Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
This week was another reminder of why KGV is such a special place. For anyone who has been fortunate to see the musical production of Elf, you will have witnessed a truly magical showcase of our talented student performers. The level of professionalism and stagecraft exhibited by everyone involved has been truly world class, and I would like to once again thank all staff involved in making the magic happen.
We are truly building the festive spirit as we move towards the end of term, with two further events next week. The Evening of Music and Dance will occur at 6 pm on Wednesday, representing months of hard work and preparation by all involved. EOMD is a cornerstone of our house competitions, and promises to be a wonderful occasion.
We would also like to invite you to our Winter Festival on Friday 8th December from 5 pm to 8 pm where you will be able to see our Winter concert, visit over 60 stalls and enjoy the wide variety of food on offer. We hope to see you there.
I would also like to remind you that Tuesday 5th December is our next Learning Review Day. Students should remain at home and they will be set work to complete between their appointments. A couple of other key dates to note are that on Monday 11th December all schools are closed in Hong Kong due to the local elections. Finally, our last day of term on Friday 15th December will be a half-day where we will finish at 12 pm.
Thank you for your continued support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
There are only two weeks to go before the end of a long term. We can tell that some students are starting to feel tired. At home, please ensure they are looking after themselves and asking for help if they need it. Please help them to stay warm as temperatures drop by wearing base layers underneath their school uniform and/or investing in warm outer layers like our school jersey, fleece, hoodie or jacket from the uniform shop.
Coming up next week we have learning reviews on Tuesday. Students stay home and work will be set by their teachers. Evening of Music and Dance is Wednesday night and we have the School Winter Fair on Friday night.
For Year 11 families, mock exams will run for two weeks and will start two weeks after the winter holiday break. The mock schedule will be published next week. You can see the dates for all of the April/May/June external GCSE exams here. The exact timings of these will be available later next term.
Congratulations to all of our Year 12 and 13 performers who took part in the outstanding production of Elf this week. We are extremely fortunate to have such talented students in our KGV community and we are sure that many will be treading the boards on Broadway, the West End and beyond!
Also, this week we hosted our Student Leadership Assemblies whereby our prospective House Captains presented to Crozier, Nightingale, Rowell and Upsdell houses in an attempt to secure as many votes as possible. Well done again to all of our candidates.
A reminder that our Learning Reviews continue on Tuesday 5th December.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Our Year 8 and 9 students have enjoyed the opportunity to attend Student Leadership House Assemblies this week with presentations from their prospective House Captains to secure as many votes as possible.
Congratulations to our Year 8 & 9 students who performed in the outstanding student production of "Elf The Musical"! The talented cast and crew delivered a magical performance, spreading holiday cheer with their incredible talent and dedication.

MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) Focus for our Parent Newsletter: Self-Management Skills - Relax: Exercise and Leisure
Participating in quality exercise, sports, and leisure activities helps your child develop a wide range of transferable skills that increase their ability to learn and enjoy life.
Concentration, determination and perseverance in exercise and sport lead to fitness and a mastery of a number of skills. Actively participating in team sports builds relationships through interaction and collaboration.
These activities can take many forms:
A brisk walk or run
Yoga, pilates or a gym workout
Playing sport
Trying a new activity, such as rock climbing
Whatever activity your child chooses to take up, it will have a positive impact on their wellbeing:
It is important to remember that they will only achieve the best of these benefits if they participate in activities regularly and frequently. They should aim to exercise for at least 30 minutes 3 to 4 times per week. If they can exercise every day, that is even better.
These activities are also a good opportunity for your child to spend quality time with friends, family or other members of their Team. Exercising with someone else will help them maintain a regular and frequent routine.
Be aware that many activities can become time-consuming, so they may need to find a sensible balance. This highlights the need for a well-managed Home Learning Timetable.
Additional Actions for Parents:
Ask your child what two things they will do to improve their active participation in exercise and leisure activities.
Have a great weekend.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
What a magical time we have had this week as our fantastic students, led by the wonderful Music and Drama Departments put on ELF The Musical! We were treated to 3 evening performances and this afternoon, our Year 7 students were invited to a special matinee performance! What a lovely way to end the week!
Next week we have another busy week with Evening of Music and Dance on Wednesday 6th December, 6 pm and KGV Winter Fair on Friday 8th December, 5 pm onwards. We hope you are able to join us at one of these community events, they are what make KGV the remarkable school it is!
Tuesday 5th December is the final Learning Review, where students will work at home and attend online meetings with their teachers and parents. The appointment system will close on Monday morning to allow teachers to prepare for these sessions.
As we get close to the end of term, students are showing real signs of tiredness. Please encourage them to rest up this weekend and finish the term strong!
Like every big organisation, ESF has a number of policies and guidelines in place to help ensure that we are working efficiently, effectively and are consistent in how we go about our business. You can now access a page within Lionel that allows you to view some of those policies – particularly the ones that are most relevant to you as an ESF parent. The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
All requests should be directed to careers.office@kgv.edu.hk. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.

RUGBY
The Hong Kong Schools Touch Tournament was held at Kings Park on 30th November and we had two U16 boys teams entered. Due to a scheduling error one of our teams was placed in the U20 grade and one in U16s. This was going to make for an interesting day. Both teams started the day well with wins but equally both teams lost their second game. The U20s group losing 2-1 to AISHK and the U16s group being beaten by a very good ICHK team. Both teams learnt from this and won their remaining pool games to finish second in their pools and make the semi finals.
The U16s team played a good TKW team and produced their best match of the day. It was a tight game with 1-1 being the full time score and the game going to extra time. Despite a couple of opportunities, we were unable to get on the board and TKW managed to sneak in for one try that would be the winner. The U16s regrouped and won their 3rd/4th play off convincingly with a few players getting their first tries ever!
The U20s also played TKW in their semi final. TKW were unbeaten through pool play and were a very strong team. This was our best game of the day as we scored some great tries and held them out in the final stages to clinch a 4-3 win and progress to the final against AISHK. Having played AISHK in the pool play we knew what they would do and how we needed to play. The boys played an amazing game once again and a double to Vincent Cheung ensured a well deserved 3-1 victory and crowned U20 champions.
It was a great day of touch and Mr Davidson and Mr Varty couldn’t have been more proud of the way the boys played and represented themselves and the school during the day. To win the U20s competition as an U16 team was very impressive and the boys across both teams should be extremely proud of their efforts. Both teams were led well by their captains Ollie Fisher (U20s) and Mason Wilkinson (U16s) and there were some strong performances by a number of boys.
We have distributed the Student photo prints and Student ID cards to all the tutors on 23 November and 30 November, respectively.
