Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As part of our key values, we encourage all students to be courageous as they look for opportunities to challenge themselves. This will certainly be evident across a number of events that will be happening next week.
Our Year 9 students will be taking action as they bring their Community Projects to life as part of our commitment to service learning through the MYP. We will also enjoy the Summer Concert on Tuesday, which will provide a wonderful showcase for our talented musicians. Thursday also brings our Graduation Ceremony for our Y13 students, and I am sure this will be a truly special occasion where the Class of 2024 share memories of their time at KGV whilst looking ahead to an exciting future. We will also welcome future Year 7 students to KGV on Friday, as part of our transition process.
Each of these events will bring their own challenges and opportunities for the students, and I am sure they will continue to fully embrace them with the positivity and courage that runs through the student community. Our remarkable staff will continue to ensure the best possible experience for all students, and I know their work is appreciated throughout the community.
We look forward to next week with excitement, and I am sure many magical memories will be made. Have a wonderful weekend ahead and thank you for your ongoing support.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
This has been a very busy week of exams and many students were here until 8.30 pm last night. We are through the majority of exams now.
Next week, there are no exams, so students may wish to give themselves some time to relax and focus on getting sleep and exercise as they prepare for Maths on Monday 3rd June .
On Thursday we held an assembly focussed on using language that is inclusive and helping students understand that some language is discriminatory and hurtful. Our goal is that all members of our community use language thoughtfully and are aware of the meaning behind and impact of certain slurs. Please talk to your child about what they learned this week.
We have 5 weeks remaining this year. Next week, we will see our summer concert with many of our Year 10 students performing.
We are very much looking forward to our Year 13 Graduation Ceremony next Thursday 30th May at 6 pm in our hall and our Graduation dinner next Friday 31st May at Hotel Icon in TST from 5.30 pm.
A reminder for Year 13 students to please collect your tickets from Ms Shum in the Year 13 office.
Please see below the event rundown for our annual Year 13 KGV Graduation Ball, held this year in Hotel Icon on Friday 31st May. Parents are invited to a Welcome reception from 5.30 pm with the meal being served for our students in the Silverbox ballroom from 7 pm. Please note that the event will finish at 11 pm.

Transition Day is just around the corner, scheduled for next Friday 31st May. It will be an exciting day as we welcome the new Year 8 & 9 students to our KGV school community. On this day, students in Year 7 and Year 9 will spend their tutor time with their new tutor classes for Year 8 and Year 10. During tutor time, the focus will be on getting to know the new tutees and introducing them to their fellow students. It will be a time of connection, building new friendships, and making everyone feel welcome and supported in their new tutor group.
Exciting times are ahead for Community Project Action Week! Sending a big shout-out and best wishes to all our Year 9 students as they embark on this meaningful endeavour. We look forward to the many great examples of service-based learning in action. Seeing our Year 9s stepping up and engaging in projects that bring about change is inspiring for our Year 8s who will undertake their Community Projects next year. Remember, every action, no matter how small, has the potential to create a ripple effect of goodness in our community.
For our Year 8 & 9 students, balancing academic pursuits and personal wellbeing is highly valued. Understanding that a healthy and balanced lifestyle positively impacts your overall performance, engagement, and enjoyment of the MYP journey is crucial. With this in mind, we strongly encourage you to spend quality time with your child over the weekend, engaging in diverse activities that take them away from academics, limit device usage, and foster their wellbeing and personal growth. The time you spend with your child sets the foundation for a healthy parent-child relationship and contributes significantly to a child's development and happiness.
Have a great weekend!
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week students spoke to their Creative Arts teachers about their options for Year 8. Students will be working with their tutors next week to confirm option choices in LIONEL. Please make sure you have spoken to your child about their Creative Arts options ahead of Monday.
Tuesday is our Summer Concert, 6pm in the School Hall. We are looking forward to seeing and hearing the many talents of our Year 7 students,
Next Friday is ESF Transition Day, when we will be welcoming Year 6 students into KGV. All Year 7 students will be acting as Parent Guides on the day, helping new students and their parents navigate the KGV campus.
Year 7 students will also be meeting their Year 8 tutors on Friday.
Have a good weekend.

School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parents must give KGV their permission to release their child’s reference to a specific list of schools they are applying to. KGV only liaise directly with those schools with parents' permission.
To facilitate a smooth reference process, parents are suggested to contact the Careers Office (careers.office@kgv.edu.hk) with a list of institutions and names of teachers nominated to write references. Please allow at least 4-6 working weeks for teachers to work on school references. School references for higher education applications are done in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.

Year 13
We can’t wait to see our graduating cohort at the Graduation Ceremony on 30 May, celebrating their achievements!
- IBO Result Service. It is a service provided by IB to send final results directly to the institution(s) students have chosen. Students are briefed about the procedures. Students have until 24 May 2024 to complete the request coordinated by the KGV Exam Office. It is necessary for IB students to sign up to this service so that their final IB results will be delivered directly by IBO to the higher institutions as soon as results are released. This ensures no delay in securing offers.
- Universities have started sending out offers. Students are most welcome to chat with their HE Counsellors any time.
- If students plan to take a gap year or apply to Australia after graduation, we would appreciate it if they can inform their HE Counsellors about their plans so that we can support them when it’s time for them to make their applications.
Year 12
- Google Classrooms. Our HE Team has set up Google Classrooms for Y12 students for communication on higher education issues.
- Y12s’ 1-to-1 meeting with their HE Counsellors. Those students who have yet to do the 1-to-1 meeting should reach out to their HE Counsellors at the soonest.
- Y12 H.E. presentation series. We have done presentations on H.E. Refresher, Unifrog, Personal Statement, UK Applications, Advanced Unifrog, HK Applications, Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry & Vet Med, USA Applications and USA Personal Essays so far. Other upcoming presentations will cover these topics: Canada Applications (29 May), Non-mainstream destinations (5 Jun), UCAS Setup (12 Jun), and Summer Action Plan (19 Jun). Students have received the presentation schedule via Google Classroom.
Parents’ Support for KGV Careers Fair and Careers Exposure
The Careers Office organises various opportunities for our students to explore careers options. The annual September Careers Fair and various work experiences are some of them. These could not have happened without our wonderful parent’s support. We are hoping to introduce more opportunities for our students.
For parents who would like to collaborate with KGV, please take two minutes to complete this form here. Our team will get in touch with you to discuss further the opportunities that you may bring to community.
We truly appreciate your support. Thank you!

Join us in celebrating student creativity at our upcoming ESF Art Exhibition
Colourful murals, imaginative sculptures and heartwarming portraits - these are just some of the amazing student creations featured in our ESF Art Exhibition 2024, which takes place at the prestigious arts venue Hong Kong City Hall in Central from 29 May until 2 June. This year’s theme - Faster, Higher, Stronger - was inspired by the upcoming Paris Olympics and is all about humans and their extraordinary power to achieve and strive to be the best they can be. Across ESF, hundreds of our students from K1 to Year 13 have been hugely inspired and have created an outstanding collection of artwork spanning painting, digital art, photography, mixed media and more. The venue address is Exhibition Hall, Hong Kong City Hall, 5 Edinburgh Place, Central. The exhibition runs from 29 May until 2 June (10 am until 7 pm from 29 May - 1 June), and 10 am until 4 pm on 2 June. For more information, call 2574 2351. Please do join us for this wonderful celebration of our students’ creativity and talent.
