Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This has certainly been an all action week at KGV. Starting with the success of our Media students who swept the board at the Film Stylo awards, to the extraordinary Summer Concert on Tuesday and onto the outstanding Y11 Art Exhibition. We also enjoyed the reflections and celebrations that came with the Y13 Graduation Ceremony on Thursday, and looked forward as our future Year 7 students joined us on Friday as part of ESF transition day.
Throughout each of these events our students continue to shine with their positivity and desire to be the best they can be. Not only are they aspirational, but they truly live the values of courage, honesty and empathy as part of the KGV community. This can only be achieved with the dedication, expertise and professionalism of our staff, and the enduring care and support of our parent community. Thank you for your contribution that helps make KGV a truly remarkable community.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark
Despite having no exams this week we have seen many of our Year 11 students in school studying in the LRC and playing or singing in the Summer concert and Graduation ceremonies.
Next week, all students have Maths on Monday and there are many other exams during the week.
Today we welcome back our Head of Year 10, Ms McDonald from maternity leave and say a big thank you to Ms Yuan for stepping in since January and supporting our Year 10 students so well.
We are in the middle of our tutor group competition with table tennis, quiz scores on the boards and more on the way.
Students are preparing for a Maths assessment next week and their Current Attainment Grades are being updated before the end of term. Parents will receive a written report and updated grades in the last week of term.
We wish all of our Year 12 students sitting assessments next week the very best of luck!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Our amazing Year 7 students have been out in force this week, demonstrating their talents, maturity and skills. On Tuesday, there were large numbers of Year 7 students represented in the Junior Choir as we were treated to an evening of music in our KGV Summer Concert. Well done to all involved.
Today, we had all Year 7 students acting as parent tour guides, as we welcomed our next cohort of students about to embark on their KGV journey. 300 Year 6 students and their parents attended our KGV Transition Day, and we were so proud of all our Year 7 students who confidently and competently engaged parents in conversations as they led them around the school.
Tutors have worked with students this week to make sure their Year 8 Creative Art Options are locked into LIONEL. Thank you for your support at home with this through your conservations.
Have a great weekend.
The Year 7 Team.
Congratulations to Sammi Lee from 08C06 and PJ Leung from 08R12 for their fantastic performance of ‘All I Want’ by Olivia Rodrigues in our recent Assembly. They truly impressed us all!
In our Assembly, Mr Tranter spoke to the students about the importance of being an upstander in our community. Our Year 8 & 9 students must understand the difference between ‘snitching’ and ‘reporting’ to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone and to uphold our KGV Values of Honesty, Courage and Empathy. Please take a moment to discuss this with your child to reinforce these critical values.
Using names like 'snitch' can make people scared to report things, and that's not good. When someone reports something to ensure everyone is safe, that’s good! They're not being a snitch because they're helping their community, friends, and family stay safe. By reporting, they're making the KGV community a better and safer place for everyone.
Snitching vs. Reporting: Let's simplify it:
Snitching: Done to cause harm or seek revenge.
Reporting: Done to bring justice, keep everyone safe, and ensure rules are followed. A genuine concern for others drives it.
We want to celebrate the talented students who participated in the KGV Music Department Summer Music Concert on Tuesday night. A special shoutout to the Year 8 & 9 students who performed in the Junior Orchestra, Junior Choir, and Jazz Band. Well done!
Have a great weekend.

Great job to everyone involved in the Community Project activities this week. The Community Project Reflection Day for students is next Wednesday, 5 June. We are working on the Year 9 MYP Community Project Assessment and Exhibition and Year 9 Graduation Ceremony for students, teachers and parents. Please save the date in your calendars for the afternoon of 17 June 2024, 3.30 pm - 5.30 pm. We are excited to share more information about this event with the broader community soon.
Trip to Ocean Park
Thank you to everyone for paying for the Ocean Park trip, which is now confirmed for Monday, 24th June. Please be reminded of the following key details:
All students are expected to wear their school PE shirt for the day. Sensible shoes should be worn as they will be on their feet all day, and appropriate shorts/trousers/skirts.
Students should have their KGV student ID card in case this is required to enter the Park.
Students will arrive at school as normal on Monday and go to the School Hall at 08:15, where they will be registered and put into bus groups, and we will go over the itinerary for the day.
When we arrive at Ocean Park, students wait outside while tickets are collected and distributed. On entering the park, they will register to confirm entry, and then they are free to explore the park in their groups. There will be two check-ins with staff during the day.
Students should bring lunch, a water bottle, or sufficient money to buy what they need at the Park.
Please remember the weather and dress appropriately with a hat and sunscreen.
Students will leave the park at 4 pm according to the arrangements parents have signed for on the reply slip. We cannot change any arrangements on the day, so please ensure you are clear on whether your child will be returning to KGV on a bus or making their way home from Ocean Park. The deadline for requesting changes to these arrangements is Monday, 17th June.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Mr Tranter (ashley.tranter@kgv.edu.hk) or Ms Pang (olivia.pang@kgv.edu.hk).
Have a great weekend.

Year 13
We were so happy to see our graduating cohort at the Graduation Ceremony last night, celebrating their achievements! Congratulations, KGV Class of 2024, on your graduation. Best wishes to a bright future to infinity and beyond!
- IBO Result Service. It is a service provided by IB to send final results directly to the institution(s) students have chosen. It is necessary for IB students to sign up to this service so that their final IB results will be delivered directly by IBO to the higher institutions as soon as results are released. This ensures no delay in securing offers. Deadline to make a request via our Exam Office was 24 May 2024. If students have missed this deadline, they should get in touch with the Exam Office <exam@kgv.edu.hk> immediately.
- If students plan to take a gap year or apply to Australia after graduation, we would appreciate it if they can inform their HE Counsellors about their plans so that we can support them when it’s time for them to make their applications.
Year 12
- Google Classrooms. Our HE Team has set up Google Classrooms for Y12 students for communication on higher education issues.
- Y12s’ 1-to-1 meeting with their HE Counsellors. Those students who have yet to do the 1-to-1 meeting should reach out to their HE Counsellors at the soonest.
- Y12 H.E. presentation series. We have done presentations on H.E. Refresher, Unifrog, Personal Statement, UK Applications, Advanced Unifrog, HK Applications, Oxbridge, Medicine, Dentistry & Vet Med, USA Applications, USA Personal Essays and Canada Applications so far. Other upcoming presentations will cover these topics: Non-mainstream destinations (5 Jun), UCAS Setup (12 Jun), and Summer Action Plan (19 Jun). Students have received the presentation schedule via Google Classroom.
Parents’ Support for KGV Careers Fair and Careers Exposure
The Careers Office organises various opportunities for our students to explore careers options. The annual September Careers Fair and various work experiences are some of them. These could not have happened without our wonderful parent’s support. We are hoping to introduce more opportunities for our students.
For parents who would like to collaborate with KGV, please take two minutes to complete this form here. Our team will get in touch with you to discuss further the opportunities that you may bring to community.
We truly appreciate your support. Thank you!
