Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope this message finds you well. As we move into the Spring Break, it provides the opportunity for us to reflect on the successes of the last term and our aspirations moving forward. I would encourage all of your children to take the time to relax, refresh and consider their achievements that have given them a sense of pride. Whilst also thinking, “What’s my even better if?’
On a personal level, I am particularly appreciative of the warmth, care and kindness that shines through the KGV community. The messages of support and congratulations as I move into the permanent position as Principal of KGV mean so much to me. I am deeply invested in ESF and KGV, and it is a real privilege to have the opportunity and responsibility to build on the incredible strengths of the school. Our aim is to continue to provide the best possible experience in all aspects of learning, so all students can be their own remarkable.
We start term 3 on Tuesday 9th April, and please be reminded that we move into summer uniform. This means students do not need to wear ties.
Thank you for your ongoing support and I wish you and your family a wonderful Spring Break.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 11 Message
We celebrated the Year 11 prom with many students on Tuesday night. They seemed to enjoy the occasion and there was much laughter and joy.
Year 11 students have only two more weeks of lessons before their exam leave.
During exam leave, students can choose to work from home or use the LRC study areas at school. If they come to school, they can use their exam pass to arrive and leave at times that suit, however they are not to use it to go in and out of school during the day (going out for lunch for example).
The full and detailed exam timetable is available here.
A concise overview showing just the days is here.
We will share all the regulations and rules about exams after the break.
During exam leave if students wish to work with their teachers, they will be available during their normal timetabled lessons to meet in person or online. However, we ask that students give 24 hours notice so that they can plan their time and gather resources.
Please help your child to get into consistent study habits that include suitable breaks, some rewards and things they enjoy doing and ensure enough sleep, exercise and healthy food.
If you have concerns about stress or anxiety, please contact your child's tutor.
Year 10 Message
Thanks to Elena, Tom, Tharan, Georgio and Momoka for helping us this week with the process of interviewing and escorting the candidates for the KGV Principal position.
Students have had a short but busy term and I hope they enjoy the break before returning in April.
Two weeks into next term, our Year 11 students will go on study leave and Year 10 will have their tutors to themselves and will be the second most senior year level in school.
As always, try to seek a balance of rest, exercise, family time and fun alongside some regular revision. Small amounts of regular revision will pay off when mocks and final exams draw near in Year 11.
Year 12 & 13 Message
It has been an emotional week for our Year 13 students, with this being their last full week of normal timetabled lessons.
Our Year 12 students are role-models for the rest of our school community and exemplify the behaviours and high standards for our younger students in school. We therefore ask that everyone please keeps their mobile phone in their bags during the school day from 7.45 am to 3.20 pm. Senior students are permitted to use their phones in the Senior School Common area and we ask that you use your phone responsibly in this area.
Wishing you a great holiday.
Congratulations to our Year 7- 9 Student Council Representatives who spoke in the Year 8 & 9 assembly on Wednesday about their initiatives to improve the student experience at KGV. Student voice in assemblies empowers, builds community, improves decision-making, and encourages leadership, creating an inclusive school environment.
Congratulations to all C-grade athletes who recently participated in the HKSSF athletics championships:
Congratulations to Cwen Chan for coming 1st in the Action Asia, Goodman, Healthy Hike and Run 2024, 5K run (all ages).
After a productive Term 2, it is time for our students to have a good holiday break. Self-management is the MYP ATL (Approaches to Learning) skill linked to having a break. Taking a break requires students to effectively manage their time, prioritise their wellbeing, and make intentional choices about how they use their leisure time. It involves setting boundaries, recognising the need for rest and rejuvenation, and balancing responsibilities with relaxation. By practising self-management during a break, students develop time management, self-awareness, and stress management skills, essential for maintaining a healthy work-life balance and overall wellbeing.
Just so you know, after Spring Break, students will not need to wear ties.
We wish your child a good Spring break, and we look forward to seeing them at the start of Term 2 on Tuesday, 9 April.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
The Year 7s are fully deserving of a break over the next two weeks. Term 2 was packed with activities which many of our Year 7s have embraced, from Inter-House Music to today's Wear a Hat Day! The Year 7 team has been so proud of our students and enjoyed seeing them fully immersed in KGV life.
Term 3 starts on 9th April, with students wearing their summer uniform....essentially the same uniform, just minus the tie.
We hope you get the opportunity to spend some quality time as a family and we look forward to working with you again in Term 3.
Enjoy the Spring Break and Happy Easter!
We would like to extend our sincere gratitude to our PTSA for organising an amazing Staff appreciation lunch for all the staff at KGV! They gave us not just a lunch but a “feast”! Delicious cuisines from all over and our staff indulged in the variety of food choices.
Special “thanks” to Isabelle Tong, Karen Chung, Teresa Tse, Shweta Dugar, Florian Schnieder and Paul Chan – who helped from preparing to cleaning up on the day of the event. You have made our staff felt “appreciated”!

Our Remarkable Story: Jeffrey Chan [13N23]
Congratulations to Jeffrey on his remarkable achievement in COMAP'S High School Mathematical Contest in Modeling (HiMCM). His solution to the presented problem, titled "Modeling Ecological Dynamics: Analyzing the Spread and Impact of Dandelions and Invasive Species", earned a Meritorious Award, the third highest category of recognition. This is particularly impressive given he worked as a team of 1 amongst 967 teams of up to four students each, from 417 schools across 18 countries/regions. Well done Jeffrey!
Our Remarkable Story: CEMC Canadian Senior and Intermediate Mathematics Contests

The UKMT Junior Mathematical Challenge (JMC) is a 60-minute, 25 multiple choice question Challenge that encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency to make students think. The problems on the JMC are accessible yet still challenge those with more experience – past papers may be viewed here: https://ukmt.org.uk/current-past-papers/jsf/jet-engine:free-past-papers/tax/challenge-type:67/#free-past-paper-anchor
It is open to all students in Years 7 and 8.
This Challenge will take place after school on Friday, 26th April and should finish around 5 pm. The entry fee is $230 HKD, which parents will be invoiced for through our school’s ePayment system. Detailed logistical information will be sent to participants around 1 week prior to the Challenge date.
All students receive a certificate of participation. To recognise the highest performers in the Challenge, the top-scoring participants are awarded Bronze, Silver and Gold certificates. Students that are 'Best in Year' or 'Best in School' also receive a badge to denote this on their certificates.
If your child wishes to take part, please have them sign up through the Activities page on LIONeL by the 3rd April 2024 deadline, and provide parental approval in LIONeL by the 4th April 2024 deadline.

School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
To facilitate a smooth reference process, parents are suggested to contact the Careers Office (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) with a list of institutions and names of teachers nominated to write references. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.

Parents’ Support for KGV Careers Fair and Careers Exposure
The Careers Office organises various opportunities for our students to explore careers options. The annual September Careers Fair and various work experiences are some of them. These could not have happened without our wonderful parent’s support. We are hoping to introduce more opportunities for our students.
For parents who would like to collaborate with KGV, please take two minutes to complete this form here. Our team will get in touch with you to discuss further the opportunities that you may bring to community.
We really appreciate your support. Thank you!
Year 13
- Easter break. We hope they can use the Easter break to recharge and get ready for Term 3. Best wishes!
- Universities have started sending out offers. Students are most welcome to chat with their HE Counsellors any time.
- If students plan to take a gap year or apply to Australia after graduation, we would appreciate it if they can inform their HE Counsellors about their plans so that we can support them when it’s time for them to make their applications.
- Exit presentation. We presented to students various procedures highlighting important action points in preparation for their post-KGV paths. We will be doing a similar presentation for parents in May.
- IBO Result Service. It is a service provided by IB to send final results directly to the institution(s) students have chosen. Students are briefed about the procedures. Students have until 24 May 2024 to complete the request coordinated by the KGV Exam Office.
Year 12
- Google Classrooms. Our HE Team has set up Google Classrooms for Y12 students for communication on higher education issues.
- Y12s’ 1-to-1 meeting with their HE Counsellors. The meetings are going on well. Students should have received email with their individual appointments.
- Y12 H.E. presentation series. Presentations started during Consolidation Week. More presentation topics are scheduled weekly during lunch break in Term 3. Students have received the presentation schedule via Google Classroom
