanding of service-learning, and finally, how have they developed their ATL skills. To have a look at some of the groups' different actions, check out the Community Project PADLET.
We are preparing our end-of-term information packs for parents, which will be sent out in the last week, this will give you all the information you need to get ready for the next term.
Students will receive the MYP Certificates at the KGV MYP Graduation on Thursday, 23 June. This will take place in tutor time. We will share photos with parents.
End-of-year reports will also be sent out to parents on Friday, 24 June. These reports show a summary of the grades achieved this semester, please overall Year 7 MYP grades. There will be a chance early next term to discuss these grades and to meet your child’s new Year 8 tutors.
A reminder that this week is an opportunity to request changes to your child’s IGCSE option choices for Year 10 and 11. As mentioned before we cannot guarantee we will be able to meet any request as the timetable has been created based on the student's original choices. We will do what we can however to meet any request. The deadline for requests has been extended to Monday the 13th to give everyone one last weekend to have any necessary discussions.
School finishes for the summer at 12 pm on Friday, 24 June.
Have a great weekend.

Year 12 Message
Our Year 12 BTEC students have been working extremely hard as usual in lessons this week and our IB students completed their Assessment Week today.
With just two weeks of term remaining, we hope all of our Year 12 students take this opportunity to continue to research courses as they prepare for their University applications next term. Please also use this time to check in with your HE Counsellors for advice on course requirements and suitable options.
Wishing you a great weekend.

Graduating Class of 2022 - Exit Advice
Hope you can now relax a bit.
We’d like to remind you all about some very important action points for your steps:
- IBO Result Service. This is a service offered by IBO to send students’ final IB results directly to the institution of students’ choice. We cannot emphasise enough how important it is for students to subscribe to this service. Not only is it the most efficient and fastest way to have your official IB results sent (including remarks), universities regard this as the official IB results for securing student offers. KGV Exam Office is responsible for coordinating this for our IB students. The deadline to sign up was 25 May. If you have missed the deadline, please email: exam@kgv.edu.hk.
- KGV Final Transcripts – IB students. You can pick up two hard copies of your final transcript from the Careers Office on 8 July, between 08:00 and 15:00. If you cannot come in person on 8 Jul, we will mail your final transcript in the week of 11 Jul. Do check your Hong Kong residential address on Lionel and email us if there is any change. If you will be out of Hong Kong and like us to send your final transcript to an overseas residential address, please complete this form, by 24 June 2022.
- KGV Final Transcripts – BTEC students. We will mail you your final transcript when it is ready. Please ensure your address on Lionel is current, or provide us an overseas residential address for us to mail your final transcript.
- Official IB & BTEC certificates issued by Exam Boards. These are coordinated by our Exam Office and should be ready after the summer break. Please look out for correspondence on collection.
The University of Cambridge is starting a new monthly e-newsletter for parents, carers and supporters of prospective applicants to Cambridge, offering support and advice throughout the admissions process. The newsletter will address common questions and concerns and aims to offer guidance when supporting your student. Sign up here.
