Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It was great to be part of Pride Week at school this week as we embrace and celebrate diversity, equity, and inclusion. The week is about visibility and saying as a school that we want to consciously step into this space and recognise the rights of all LGBTQ+ in our community. We want to do all we can to ensure KGV is a place of safety and welcome. Our students celebrated with a range of activities, and the week was a powerful example of what we stand for as a school and how we strive to fulfil our vision to make sure that all students feel safe, heard, known and have a sense of belonging.
We are pleased to announce that we are holding a Carol Concert at 6 pm on December 8. A range of other activities will run from 4.30 pm this afternoon/evening. Please pencil this in, and we look forward to having parents and friends on Campus for our Christmas Carol concert.
We look forward to the upcoming Learning Reviews, which start next Wednesday. Students will be set detailed work to complete for each subject across the day. It is important that students attend the meetings where possible, and they can join the meetings from home from their devices. A reminder that the Learning Review appointment system will close on Monday, ahead of Wednesday’s Learning Review. It will re-open again on Thursday. Parents can then make any remaining bookings for 1st and 6th December.
Have a good weekend.

Principal, KGV School
The first day of learning reviews takes place on Wednesday. Work will be sent for your child to complete independently that day. Please talk to your child ahead of these meetings and look through their recent results and work to prepare any questions for the 10-minute meeting.
1:1 conversations between students and their tutors are ongoing. This is where tutors will check that your child is feeling good about their time at school, their progress, and if there is any support or help, they would like.
Next week will be house assemblies where Colours awards are given to students who have made considerable commitments to co-curricular activities.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week, we have been celebrating Pride Week. This week is organised by our Gender, Sexuality Alliance (GSA) and asks our community to spend a week thinking about others and promoting tolerance, empathy and self-acceptance. Students have had the opportunity to watch movies, buy merchandise and watch today’s celebration lunchtime event.
We have also spent time this week preparing students for next week’s Learning Review. Year 7 students have been given question prompts to use in the meetings with teachers and their parents. We want students to advocate for themselves and strive to improve continually. Recognising we are all imperfect, we have asked students to use the question “how can I improve?” At KGV, we recognise that this improvement is not just down to students but also the support and intervention from teachers. Students will also ask their teachers “what can you do to help me improve.” This partnership and joint commitment are fundamental to student success. Following the Learning Reviews, tutors will sit down with students and go through the notes they have been asked to make in their journals. Tutors will help students narrow their goals and set SMART targets.
Parents in Nightingale and Upsdell will have received an email from Carole Beer yesterday outlining the plans in place to make up for the missed activities on Challenge Week. Rowell and Crozier students all managed to complete the kite-making and coasteering activities. Nightingale and Upsdell students will do these activities on 15th December. Parents of Nightingale and Upsdell students, please check your emails.
A reminder that the Learning Review appointment system will close on Monday, ahead of Wednesday’s Learning Review. It will re-open again on Thursday. Parents can then make any remaining bookings for 1st and 6th December.

This week, we'd like to share some of the data on Family Support from our Student Wellbeing Survey.
In the well-being survey, we asked four questions about “Family Support for Learning” and the results show an overwhelmingly positive perception of family support for students at KGV (see graphs below)). So well done KGV parents and thank you for everything you do to support your children (our students). We know it’s the hardest job in the world!
To thank you for your effort and support you on your parenting journeys, we’d like to share this podcast with you, by The Happiness Lab (with Dr Laurie Santos from Yale University), from the series “Happier Parents, Happier Kids”. This is part 2, focusing on the valuable experience of failing. This link is for Spotify, but you can listen to any podcast provider. These episodes can also be found on YouTube. Enjoy!
