Dear Parents and Guardians,
There was a real buzz around the school today, with the Swimming Gala in full swing. Our students seemed to have a great time, with the famous KGV House Spirit loud and proud for all to see and hear. Again, we are returning to some normality as we continue to move through the pandemic.
Due to the COVID restrictions, having our Gala at an external venue would have excluded many of our students from attending. Having the event at KGV also meant that we could not invite our parents to school due to our limited space around our pool. We hope to move to an outside swimming venue next year and invite parents and guardians along.
I also attended the Alex Reeve Memorial KGV Alumni versus Student cricket match at the KCC this afternoon. It was great to see our students and Alumni keep this tradition going at such an iconic venue and to share stories in such good spirits.
Many of you will have received a personal email regarding the 1 November deadline to have over 90% of our students record three COVID vaccine doses or the equivalent. This will enable our school to remain open for full-day face-to-face schooling. From the initial response to our emails, many students have received three or two doses and a COVID recovery certificate. Parents just have not uploaded this information on our ESF App. To do this, go to Lionel VLE, scroll down to COVID-19 Vaccination Pass and tap on the blue ‘here’ button.
The construction of our new fitness and weight training gym has commenced down the southern end of our pitch. The facility is planned to be finished in approximately five months, so we hope to have students using the new gym in Term 3 this academic year. We thank our KGV School Council for supporting the project, which will add another great facility to our school.
The Education Bureau has announced this week that there will be a one-off student grant of $2,500 for each student. We are currently in the process of arranging this grant for our students. In the coming weeks, your child will bring home a pre-printed form from the EDB. We will update you with further details next week.
We are running School Tours on most Tuesday mornings from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. These tours are open to current and prospective parents. On tour, we walk around the school to visit key facilities and, more importantly, talk to our students and see learning in action! Please click on this link to register.
Have a good weekend.

House Spirit was on show at the Swimming Gala today. Well done to all those who participated in the event and a special congratulations to our Year 8 winners. We look forward to hearing the results early next week.
Interhouse Knitting is a non-sporting House Competition that is available for all students to take part in. There are notices regarding this in the Student Bulletin if your child would like to know more about how to contribute. Alongside this, Lionel and the Student Bulletin have updated information on which CAS activities are still available for sign-up. House Competitions and CAS Activities are great for students to feel a greater sense of belonging at KGV.
Another batch of RAT kits were distributed this week. If your child did not receive their RAT kits, they can collect them from the Year 7-9 office.
Interhouse Fundraising
This takes place next week on the following dates:
• September 27th (Tuesday): Upsdell
• September 28th (Wednesday): Rowell
• September 29th (Thursday): Crozier
• September 30th (Friday): Nightingale
The Student Wellbeing Survey is happening next week. Please see the Student Wellbeing message to parents that we have included in the Newsletter.
In our Year 8-9 Assemblies this week we went through the KGV Dress Code in detail. Students responded positively to this and are now more aware of our expectations. I have attached a copy so you can support your child in dressing with pride daily.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Our Year 7 swimmers had a fantastic time today at the KGV Swimming Gala. They made themselves and their School Houses proud as they challenged themselves, put themselves out of their comfort zone and represented their House. Well done to all involved. It was an excellent day.
Ms Beer met with Year 7 students this week to review Year 7 Challenge Week details. Below are some resources for you to look through. We will host an online Challenge Week meeting for parents next week. In the meantime, one of the most important things we need to know is if your child can ride a bike! Please complete the google form at your earliest convenience and before next Friday. We are looking to hold some cycling lessons for those students who would benefit from more time on a bike before they spend the day cycling in Sha Tin;
Parent Google Form - please complete before 30th September

We are finalising Challenge Week costs and will send details to you next week regarding payment.
Next week, students will be involved in Charity Days, where tutor groups organise fundraising activities for their House Charities.
Have a good weekend.
Seeing so many Year 10 students swimming in the gala today was fantastic. After years of no such events, we enjoy the good-natured competitiveness between houses.
We have an updated document with links to the syllabus statements for each subject we offer. These syllabus statements help students track their learning over the next two years. We strongly encourage students to download and use them to mark up which statements they have mastered and need to work on.
The Yellis data from the adaptive test sat a few weeks ago was sent out to families this week and is being incorporated into Lionel over the next few days. We hope this information is helpful and if you have any questions about it, please get in touch with your child's tutor in the first instance.
Challenge Week invoices went out this week and staff are busy organising and preparing for Challenge Week at the end of October.

It was a wonderful atmosphere around our school today, with our swimming gala being held on-site. Our senior students did a super job of encouraging all of our younger students by drumming up KGV House Spirit. Congratulations to all of our winners today and it was great to see so many of our students participating. A tremendous day for our school.
Lots of our Year 12 students have been working hard on their Interhouse Knitting during break and lunchtimes this week as they endeavour to do all they can for their respective Houses!
Wishing you a great weekend.

Year 13
We are continuing the individual 1-1 H.E. meetings with our Y13 students. Students are reminded to upload their personal statements to Unifrog to make the meeting more productive.
Y13 Parents info Session took place on 15 Sep. Parents can download the presentation from Lionel using their parent login ID.
Student official full names are used on school transcripts. We ask parents to check that their children’s official full name in the school record matches that on their identity documents. This is especially so when students are known in school by their preferred names, which may not be their official names.
H.E. sessions during PSE lessons. The Careers Team will use some of the PSE lessons for our Y13 students to prepare for university applications. The next session is an interview workshop on 3 Oct.

KGV Careers Team
Each year, we ask students to complete a short survey about various aspects of their wellbeing. This includes questions on things like friendships, how they are coping with school work, quality of sleep and whether they feel cared for by teachers. Students also have the chance to let us know if they have any concerns about their friends or if they would like to have a counselling appointment. The purpose of the survey is threefold; an opportunity for students to self-reflect on aspects of their wellbeing, a chance for us to identify any individual students who may need additional support, and finally for us to get the ‘big picture’ of the general student wellbeing at KGV. Here is a short video made for our students, which explains the survey purpose and structure further https://youtu.be/aZ0k6vYkM3o
The survey is administered twice a year, in September and February. Next week students will be asked to complete the Student Wellbeing Survey. They will be emailed the survey link and it will also be posted on the student bulletin all week. Students will be given time at school to complete this but are also welcome to do it in their own time if they prefer; it should only take around 10 minutes. The student responses are not anonymous and their tutor, or a nominated staff member, will have a follow-up conversation with each student in the coming weeks. If needed we will provide additional support.
If you have any questions about the survey, please contact Amanda Barton. We’d also encourage you to contact your child’s tutor at any time if you have concerns or information you’d like to share with us about your child’s wellbeing,
Following the successful 13 September Parent Talk 'Top Tips on Digital Safety' by Lewis Glover (Learning Tech Co-ordinator and Head of Computer Science at KGV), please see below advice regarding the Home Media Agreement.
Home Media Agreement
We strongly advise families to have a Home Media Contract between the household members. Agreeing on device/technology usage rules enables parents and guardians to maintain clear expectations and encourage young people to have a positive relationship with technology. These agreements work best if adults take the lead in demonstrating the behaviours they would like to see to their children.
Here is an example of a Home Media Contract, though many others are around. Feel free to adapt them to suit your family's needs: Home Media Agreement
Common Sense Media also has a lot of other good resources: [Web Link]
