Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
It has been a wonderfully vibrant start to the academic year at KGV. The students have approached the first few days with a bounce in their step and a smile on their face. There is a real sense of positivity around the school. It has been great to hear stories from the summer, and even better to see the joy that comes from students reconnecting with their friends.
It is these strong connections and sense of belonging to KGV that we will continue to develop throughout the year. This week, the teachers have been paying particular attention to getting to know their students well so they can provide the best possible conditions for learning. We will continue to develop this work as part of our commitment to ensuring that all students are ‘Known, Heard, Safe and Successful.’
I also recognise the importance of continuing to develop strong relationships with our parent community. We are planning a range of opportunities for parents to visit KGV to gain insights to their child’s learning experiences at KGV, and to engage in various workshops. This will start with an ‘Open Day’ on the afternoon of Monday 2nd September and more information soon
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 8 & 9 Message
The beginning of the school year at KGV has brought a lively atmosphere as students reconnect with friends and form new bonds. Two days of engaging lessons have sparked curiosity and creativity, encouraging students to dive into their studies enthusiastically. This renewed energy sets a positive tone for the year, making it an exciting time for KGV!
At the start of the new school year, here are some ways you can support your child:
Reconnect with Friends: Encourage your child to reach out to friends they haven’t seen over the summer. This can help boost their confidence and excitement for the year ahead.
Welcome New Classmates: Talk to your child about being open to new classmates. Discuss the importance of kindness and inclusivity, making everyone feel welcome.
Meet New KGV Staff: Prepare your child for meeting new KGV staff members. Encourage them to ask questions and engage with their teachers and KGV staff to build positive relationships.
Establish a Routine: Work together to create a balanced daily routine. Include time for homework, activities, and relaxation to set a positive tone for the year.
Check Supplies: Ensure your child has all the necessary supplies ready each evening, including uniform, stationary, books, and MYP Journal. Being organised can help reduce anxiety and allow them to focus on their studies.
Get involved: Look at the available CAS activities and choose ones that spark interest, as they provide unique opportunities to engage with peers while developing new skills and positively impacting the community.
By taking these steps, you can help your child start the academic year with confidence and enthusiasm!
For the academic year 2024-25, we have designed a new MYP Journal that students would use to reflect on their skill development. The MYP Journal will be a compulsory piece of equipment that needs to be taken to every lesson and engaged with every week. Tutors and Teachers will encourage students to make use of the Journal as a reflective tool as well as an organisational tool.
We request all Year 8/9 students to purchase the MYP Journal from the KGV Shop (If they still need to do so) by the 23rd of August. The cost of the journal is $38.
We also ask parents to support and encourage using the MYP Journal at home as this will help students with their organisational skills throughout the year.
Have a great weekend.
Year 7 Message
The beginning of the school year at KGV has created a lively atmosphere as Year 7 students reconnect with friends and form new bonds. Engaging lessons and activities across subjects have sparked curiosity and creativity, encouraging students to dive enthusiastically into their studies. This renewed energy sets a positive tone for the year, making it an exciting time for KGV!
As Parents of new Year 7 Students, here are some ways you can support your child:
Reconnect with Friends: Encourage your child to contact friends they haven’t seen over the summer. This can boost their confidence and excitement for the year ahead.
Welcome New Classmates: Talk to your child about being open to new classmates. Discuss the importance of kindness and inclusivity to help everyone feel welcome.
Meet KGV Staff: Prepare your child for meeting KGV Staff. Encourage them to ask questions and engage with their teachers and KGV Staff to build positive relationships.
Establish a Routine: Work together to create a balanced daily routine that includes time for homework, activities, and relaxation, setting a positive tone for the year.
Check Supplies: Ensure your child has all necessary supplies ready each evening, including their uniform, stationery, books, and MYP Journal. Staying organised can reduce anxiety and help them focus on their studies.
Get Involved: Explore the available CAS activities and choose ones that spark your child’s interest. These opportunities allow them to engage with peers while developing new skills and positively impacting the community.
By taking these steps, you can help your child confidently and enthusiastically start the academic year at KGV!

The MYP Journal will be a compulsory piece of equipment that needs to be taken to every lesson and engaged with every week. We also ask parents to support and promote using the MYP Journal at home, as this will help students with their organisational skills throughout the year.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend with your family!
Year 12 & 13 Message
It was wonderful to welcome our Year 12 and 13 students back to school this week. Our students displayed great energy and enthusiasm and were fully engaged with their Induction Day on Wednesday. We hope that they gained some valuable information and ideas after working with the NGOs and Higher Education teams throughout the day. We are very much looking forward to working with our Year 12 & 13 students and supporting them in the year ahead.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Year 10 & 11 Message
Welcome to our new Year 10 families. It was great to see all the students in Years 10 and 11 back at school on Thursday. There has been a buzz of excitement and busyness.
Welcome, in particular, to the 9 families that are joining KGV in Year 10; we hope your child feels comfortable and welcome.
Please encourage your child to get into good work habits from day one. They should be completing all homework set and doing some revision on top of this. It doesn't have to be a lot of revision, just regular and consistent where they recap the days learning.
Coming up over the next few weeks we have:
KGV Open Day
Meet the people and see the spaces.
KGV Open day is Monday, 2nd September, from 2 to 6 pm. All parents are warmly invited to come to the school to meet the people who will teach and support your child this year and to see the school environment.
Your child will act as your guide taking to their learning areas and favourite spots around the school and introducing you to their tutor, teachers and other key people.
We imagine you will need about an hour to tour the school and you are welcome to join us any time between 2 and 6 pm.
This is not a meeting about your child's progress or an information session. Those things will follow during the term. The goal is for you to get to know the people, and learning environment so you know who to ask for more information and are more connected to the school.
Year 7 parents will have a presentation in the hall with the Year 7 team starting at 3 pm.
We will send a registration request soon and provide more details regarding logistics. Please save the date for now.
Term 1
Dear Parents & Students,
The CAS Activity program is an important part of KGV life. Our aim is that all students become involved in some form of regular activity outside of lesson time for their general health and wellbeing.
The KGV CAS Activities website is specially designed and dedicated to all things relating to the activities program (https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/). During the first weeks of term, we encourage you and your child to browse through the site, have a look at the overview of activities on offer and then follow the instructions on how to sign up!
ONLY students can sign up for activities from their account through Lionel.
Important Dates:
Registration is NOT on a first-come-first-served basis. All students registered will be placed on the waiting list until the end of the registration period. If the number of enrolment exceeds the maximum number of participants, names will be drawn randomly by Lionel to only allocate those that have been pre-approved by parents to join the activity
For more information about signing up, withdrawal, allocation, and parental approval, click here.

Ms Carlile (Head of Music, KGV)
Over the summer break, some of our students were extremely busy competing in their chosen sports.
Chloe Chiu and her sister Sophie, who arrived at KGV this year as a year 7 student, both competed in China's Inline Freestyle National Championships in Lishui (7-10th August) in which there were more than 1,300 athletes competing.
For this competition, Chloe took part in four events and obtained the following results:
1st in Long Distance Slide (Youth Category, 13 to 18 years old)
2nd in Battle Slide (Open Category)
2nd in Free Jump (Open Category)
13th in Speed Slalom (Youth Category)
In this same competition Sophie, who was competing for the first time at this tournament, participated in four events with the following results:
2nd in Long Distance Slide (Junior A Category, 11 to 12 years old)
6th in Free Jump (Junior A Category, 11 to 12 years old)
25th in Battle Slide (Junior A Category, 11 to 12 years old)
29th in Speed Slalom (Junior A Category, 11 to 12 years old)
Outstanding results from both girls. We will continue to follow their inline skating career with interest as both continue to compete against the best in the world.
Andre and Jeremy Leung, both top cyclists, competed in a range of events through Europe over the summer and both had very impressive results.
Jeremy won 5 races in Flanders, Belgium in the U13 Category (riders born year 2012) and won 3 out of 5 stages at the 2024 European Junior Cycling Tour Assen, Netherlands in Category 5 (boys born 2012 and girls born 2011): Jeremy finished 5th out of 52 riders in the general classification.
Andre also won a race in Anzegem, Belgium in the U15 category (riders born year 2010) where he outsprinted the 2024 West Flanders champion by a thin margin. Andre finished 16th out of 48 riders at the 2024 European Junior Cycling Tour Assen in Category 7 (boys born 2010).
Very impressive results for both students racing against some of the next young riders in Europe. They are both cyclists progressing well and we look forward to seeing their continued success.
Careers & H.E. Guidance
Year 13
Welcome back! We hope everyone managed to have some time to relax, rejuvenate & recharge over the Summer. We were very happy to have run the H.E. morning on Wed, 14 Aug, to help our Y13 students get prepared for higher education applications. Students should look out for notices and reminders communicated via their H.E. Counsellor’s Google Classrooms and emails from the Careers Office.
Year 12
Welcome back to our returning students and their families. A warm welcome to those new to KGV!
We understand that start of IB/BTEC/IBCP is challenging, especially in Term 1. If students need any help from the Careers & H.E. Team, they can find us in the Year 12-13 Office. We will be presenting to the Yr 12’s later on in the term providing guidance and resources to assist their higher education journey.
