Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
There has been a suitable festive atmosphere at KGV this week, and it was great to see so many of our community at the spectacular Winter Fair and Concert. A big thank you to the PTSA for their support of this event. I would also like to share my appreciation for Carol Mao's coordination of the Fair and to our ever wonderful music department for the outstanding concert.
Sports Day was also a great success, with the house spirit alive and well in what was an action packed and fun-filled occasion. Thank you to Xanthe Knight and the PE team for making this happen.
These events continue to reflect the many remarkable opportunities on offer to our community, and they could not happen without the dedication, expertise and professionalism of our staff. I am sure you would join me in saying a big thank you to each and every one of the KGV staff, who will now be looking forward to a well-deserved rest.
I hope your child has enjoyed this term and I am sure they are looking forward to the break over the next three weeks. Have a great festive season and we look forward to seeing the students when term 2 starts on Monday 8th January.
Best wishes,
Mark Poulsum
As we bid farewell to an eventful Term 1 filled with growth, learning, and remarkable achievements, we take a moment to reflect. The past term has been a testament to our students' hard work and determination. They have shown remarkable academic and personal growth, embracing challenges and striving for excellence. We commend their resilience, curiosity, and commitment to their education.
We would also like to express our heartfelt gratitude to our parent community. Your support, involvement, and partnership have played a vital role in our collective success.
We wish you and your loved ones a restful break and a joyous festive season. May this time be filled with warmth, laughter, and cherished memories. Take this opportunity to rejuvenate and spend quality time together.
We look forward to welcoming back our Year 8 & 9 students in 2024 as we embark upon a new term filled with exciting and fresh opportunities.
Year 8 & 9 Student Development Team
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We finished Term 1 in style with KGV Sports Day on Wednesday. Such a fantastic day of sportsmanship, House Spirit and enthusiasm. Year 7 students were incredible. Their resilience and energy right through to the end of term has been remarkable!
We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our parents and caregivers for their support during Term 1 as we have transitioned into KGV and grown strong as a community. We recognise there is still some work to do on our communication in general and we will continue to address the issues raised by you, but what is clear and steadfast is our joint care for your child, our student!
It is definitely time for a break, for students and parents alike. I think we should all make a commitment to step away from the Parent Whatsapp group for a couple of weeks and spend time fully with our friends and family.
Whatever your plans are over the Christmas period and holiday season, we hope you had lots of fun and are able to spend time together as a family. Be kind to one another and look after one another over the holiday and we will see you back on Monday 8th January, for Term 2 (week 1).
Merry Christmas to you all and best wishes for 2024.
The Year 7 Team
We farewell and send best wishes with our Head of Year 10, Ms MacDonald as she takes maternity leave from today. Ms Yuan will take over the role until the end of May and will provide care and attention for all our Year 10s.
Many assessment results will be available in the CCF now with more to follow soon after the break. Five weeks into next term we will produce a single page summary of all academic data and make this available to parents.
We hope that students will get some rest and take a break over the next three weeks. We recommend that a small amount of revision is done regularly so that students feel they are making progress and consolidate the learning they have done.
A reminder of the opportunity for students to join the Crimson Collective in January 2024. This 3-day in-person course will surely be an excellent opportunity for students keen to develop their leadership skills and learn from other successful young leaders. We have some places available for Year 10 students. Please see this PDF for more information.
Year 11 students should be working to a study schedule over the break. It is important that they get some rest and take time to eat, sleep and exercise to stay healthy. They should also be chipping away at their syllabus statements and consolidating the learning they have done this term. Everything they do now prepares them for their mock exams in January and takes pressure off their revision for the final exams.
You can see the schedule for the Year 11 mock exams here and see the schedule for the final external exams here.
Revision resources for each subject are available here
We published the term 1 grade summary for all Year 11 students last night. This collects all grade and assessment information from this term onto a single page. It may be useful to prompt conversations about study/revision goals. You can access it in the ESF App by tapping the Lionel button, then the CCF (ribbon) link. The term 1 summary is stored in the orange Progress Checks drawer. If you think there is a subject missing or an anomaly with a grade, please contact the teacher for that subject before or after the holiday break.
The Year 12 & 13 team would like to thank all of our students and parents for your support this term and extend our best wishes for a safe and peaceful Winter holiday.
The Year 13 IB Mock exam schedule is below.

School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
All requests should be directed to careers.office@kgv.edu.hk. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.
KGV Careers & H.E. Team
On Friday 1st December our KGV equestrian team competed at an inter-school mini meet. It was great to have an equestrian team back representing KGV and we achieved some strong results. In the dressage, Timothy Ngai placed in 5th position. In the show jumping we had a KGV 1, 2, 3 with Theo Lai taking out 1st place, Timothy Ngai in 2nd and Suie Tanaka in 3rd place. Fantastic results and it was a great event for those involved. The next competition is coming up in January so we look forward to seeing this team continue their strong efforts.
