Interim Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It has been a wonderful week at KGV, full of energy, excitement and enthusiasm. The range of activities the students have been engaging with has been truly breathtaking, and is testimony to the vision of KGV being a ‘school for one.’ As captured by the Challenge Week Blog, they have been challenged to try something new, deepen their skills and broaden their experiences. The smiles on the student faces throughout the week reflect how much they have enjoyed the week and I hope they have taken the opportunity to share their experiences at home.
Challenge Week could never have happened without the commitment, determination and expertise of our staff. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all KGV staff involved in planning, designing and leading these experiences. They are truly remarkable and I would like to say a particular thank you to Tim Carrell and Ian Goff for their tireless work and leadership of Challenge Week.
Looking towards next week, please be reminded that Monday 6th November is a staff training day and students should not attend school. The focus for staff on the training day will link to our Inclusion and Equity agenda where we will be considering how we can ensure all students are known, heard, safe and successful.
Lastly, next week is our Winter Uniform transition week and from Monday 13th November, all students must wear their school ties.
Have an enjoyable and restful weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Interim Principal
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
You should all be exceptionally proud of your child this week! We have seen incredible levels of resilience, energy, enthusiasm and laughter throughout the week, as students have thrown themselves wholeheartedly into all of the activities presented to them in Year 7 Challenge Week. Students are likely to be tired this weekend and need time to rest and recover. We hope they have many stories to share about their personal achievements and memories of the week.
A reminder that Monday is a staff training day and therefore students have a day at home, before returning to school on Tuesday for Week 1 lessons. This is also our uniform transition week and students can start wearing their ties. They might want to spend some time on Monday watching some YouTube videos on how to tie a tie!
Finally, a request for those parents who are members of the KGV Year 7 Parent WhatsApp Group. Please can you let me know if you would be interested in working with the school to continue to enhance our communication channels. Our Year 7 Parent WhatsApp Group currently has 360 members and is often used in different ways by different parents. Some parents use this as a way to connect with other parents and to ask for advice. Other parents use this as their main/ sole place to find information which is available in other forms. We want to ensure we clearly and effectively communicate with you, as well as provide clear and timely avenues for feedback. If you would be interested in being part of the KGV Parent Group looking at communication, please email carole.beer@kgv.edu.hk. It would be amazing if we could have some Year 7 parents as part of this Parent Group.
Thanks and have a lovely weekend.
The Year 7 Team
We hope that all of our students made the most of their Challenge Week experiences and look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday morning. Please note that Monday 6th November is a staff training day and students should not attend school.
Wishing you a great weekend.
We hope all the Year 8 & 9 Students had an incredible Challenge Week.
Ask your child if they achieved the goals of Challenge Week, which were:
Make new friends
Challenge yourself
Show leadership
Support each other
Challenge Week was an opportunity to learn new things outside the classroom. Ask your child if they developed these competencies:
Creativity: Create or do something new, learn a new skill
Character: Show empathy and compassion for others.
Challenge: to persevere and go outside your comfort zone
Communication: Work closely together and make new friends
Collaboration: Contribute to a team
Critical thinking: Solve problems in new situations
Citizenship: Learn more about Hong Kong, culture, the environment or an interest that can be shared with others
Monday is a Staff Professional Development Day, and students should not attend school. We look forward to seeing our students on Tuesday, 7th November, in their winter uniform (with ties).
Have a great weekend.
Many Year 11 students were involved in language immersion activities this week. Some were local in Hong Kong and many were and still are overseas. I met the students back from Taiwan and Shanghai at the airport this afternoon. They were happy with their experience, had learned more Chinese language and had enjoyed each other's company.
Year 10 and some Year 11 students participated in a variety of Challenge Week activities. Please talk to your child about what they have learned this week. I visited many activities during the week and saw students exhibiting, engagement, leadership, perseverance, focus, collaboration, critical thinking, community-mindedness and friendship.
Please remember that Monday is a staff-only day. We look forward to seeing everyone back in school next Tuesday.
