Dear Year 11 & 12 Students,
KGV will co-host a Harvard Young Leadership Program in August 2023. This 3-day in-person course will surely be an excellent opportunity for students keen to develop their leadership skills and learn from other successful young leaders. Please see the attached PDF for more information.
Please note that the dates of the course are at the end of the summer holidays, just before the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, so do not clash with the first days of school for students. However, students who are travelling during the summer holidays or have other commitments must ensure that they will be back in Hong Kong and available to attend all three days of the course.
Dates: Sunday 13th, Monday 14th & Tuesday 15th August 2023.
Times: Approximately 9am to 3pm each day, exact times to be confirmed.
Location: KGV Innovation House.
Cost: The total cost per student is US$350, but the school will subsidise this. Each student will need to pay HK$1,500, and the school will pay the rest and provide lunch.
Number of Participants: 15 KGV students.
Audience: Students currently in Years 11 or 12 who will be returning to KGV in Years 12 or 13 for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Application Process: As places are limited and we expect a high level of interest, students will need to apply to join the course using either of the two options below:
Option 1: Students can write a 1-page application letter (approximately 500 words).
Option 2: Students can create a short application video (maximum 3 minutes).
The letter/video could include the following:
Why do you want to do this course, and what do you hope to gain from it?
What specific part of the course interests you the most and why?
How do you plan to use the skills and knowledge developed in this course to contribute to KGV and the wider community?
What do you see as your strengths as a leader, and what skills do you think you still need to develop?
What leadership roles have you already undertaken (either in or out of KGV), what successes and challenges did you have, and what have you learned from them?
Submission Details: Share the letter/video with Mr. Hotwani by email (hotwak1@kgv.hk). The letter/video must be set to be viewable by anyone with the link, but will only be shared with other staff involved in the selection process. If submitting a letter, this must be shared as a Google Doc so that the entire editing history can be seen. Students can use assistive technology to proofread and edit the letter, but the content of the letter must be self-written.
Submission Deadline: 8am, Monday 5th June 2023.
Selection Process: The application letters and videos will be reviewed by senior staff. Students will be notified if they have been accepted onto the course by mid-June. Payment for the course will need to be made before the end of June to secure the place, otherwise the place may be offered to other students.
Follow-up: After completing the course, participants may be asked to share some of their insights with other students in the school, e.g. through an assembly.
If you have any questions about the course, first please review the attached PDF then see Mr. Hotwani in the Y10-11 Office if still needed.
