Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Carers,
We have enjoyed a truly festive week at KGV, and it has been wonderful to see so many smiling happy faces as the students participated in a range of Lunar New Year activities. I would like to thank our fantastic Chinese team for helping us to celebrate in style.
It was also great to see the BTEC Business students organise a football tournament that brought students from Learning Enhancement Centres from across ESF together for this event. Their planning, organisation and communication was exceptional and ensured this event was a great success. A big thank you as well to the staff who helped to support the BTEC students as they developed their vocational skills.
Students across a range of year groups will be receiving their progress grades today, and this will provide an opportunity for them to reflect on their achievements since the start of the academic year. I would encourage you to have a conversation with your child so that they can reflect on their success, identify areas for further development and start to create focused targets as they move forward in their learning.
We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable Lunar New Year break, and we look forward to seeing the students when the next half-term starts on Tuesday 20th February.
Kung Hei Fat Choi!
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 10 students have had a number of assessments recently. Grades and progress so far this year are summarised in the semester 1 summary which was made available to parents today. You can find it in the ESF App > Lionel > CCF > Progress Checks
We hope that students and families have some quality time together over the break.
Year 11 students may be tired following their mocks and we hope that they get some rest over the Lunar New Year break. When we return students will be making their option choices for Year 12. They have previously made preliminary choices as an indication, but these will be cleared from the system and we will ask them to make their final choices. Please discuss course preferences for Year 12 with your child.
Following the break we will also be reflecting on their mock performance and setting clear goals for revision towards the final exams starting at the end of April. A mock report with detailed feedback from teachers will be published to you on February 27th.
KGV had an exciting festive week for the Lunar New Year, with students actively participating and enjoying various activities. The Chinese team's dedication and creativity created a memorable celebration, including performances, workshops, and beautiful decorations. They educated students about Lunar New Year traditions, fostering unity and respect among diverse backgrounds. The Chinese team's hard work and commitment made the celebration successful, creating a joyful and enriching experience for the school community.
Year 8 & 9 students have had several assessments recently. Grades and progress so far this year are summarised in the Semester 1 Summary, which will be made available to parents today. You can find it in the ESF App > Lionel > CCF > Progress Checks. I encourage you to have a conversation with your child so that they can reflect on their success, identify areas for further development and start to create focused targets as they move forward in their learning.
Approaches to learning (ATL) are skills designed to enable students in the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) to “learn how to learn.” They apply across curriculum requirements and provide a common language for teachers and students to use when reflecting and building on the learning process.
ATL skills can become a common language at home between parents and their children. Challenge your child to reflect on the “I CAN” statements in the attached document. Ask your child to reflect on their actions to render this statement valid after the CNY break.
We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable Lunar New Year break, and we look forward to seeing the students when the next half-term starts on Tuesday 20th February.

This is a reminder that the Lionel option system will re-open on Tuesday 20th February for Year 9 students to confirm their choices. They can:
Leave them if they are happy with their preliminary choices
Make any changes that they want remembering that they must have one language, one I & S subject, one Art/Technology based subject and a 4th subject from any of the the other three areas.
Please use the holiday to discuss final choices with your child and if you have any questions there is the week after the CNY break to get clarification.
The system will close at midnight on February 25th and this information will then be used to put together the timetable for next year.
We hope you have a thoroughly enjoyable Lunar New Year break, and we look forward to seeing the students when the next half-term starts on Tuesday 20th February.

School References
School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
To facilitate a smooth reference process, parents are suggested to contact the Careers Office (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) with a list of institutions and names of teachers nominated to write references. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.
