Dear Parents and Guardians
Last night, I attended our first Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting of the academic year. I was again reminded of how important it is to have an honest, open and productive relationship with our parent community. The old saying that it ‘takes a village to raise a child’ reinforces the need to create and maintain partnerships with parents and students and actively forge these ‘village’ connections.
I would encourage all parents to seek opportunities to engage with our school and teachers. There are multiple forums in which parents can engage with us, including
Emailing your child’s tutor if you have any questions or concerns
Emailing the office@kgv.edu.hk with specific questions
Checking the ESF App for messages and updates
Coming along to our monthly online Friday Feedback with the Principal sessions. Our upcoming session will be on Friday 14 October, 10.30 am. You can register here
Book a tour of the school, which occurs most Tuesday mornings from 9.30 am to 10.30 am. Contact our Admissions office at admissions@kgv.edu.hk
Critically, we seek to continue to grow our culture of inclusion and equity, whether all students and parents feel safe, known and heard. Reaching out to the school in various ways is integral to building our culture of openness and feedback.
I would also welcome Pilar Morais and George Sobek as newly appointed Parent Representatives to our KGV School Council. We look forward to working closely with both of them through our School Council as we work to create the best possible school we can for the students and community we serve.
A final reminder to please update your child’s vaccination records via the ESF App. To do so, tap on the Lionel VLE, scroll down to COVID-19 Vaccination Pass and tap on the blue ‘here’ button. We are keen to work with our parents to achieve the 90% vaccination level by 1 November and keep our school open for full days.
The Education Bureau has announced the Student Grant for 2022- 2023, a one-off student grant of $2,500 for each student. We have now received the forms from EDB. Existing students will receive a pre-printed form and new students (Y7 and new admissions) will need to fill out a blank form. We will distribute these forms to your child in the coming week. Once you receive your preprinted form, please verify your details, sign it, and return it to your child’s tutor.
Have a good weekend.
Principal, KGV School
Year 10 students have engaged with charity events with enthusiasm this week and it has been great to see House and charitable spirit in abundance.
Assessments are beginning in some subjects, so this is our opportunity as parents to help our children keep it all in perspective. Please make sure your child knows that assessments are for them to test themselves and see how they are going. It is the feedback that is important, not the grades at this stage. It's all practise until May 2024.
In PSHE students in year 10 have started their drugs and alcohol unit. Our aims with this unit are to empower students, reduce harm and promote positive health and wellbeing.
If parents have any questions or would like further information on the unit, they are welcome to get in touch with Mr Chappell. Below are some signposts for support and further information.
Year 11 students have engaged with charity events with enthusiasm this week and it has been great to see house and charitable spirit in abundance.
1:1 conversations are taking place with tutors to ensure that all students are supported and helped to reach their goals over the rest of this academic year.
Mock exams for Year 11 are scheduled for 30 January, immediately after the Chinese New Year break.
We would like to thank our Year 12 students for their engagement and feedback over this past week. We held a special Senior School Assembly on Wednesday afternoon. We look forward to collaborating with all our Student Leaders to produce agreed expectations and formalised ways of working in our Senior School Common Room and shared study spaces.
We are extremely optimistic about this renewed drive from all of our Year 12 students towards acceptable behaviours and the importance of mutual respect for each other and for our colleagues here at KGV.
Wishing you a great weekend.

Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers
Challenge Week:
We are now able to confirm the cost for Year 7 Challenge Week. You will receive an email from our finance team requesting HK$1700 per student. They will provide details on how to make this payment through the ESF App. Please can you settle this payment by October 24th 2022.
Thank you to those of you who have completed the Year 7 Challenge Week Questionnaire. We have emailed those parents whose information is outstanding. Please can you do this asap.
We have hired a number of bikes to use in school to support those students who need more time to practise ahead of Challenge Week.
Following Half Term break we will hold an online Parents Session to go through the information and answer any questions.
Next week, all tutors will be meeting with the Year 7 team, to discuss each student individually and to ensure we have the correct amount of support and extension opportunities in place. We will reach out to individual families following these meetings where we need to increase support.
We have completed the process of collecting the Student Health Service forms. We will not be accepting any further submissions through the school. Should you still wish to enrol with this service, please contact Kowloon City Lions Club Health Service Centre at 2382 2220. Those enroled will be given an appointment letter through the school. Appointments will be scheduled at the above clinic during the summer break.
I hope your child has been able to take part in some of the Inter House competitions or CAS activities available to them. It has been wonderful to see so many students involved in the wider KGV life.
Finally, an area we would like your help with is speaking to your child about the importance of respecting our differences. We have spent quite a lot of time over the last couple of weeks resolving friendship issues and disputes. We know the students are still getting back to some sense of normality and learning how to use the same space. A conversation with your child at home and supporting us in our work on working and playing together would be much appreciated.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 7 Team.
Congratulations to all those who organised the Charity Fundraising events this week and raised money. There was much excitement and competition for our students and staff to engage with. Due to the bad weather on Friday, Nightingale’s event day has been postponed.

The Year 9 Options process for Year 10 IGCSE will start soon and we will share updated subject information with students and parents shortly. This information will help you and your child start your discussions about the different IGCSE subjects on offer and what choices they want to make.
