Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer break. We are looking forward to welcoming your child back for what I am sure will be an exciting year ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a few key pieces of information ahead of the start of the academic year:
Start of Term Arrangements
Wednesday 14th August - Y7, 12 and 13 return to school for an induction and transition day. This will also include any students new to KGV
Thursday 15th August - All year groups return to school.
Specific information for the start of term will be shared with each year level.
Timetables - these are now available on LIONeL and parents can view them through the ESF App. If your child spots any particular issues, they should contact the relevant curriculum coordinator.
Students arriving at school by car - there will be slightly different arrangements if your child arrives at school by car. There are ongoing renovations at JCSRS, including the development of a new visitor entrance facing the front drive. As a result, KGV students who arrive by car will need to be dropped off by the GLT. In the first few days of term, staff will be positioned to guide you towards the appropriate drop-off point. I would also recommend planning a few more minutes of travel time as we get used to this change of system.
Healthy Learning Habits
I believe that quickly establishing effective habits and routines is one of the keys to success. As students settle into the new academic year, we will be encouraging them to make a positive start by:
Arriving at school before 8.10am, swiping in using their Octopus cards and being prompt to lessons.
Ensuring they have the relevant learning materials needed for each lesson.
Keeping their mobile devices in their bags from 7.45am to 3.20pm.
Wearing their uniform with the pride that comes with being a KGV student.
Using their planners and calendars to organise their learning.
By taking care of these key points, each student will be creating a strong foundation for a successful year ahead.
With the 130th Anniversary of KGV and our 100th Speech Night, the 2024/25 academic year promises to be a memorable one. There will be many opportunities to celebrate and appreciate everything that makes KGV such a remarkable school, and we will be sharing more details of these plans in the coming weeks.
Have a great weekend ahead and we look forward to the students returning next week.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
I hope you have had a good break and been able to spend time together over the summer.
