Dear Parents and Guardians,
Thank you to all parents who engaged strongly in the Learning Reviews over the past two weeks. We have experienced very high engagement in the process, with 1494 individual meetings and an average of 6 interviews per student. This is our highest participation rate ever in a Learning Review process.
This a reminder that the appointment system is open again for any further bookings or changes to current bookings for our final Learning Review evening on Tuesday, 6 December.
Sports Day
We also had a great day on Monday at the KGV Sports carnivals. Seeing the students competing so strongly and the house spirit getting stronger at every event was wonderful. I was again reminded about how remarkable our students are for being talented in various activities, whether sports, academics, performing arts, etc.
Creative Arts Week
We are excited about our Creative Arts Week from 5 to 9 December, where our students will have the opportunity to experience a wide range of events. It is still possible to sign up for 8th December when we have a wide range of events, including our Carol Concert from 6 pm to 7 pm. We hope many of you can join us to celebrate our first full face-to-face event in many years. Please sign up below if you would like to come along.

Eating Arrangements and Canteen Services
From today 2 December, the changes in EDB guidelines mean that students in Years 7 and 8 no longer need to eat in designated spaces. Our canteen provider Sodexo is looking to expand the Food & Beverage offers to students, faculty, and staff at KGV. Following the return from Winter Break on January 9, 2023, the following services will be added:
- The Main Canteen will resume lunch services,
- Daily Breakfast will be served at Leo’s Cafe,
- Food will be served from the Main Canteen and Leo’s Cafe at the first break.
We are also organising meetings with our students and Sodexo regarding meal options and how we can provide the best possible nutritional and sought-after options choices. If parents have any questions or suggestions, they can email Sodexo’s Canteen Manager, Ms Clotho Chan, at unit.kgv.hk@sodexo.com.
Summer Holiday Planning
For those who missed this last week, we can confirm that the summer holidays begin on July 1, 2023, and the first day of the school year for 2023/24 will be on August 16, 2023.
EDB Survey
The EDB has requested that we share the following with our parents.
Policy 21 has been commissioned by the EDB to conduct a survey questionnaire for parents in Hong Kong, and KGV parents have been selected to complete the survey. The study results will help the Hong Kong SAR Government review the provision of international school places in Hong Kong and the support measures for the international school sector. The information gathered in the study will be kept strictly confidential and used for overall statistics only. No reference will be made to the identity of individual respondents. Please complete the survey here.
Kind Regards,

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We had a fantastic day on Monday at our Year 7-8 Sports Event. The weather was kind to us and we were able to enjoy a morning’s worth of athletics out in the sunshine on the KGV pitch. Upsdell were the overall winners on the day, but there were some amazing individual sports achievements from our Year 7s. We will celebrate their successes in assemblies over the coming weeks. Thank you to those parents who were able to join us at this event.
Thank you so much to those of you who attended this week’s Learning Review. Teachers have spoken about how fabulous these meetings were with you and how much they enjoyed being able to work with you to support your child, our student! Our final Learning Review is Tuesday 6th December. The system will stay open until Sunday evening.
This week, tutor groups have been deciding on their tutor group stall for our KGV Community Celebration. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at next Thursday’s event. Gates will open at 4:30 pm. Emails have been sent to parents who have signed up, to explain our health and safety requirements. There is still time to sign up. It would be wonderful to see you at our event, as we celebrate the end of this term and welcome in the festive season.
From 1st December, Year 7 students no longer eat their snacks in tutor time or are restricted to designated eating spaces. Following EDB guidelines, students are now permitted to eat at any food outlet, during break and lunchtime.
Have a great weekend. Looking forward to seeing you on Thursday 8th December at our KGV Community Celebration.
Year 10 Message
1:1 conversations with tutors are ongoing. This is where a tutor dedicates time to just one student and works with them to examine all the pressures and opportunities in their life with an eye to seeing how we can help.
The end of term brings many assessments. It is important for students to take these seriously as an opportunity to receive feedback on how they are progressing. Please check on your child and make sure they are not feeling stressed about these assessments. They are internal and only provide feedback to students and teachers. If you see undue anxiety, please get in touch with your child's tutor.
Next week is our Creative Arts week, including the Winter concert. There will be many activities for students during the week. Please see if you can join us on Thursday evening.
Next Tuesday is the last opportunity for Learning Review meetings with your child's teachers. The booking system is available through the App now and will close on Sunday.
Year 11 Mock exams will run from Monday, 30 Jan through to Friday, 10 Feb. A group of Year 11 and 12 students provided feedback on a draft schedule earlier this week and we are revising and confirming with subject leaders now. We'll publish it before the end of term.
It is important for students to take these seriously as an opportunity to test themselves and receive feedback on their progress. Please check on your child and ensure they are not stressed about these assessments. They are internal and only provide feedback to students and teachers. If you see undue anxiety, please get in touch with your child's tutor.
You can see dates for the final GCSE exams in May and June next year here. The timing on each day is not yet available.
Provisional option choices are done now. Please ask your child to show you their choices in Lionel if they haven't done so already. When we seek the final option choices in February, parents will be emailed with details of the choices and asked to confirm.
Next week is Creative Arts week and our Winter Carol concert. There will be many activities for students during the week. Please see if you can join us on Thursday evening for the Carol concert.
Next Tuesday is the last opportunity for Learning Review meetings with your child's teachers. The booking system is available through the App now and will close on Sunday.
KGV Sports Day on Monday, 28 November was a fantastic display of community spirit, connection and belonging. It was heartwarming to see so many Year 8 & 9 students participating in track and field events across the day as well as cheering and supporting each other to reach the finish line.
During the assembly on Friday, we were treated to two performances from Year 9 Bands who have entered the Inter School Battle of The Bands Competition. Congratulations to Max Chan (09N12), Enoch Wai (09N06), Monique Wong (09U05) and Chesney Yim (09R05), who performed “Unconditionally” by Katy Perry. Congratulations also to Georgio Cagliarini (09R12), Jasper Cheng (09N12), Joyce Wang (09U05) and Brandon Wong (09U08), who performed “Perfume” by Lovejoy.

Next Tuesday is the last opportunity for Learning Review meetings with your child's teachers. The booking system is available through the App now and will close on Sunday.
From today, eating restrictions for students around the school have been removed. This means that tutees will no longer eat snacks in tutor time, all snacks will be eaten during break time.
KGV School promotes excellent punctuality records across all years, to ensure that students and staff have the maximum possible time to enable effective teaching and learning to be carried out. A reminder that if students swipe into school after 8:10 am, they are considered late. With two weeks of Term 1 to go, a small number of Year 8 & 9 students are accumulating a large number of 'unexplained lates' to school. Please see our KGV Punctuality Guidelines for more information and our tiered response.
Have a great weekend.
We would like to congratulate all of our fantastic Year 12 athletes who participated with such magnificent effort and enthusiasm on Monday 28 November at our annual KGV Sports Day. There was a fantastic display of House Spirit alongside our sense of community, connection and belonging.
Our Senior School tutors will continue their 1-1 meetings with your child. In these conversations, your child’s tutor seeks to understand your child's situation, progress and experience. Our tutors are trying to guide and support your child in order to help them meet their goals over the course of Years 12 and 13.

As part of our IB 5-year review, we want to ensure our school community is fully aware of the IB Learner Profile.
The International Baccalaureate® (IB) learner profile describes a broad range of human capacities and responsibilities that go beyond academic success.

Each of KGV's IB programmes is committed to the development of students according to the IB learner profile.
The profile aims to develop learners who are:
