Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Throughout this week, we have been engaging with students to consider how they live the KGV values of Courage, Honesty and Empathy. This includes striving to be their genuine selves, learning from our mistakes and listening to understand others. Through living these values we believe this will enable our student community to bring positive approaches to their school life and beyond.
Such values are also captured in many of the events that we hold at KGV. On Friday, we celebrated International Women’s Day through a variety of engaging presentations and speeches. This provided the opportunity to inspire inclusion in our community as we strive towards a diverse and equitable world.
Next week will provide further opportunities to engage with the KGV Values through Kindness Week. The ability to demonstrate compassion, and develop mutual understanding and appreciation of each other, is ever more important. There will be a variety of engaging activities arranged to help students reflect and consider how they bring kindness into their daily actions.
We look forward to continuing to foster these positive values across our student community, and if you have the opportunity please ask your child what they have done this week to demonstrate Courage, Honesty and Empathy.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum

Over this week, we have actively encouraged our Year 8 & 9 students to reflect upon and embody the core values of Courage, Honesty, and Empathy at KGV. By embracing and living these values, we firmly believe that our student community will foster positive attitudes and approaches within the school environment and their lives beyond the campus.
Big applause to all the incredible individuals who have proudly represented our school in the HKSSF Athletics competition. Your dedication and hard work have been commendable, and we applaud your achievements. We are excited to get the results.
Well done to everyone who has supported their House in the recent Interhouse Volleyball and Table Tennis competitions.
Congratulations to Muchi Shi from 08U06, who played a piano piece by Chopin in our Year 8 & 9 Assembly this week.
This week, we witnessed a thrilling talent showcase as numerous students participated in the Interhouse Music Competition. It was heartening to see a tremendous turnout of students who weren't competing as they passionately cheered on and supported their respective houses in large numbers. MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) Focus for our Parent Newsletter: Social Skills - Falling Behind
Everyone goes through times when they feel overwhelmed and cannot cope.
When your child feels that things are not going well, please encourage them to seek help from their team.
They should not hesitate; these feelings won't just go away.
If they feel that their friends are good listeners and are there for them, they can tell them how they think and feel. Sometimes, their friends may be part of the problems, or they too may have their concerns to deal with. In these cases, your child needs to get a team member with more experience.
Let your child know that family and teachers always support them. They have the experience and skills to help them through any situation; if they don't, they will find someone to help them.
Please encourage your child to discuss their problems as soon as they develop. Sharing problems with their teams helps them to gain different perspectives and put strategies in place to stop them from becoming more serious or overwhelming. Their team’s support will make them feel more confident, and they can overcome their problems.
No matter how terrible your child believes the situation is, there will be multiple solutions to a positive outcome, and their team perspective will help them work through them.
Most importantly, they should never give up and lose face in their team support.
Parent Actions:
What are two things your child will do to stop from falling behind?
Year 11 students took part in Interhouse Music this week. It was amazing to see the talent on display. Next week is Kindness week and Maths week.
When your child completed their option choices, you will have received a confirmation email with a link to approve the choices. If you do approve, please click this link. If you do not approve, please discuss this with your child and if necessary their tutor.
Year 11 students have only four more weeks of school lessons. The last day of timetabled classes is Friday April 19th.
From that point, they only need to be in school for their exams. They are welcome to be in school during regular hours if they wish to use the LRC to study or want to get help from one of their teachers. Their classroom teachers will be available for help either in person or online during their regular class times. We will ask students to let their teachers know in advance if they will meet them.
Here is the list of all exams and the dates they will be held. I have shared this previously. A more detailed exam timetable with exact timings and venues will be available this month.
Year 10 students took part in Interhouse Music this week. It was amazing to see the talent on display.
Next week is Kindness and Maths week.
Year 10 students have finished a round of assessments recently and will be getting results back. It is important to help them see the feedback they receive as constructive and helpful. Assessments within the GCSE course are for feedback only and to help them revise and progress. Too many students talk to me about how high-stakes they feel the assessments are. Please help your child to realise they are not high-stakes and the grades are for information only at this stage.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We certainly finished the week in KGV style with the whole school community enjoying the highlights of this week's Inter-house Music competition. Crozier was the overall champion, but there were so many individual Year 7 singer and musician champions! Well done to all involved.
Challenge Week opened to Year 7 students and parents today. Please speak to your child about their choices.
Next week is Kindness week, with many activities designed to promote our school values of Honesty, Courage and Empathy.
Have a great weekend.
School References
School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
To facilitate a smooth reference process, parents are suggested to contact the Careers Office (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) with a list of institutions and names of teachers nominated to write references. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.

I would like to invite you to be part of a very exciting and worthwhile opportunity.
In collaboration with the Mekong Club Hong Kong and CNN in support of CNN’s Freedom Project (March 14th), we are inviting parents and students to take part in the ‘Freedom Day Sweatshop Challenge’, offering participants a taste of what it is like to experience a sweatshop situation and to raise awareness for the Mekong Club and it’s aim to reduce modern slavery across the globe.
We are looking to recruit a number of student/parent teams for this event and will allocate on a first-come first served basis. Please complete the following form to express an interest in the event. Signup Form

What is Eco Fair?
Eco Fair is an online inter-school case study research project hosted by the ESF Sustainability Alliance. In the competition, students will be investigating a case study and pitch what they think is the most sustainable and economically feasible solution. On the day of the competition, each group will be given 6 minutes to present their proposal via Zoom, followed by a 2-minute session with teachers and past competition winners asking follow-up questions pertaining to the groups' presentation.

Next week is Maths Week!
The week will be filled with events, activities and competitions to nurture a love of mathematics outside the classroom – you can see all the details on our LIONeL coursepage here: https://lionel2.kgv.edu.hk/course/view.php?id=3233 Alongside our beloved daily challenges such as Sudoku and Carl the Kangaroo’s Problem of the Day, we have two activities you may particularly enjoy doing with your child: 2024’s “2048” and the “Daily Wordle”.
An integral part of the week is the Interhouse Maths Competition, in which students participate in house teams in a maths relay to win points for their house towards the House Cup. These usually take place during one of their scheduled maths lessons in the week, and we’d appreciate your help in supporting your child to find their relay date, time and team mates at this link:

Note that students do not need to bring in their maths books when they have their relay, and if you’d like to go through the rules with your child you can find them on the LIONeL MathsWeek coursepage linked above.
Many thanks,

Next week is Maths Week at KGV! Alongside the numerous competitions and events open to all yeargroups, we are delighted to reinstate for the first time since 2018, two special events for Year 7s run in conjunction with KJS: the Maths Dress Up Day Competition and the Y6&7 “Measure Hunt”, both which take place on Pi Day (Thursday, March 14). The Maths Department would appreciate your support in ensuring your child understands and is prepared for these events as detailed below:
Maths Dress Up Day: Students wear their best mathematical attire rather than school uniform for the duration of Pi Day, excepting PE and Drama lessons where they will be expected in their usual kit. There are three prize categories: Best Dressed, Most Mathematical and Funniest/Punniest.
Year 6 & 7 “Measure Hunt”: Students will team up with KJS students to compete in a Maths Treasure Hunt around the KGV campus. This will be held during Periods 1 and 2 on Pi Day, which means they do not need to bring their materials for those classes that day.
Further details about these and other events can be found on the Maths Week page here, and we look forward to seeing your child’s most mathematical clothing creations!
