Dear Parents and Guardians
It was great to see all our students back this week looking refreshed after the Spring vacation. It has been interesting to hear about what our students got up to over the break, both in Hong Kong and overseas.
This afternoon, we farewell our Year 11 students as they head off to prepare for their upcoming (I)GCSE exams. All students can access teachers in person or via Google Links if they want support during this study period. Staff will be available during every timetabled lesson across the week, and we hope our students engage with this support as needed. Also, Good luck to our Year 13 IB students who head into exams next week. We have great confidence in what all our students can achieve, as we know that when they combine hard work with their talent, they can accomplish some of the best grades in the world.
Next week, we are conducting focus groups of randomly selected students to understand the student experience more. The student experience is the ultimate point of truth for us as we seek to evaluate our journey towards our purpose for every student to ‘be their own remarkable’. The questions and discussions will focus on some key themes, such as:
The student classroom experiences
Personalising learning
Connecting learning to real-world contexts
Feedback
Opportunities to be involved in projects outside the traditional curriculum
Sense of belonging and connectedness to school
We look forward to the insightful information and feedback we will receive. This information will be critical in informing our improvement agenda next year as we continually seek to make KGV an even better place to learn and belong for our students.
Have a good weekend.
Mark Blackshaw,
Principal KGV School.

Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers
It was wonderful to see all our amazing Year 7 students back at school this week. Students seemed rested, enthusiastic, and ready to learn. We had a Year 7 assembly on Tuesday when we set out our expectations for this Term and highlighted events students could involve themselves in.
This week, we wanted to give a big shout-out to Even Chan, who is one of our highly talented Year 7 musicians. Even is currently on his way to perform at the prestigious Centre for Fine Arts in Brussels and the Royal Albert Hall in London. Best of luck, Even. We look forward to hearing about your experience as you perform at the Winner’s Concerts after receiving the 1st Prize as the Winner of the ‘2023 International Music Competition Brussels & London’, Grand Prize Virtuoso!
Have a great weekend.
The Year 7 Team
Year 9 Message
It was great to welcome our students back this week, looking refreshed and ready to learn after the Spring break.
Year 9 students were involved with their Community Project from Periods 1 to 4 today. Mr Beard was impressed with the student's motivation and enthusiasm. It was encouraging to see them working so well with their groups for this crucial final planning day. Please read Mr Beard’s ESF App message for more information about the Community Project.
In the Year 9 Assembly yesterday, we went through the Year 9 Options for Maths, Science and WIN Pathways. Departments are finalising the recommendations, which will be communicated to students and parents shortly. In the meantime, if the students have any questions, they should speak to their Maths/Science teacher.
During this week's assemblies, we spoke to students about General Expectations and how we will focus on some critical areas over this term. They are:
Punctuality to school, lessons, and tutor time
Not leaving lessons early
Disconnect to reconnect. Mobile phones should be in bags between 7.30 am and 3.20 pm except for 5 minutes at the start of tutor time and should always be on silent.
Uniform - correct and appropriately worn, including shirts tucked in and PE/Drama uniforms only be worn in those lessons.
General Behaviour - how we behave around school, treat others, use appropriate language and show respect/empathy towards others. General school values.
We encourage you to talk to your child about our general expectations and why they are essential to a highly effective school environment.
This week we had the Year 9 to 10 Interhouse Volleyball Competition. The results were: 1st Upsdell, 2nd Nightingale, 3rd Crozier and 4th Rowell. Mr Davidson’s top performer was Aaron Wong. Congratulations to all those students who participated.
Year 8 Message
It was great to welcome our students back this week, looking refreshed and ready to learn after the Spring break.
The system for Year 8 Options will be open for students between 2-7 May. As explained in the Assembly this week, students will confirm their Language choices and make their Arts choices. If there are any questions or issues, students should see the Senior Head of Year, Mr Tranter.

Year 10 Message
Year 10 students should be reviewing content for their term 3 assessments and looking to use the methods and strategies shared with them on our study skills day.
Please look out for signs of anxiety. Any assessments are internal and for feedback purposes only. Do let us know if we can help.
Year 11 Message
We wished all our Year 11 students the best for their exams in an assembly this afternoon. We farewelled students who are not returning to KGV next year. For them this was their last day of school.
We reminded all students of the arrangements during study leave, reminding them that their teachers are still available to help with their revision, that they should wear uniform when coming to school and to check their exam timetable carefully.
The Y10/11 team has been reflecting today on how much our students have changed over the last two years, growing into young adults we are very proud of.
Please encourage your child to balance sleep, exercise and relaxation with their study over the next few weeks and watch out for any signs of anxiety.
Please help them to check they are organised and have all their equipment and arrive at school in plenty of time for each exam. Mr Kent and I will be here to greet them for every exam. You can find the official exam timetable here.

KGV Careers Website is another platform where we share information and resources on higher education, scholarship, external events, enrichment programmes and many more.
HE Resources via Google Classroom for Y12 & Y13. All resources for higher education applications are available via Google Classroom, including internal deadlines. Students should look out for announcements & reminders. Y13s should ensure they are keeping their paces with applications.
Student official full names are used on school transcripts. We would like to ask parents to check that their children’s official full name in the school record matches that on their identity documents. This is especially so when students are known in school by their preferred names which may not be their official names. Unmatched names may cause difficulties with university offers.
