Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been an emotional week at KGV with the Graduation Ceremony on Wednesday for our 2023 Year 13 class and the Graduation Ball this evening at the Hotel Icon. Many students have been at KGV since year 7, attended ESF primary schools, and experienced the 13-year ESF journey. As a Principal, I felt proud to be representing KGV and all ESF schools at this moment in time.
I want to thank our parents for their support, as we were overwhelmed by the number of parents who made an effort to be part of these celebrations.
At the Graduation Ceremony, I spoke to many parents and guardians about their experiences and feelings during the week. The main themes that came through to me from our parents on the night were:
It was an emotional week for me and also for our staff as well. Many teachers have invested so much into these students, and seeing them graduate and move on is gratifying. I felt the power of community and a deep sense of privilege to be part of this journey and witness the power of parenting and the concrete and intangible rewards that flow from such moments. In a way, seeing your child work hard, achieve, and set a course for the future is what life is all about. In the sense of creating meaning and leaving a legacy, some moments in life don’t get any better than this.
To start the journey, it was also exciting to welcome our new Year 7 parents and students to school on Friday during the Year 6 into 7 transition day. There was again a sense of excitement to be part of this transition and begin a new and exciting learning phase.
Kind Regards,
Mark Blackshaw,
Principal, KGV School.
Year 10 Message
Congratulations to Aakash Daryanani and Reia Kwan who produced a short film for Film Stylo, a Hong Kong wide competition. They produced a film a film titled "Against the clock" in only 3 weeks which included location shooting, scripting and editing much of it done in their own time. Their film was sleected for the top film award.
On Thursday, Year 10 students were introduced to the option pathways they can follow at KGV in Years 12 and 13. Mr Wightman from the senior school hosted the presentation and you can access the slide deck here. Students will indicate preliminary subject choices in November this year and make final choices the following March. There is much support available for students and families to help them explore and make informed decisions about pathways and subject choices for Year 12.
Assessments continue for Year 10 students over the next few weeks. Tutors are engaging students in 1:1 conversations to understand the full picture of pressures and aspirations for each student and then seek to support.
Year 11 Message
Year 11 students have completed the majority of their exams and had a break this week. Next Monday we are back into GCSE exams. Access the full timetable here.

Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It has been an exceptionally busy week for the KGV Community, as we have made the most of the break in the external exams schedule, to hold several of our annual KGV events. Our Year 7s have been an integral part of these events from the Summer Concert to Inter-House Rounders, through to today's ESF Transition Day. I am so proud of how our Year 7s are making the most of the opportunities available to them at KGV and how they are demonstrating their commitment and pride in their School and School House. It has been wonderful to see so many of our Year 7s either performing on stage or taking leadership roles in the school-wide events.
Thank you to you all for completing the Creative Arts Options, and supporting your child in deciding which of the 4 subjects (Media, Art, Music, or Drama) they will no longer study in Year 8.
Please speak to your child this evening about today's tutor time experience and their first session with their new tutor for next year.
Have a lovely weekend.
The Year 7 Team.
Year 13 Message
Congratulations to our Year 13 Graduates! We thoroughly enjoyed celebrating with you on Wednesday evening and are very much looking forward to your Graduation meal this evening at Hotel ICON.
Wishing you a great weekend!
Year 8 Message
ESF-wide, today was Transition Day. Our Year 8 students attend their regular classes; however, during tutor time, they welcomed the Year 7 students who will join their tutor class. It was heartwarming to see the effort that the Year 8’s put in to make the Year 7’s feel welcome, and I know they will be looking forward to being together as a tutor class in August 2023.
Congratulations to our Year 8 Students who participated in the Summer Music Concert on Tuesday evening. We had Year 8 students perform small group performances, and many performed in the Year 7-8 Orchestra and the Year 7-8 Choir.
Wishing you a great weekend!
Year 12 Message
Please find below the Year 12 term 3 assessment schedule for next week:
We request that our students please check with their subject teachers regarding specific details about the content of each assessment.

BTEC students will need to continue to attend lessons as normal. If BTEC students have an IB assessment then they will have study leave the day before the assessment.
Wishing you a great weekend!
Year 9 Message
ESF-wide, today was Transition Day. Our Year 9 students attended their regular classes; however, during tutor time, they joined their new tutor class for August 2023. Parent talk - “BeYOUtiful: blossoming conversations about body image”
Monday 12 June 2023
6.30-7.30pm online
Have you ever felt insecure or unhappy about your physical appearance? Have you ever wondered whether you’d be happier if you looked more like that model on the MTR advertisement? For most of us, the answer is yes. And yet, despite how common these concerns are, many of us hesitate to talk openly about them even with the people who are closest to us.
Join the Body Banter team in discussing the benefits of starting open conversations about body image for everyone in the family, and learn concrete ways that family members can work together to foster more accepting relationships with their bodies through compassionate and curious conversation.
We will also hear from our student-led Body Banter discussion group at KGV for a youth perspective on the importance of sparking conversations about body image topics.
Let’s bring on the Banter!!
