Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week brought a key milestone for the academic year, as the Year 13 students started their study leave on Wednesday. This occasion reflected many of the wonderful characteristics of KGV as the students reminisced on the past seven years, whilst demonstrating the strong bond and camaraderie that exists in our graduating class. The warmth that exists across the student and staff community was also on show during the ‘Honour Walk’ along the front drive, creating an uplifting and memorable moment for all of the Class of 2024. We wish them every success over the next few weeks as the IBDP students prepare for their exams, and the BTEC students finalise their coursework.
It has also been fantastic to see the rest of the student community return to school in such a buoyant and vibrant mood. With plenty of smiles and positivity, they have quickly settled back into their healthy habits and routines. We are looking forward to all members of our community enjoying what I am sure will be a productive and successful third term.
Have a good weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 12 & 13 Message
We have had another very important and momentous week in the Senior School. On behalf of the KGV Year 12 & 13 team, we would like to congratulate our Year 13 students on their exemplary behaviour shown throughout their final days. It has been an absolute pleasure to have been part of their celebrations and we wish everyone continued success in the coming weeks.
Our Year 12 students are now the most senior students at KGV and as role-models to our younger students we ask for your continued cooperation and leadership in modelling our values around attendance, punctuality, uniform and our Disconnect to Reconnect policy regarding mobile phone usage.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Welcome Back, Families!
We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and your child is coming back refreshed and recharged as we kick off Term 3. It's been a productive week as everyone is getting back into the swing of routines. We're excited to return to school and engage in lessons and activities together. It's been a joy to see everyone back in action.
Disconnect to Reconnect: Just a friendly reminder that our "Disconnect to Reconnect" policy is in full effect from 7.45 am to 3.20 pm daily. Let's focus on building connections with each other without distractions.
Uniform Update: We have shifted to our summer uniform as the weather warms. Please ensure students are dressed accordingly.
Punctuality Matters: All students should be signed in by 8.10 am. I would greatly appreciate your cooperation in ensuring punctuality.
MYP Approaches to Learning (ATL) Focus for our Parent Newsletter: Communication Skills & Digital Communication
As we navigate the school year, we want to share valuable advice you can implement at home on two crucial aspects - developing communication skills and reducing digital communication in young people's lives.
Developing Communication Skills:
Encourage Open Communication: Create a welcoming environment where all family members feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. Practice active listening, empathy, and constructive dialogue.
Lead by Example: Show your children effective communication by modelling it in your interactions. Teach them to express themselves clearly, listen actively, and resolve conflicts peacefully.
Practice Makes Perfect: Encourage participation in activities that enhance communication skills, such as clubs, group projects, or public speaking. Support extracurricular involvement to foster communication development.
Offer Feedback: Provide specific and constructive feedback to help improve communication skills. Encourage self-reflection and guide them on areas of growth.
Reducing Digital Communication:
Establish Technology Boundaries: Set clear rules on screen time and digital usage. Designate tech-free times and areas, like during family meals or in bedrooms, to promote healthy boundaries.
Face-to-face interactions: Encourage in-person socialising with friends and family through activities like game nights, outdoor outings, and community events. Participation in group activities strengthens in-person connections.
Promote Offline Activities: Encourage engaging in offline activities like hobbies, sports, reading, and outdoor adventures to stimulate creativity and social interaction.
Digital Literacy: Teach children about responsible online behaviour, digital balance, and online privacy. Emphasise the importance of managing screen time and practising good online etiquette.
Parent Actions: Ask your child what two things they will start doing to improve their communication skills and reduce digital communication.
Let's work together to foster well-rounded communication skills in our students and guide them towards a healthy technology relationship. Together, we can create a positive learning environment for all students.
Here's to a fantastic Term 3 ahead!
The last day of formal lessons is next Friday 19th April. This will be a normal day at school with classes from period 1 to 5. We want to make the most of time for students to be with their teachers.
Exam leave starts from Monday 22nd April. During exam leave, students can study from home or can come in to school to study here. They must be in uniform and must sign in at the front office.
Teachers are available to help via email at any time and are available during timetabled periods so long as students have contacted them ahead of time to ask to meet either online or in person.
Please help your child to get organised for the exams so they have reminders and all equipment ready and arrive at school with 20 minutes to spare.
We held an assembly this week where we discussed how to be a community and how to be supportive and work to help each other. We discussed exam preparation, procrastination and study techniques.
Year 11 students have one more week before they leave to begin exams. At that point Year 10 will be the second most senior students in the school.
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome to Term 3. Students have 11 school weeks left until the end of their first year at KGV! We want them to end the year strong and ready to tackle the opportunities and challenges of Year 8.
Please can you help us to reinforce the following;
Next week we will be holding our first Challenge Week meeting, looking ahead to November's activities. Students will meet the trip leader of their chosen activity on Wednesday at tutor time.
We are also soon to start working with our students to look at the history behind the origins of some common 'slurs' we hear students using around the campus. We want to ensure they know the meanings behind the words they use and understand why these words cause upset amongst other members of the community. We will involve you in this project and work together to support your child, our student.
Have a great weekend.

School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
To facilitate a smooth reference process, parents are suggested to contact the Careers Office (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) with a list of institutions and names of teachers nominated to write references. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.

Parents’ Support for KGV Careers Fair and Careers Exposure
The Careers Office organises various opportunities for our students to explore careers options. The annual September Careers Fair and various work experiences are some of them. These could not have happened without our wonderful parent’s support. We are hoping to introduce more opportunities for our students.
For parents who would like to collaborate with KGV, please take two minutes to complete this form here. Our team will get in touch with you to discuss further the opportunities that you may bring to community.
We really appreciate your support. Thank you!
Year 13
We had an emotional send-off on 10 April when our Year 13 students officially had their last day of lessons. We send our best wishes to the IB students with their upcoming exams, and to our BTEC students in mastering remainder of their coursework.
- Universities have started sending out offers. Students are most welcome to chat with their HE Counsellors any time.
- If students plan to take a gap year or apply to Australia after graduation, we would appreciate it if they can inform their HE Counsellors about their plans so that we can support them when it’s time for them to make their applications.
- Exit presentation for parents on 2 May, 6.00 pm. We presented to students various procedures highlighting important action points in preparation for their post-KGV paths. We believe parents should be informed, too. Please mark your calendar for 6.00 pm on 2 May, Thursday. A Zoom link will be sent to all Year 13 parents before that.
- IBO Result Service. It is a service provided by IB to send final results directly to the institution(s) students have chosen. Students are briefed about the procedures. Students have until 24 May 2024 to complete the request coordinated by the KGV Exam Office.
Year 12
- Google Classrooms. Our HE Team has set up Google Classrooms for Y12 students for communication on higher education issues.
- Y12s’ 1-to-1 meeting with their HE Counsellors. Meetings have resumed since our return from the term break.
