Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you are enjoying a good week. It has been great to see the students continue to settle into their routines, and approach their learning with the focus, determination and joy that is characteristic of KGV students.
This week also brought a time of celebration for our current Year 12 students as they received their (i)GCSE results. An incredible 38.4% achieved the top grade of A*/9-8 and 62.5% achieving A*-A/9-7 grades. It is also wonderful to see 93.8% of students achieving A-C/9-4.
We are proud of their achievements, and I am sure they will take the time to enjoy their success. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank all the KGV staff who were involved in enabling such remarkable results. Their dedication, expertise and professionalism is so vital in enabling these remarkable outcomes.
We will continue to build on these results as we create the learning conditions for every student at KGV to be successful, and achieve the best possible outcomes.
Have a great weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Principal
Year 7 Message
While we celebrate your child completing a successful first full week at KGV, we understand the excitement and apprehension your child may be experiencing. Our dedicated KGV staff are committed to ensuring a seamless and rewarding experience and are readily available to address any academic, social, or emotional needs. We encourage participation in our KGV community, providing avenues to develop interests, build friendships, and cultivate a sense of belonging. As partners in your child's journey, we look forward to working closely with you to unlock their full potential and foster their growth during this pivotal time.
In our Year 7 Assembly this week, Mr Wrigley discussed uniforms with a strong focus on school shoes and safety, reminding students that boots, canvas, mesh, ‘‘Mary Jane’ and ‘ballet’ styles are not permitted. Closed-toe leather shoes which fully enclose the foot provide better protection for students' feet, especially in environments with potential hazards such as sharp objects, heavy equipment, or chemicals that may be present in certain classrooms or laboratories. Shoes which fully enclose the foot help prevent injuries and accidents. Please see our uniform guidelines here: https://www.kgv.edu.hk/uniform/
In summary:
● Shoes must be a black polishable leather.
● The upper must fully enclose the foot.
● Boots, canvas, ‘Mary Jane’ and ‘ballet’ styles are not permitted.
● There should be no rubberised toe to the shoe and the shoes must be completely black (no other colours on the shoe).
KGV School Photos are next week. Your child will check the schedule in tutor time for their individual and tutor group photos. Sibling Photos are also available at a set time on the schedule School Photos 2024
Other reminders:
CAS sign-up is open for one more week. Please encourage your child to look through what is available and sign up on Lionel. Participation in our CAS programme provides avenues to develop interests, build friendships, and cultivate a sense of belonging to KGV.
Monday 2nd September – KGV Open Day – school finishes at 12.35 pm, no period 5 classes. More information to follow soon.
Monday 9th September – Whole school Swimming Gala
Have a great weekend.
Year 8 & 9 Message
As your child embarks on a new academic year at KGV, we understand the excitement and apprehension you may feel on their behalf. While they may not be new to our school, the start of a fresh year can still bring about a mix of emotions.
Rest assured, our dedicated staff are committed to ensuring a seamless and rewarding experience for your child. Whether they need support with academics, social interactions, or emotional wellbeing, our team of experienced professionals is readily available to address their needs.
We encourage your child to participate in our vibrant KGV community actively. From sports teams and performing arts to service learning and social clubs, there are ample avenues for them to develop their interests, build lasting friendships, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging.
As partners in your child's educational journey, we are excited to work closely with you to unlock their full potential and foster their growth during this pivotal time.
We look forward to an enriching and successful year ahead!
This year, we are trialling our Tuesday Tutor Time as independent reading. Independent reading promotes literacy development, fosters a love of reading, supports individualised learning, enhances concentration and focus, and complements classroom instruction. By providing students with consistent time to read self-selected books, we cultivate lifelong reading habits, personalised learning, and a nurturing environment that supports academic and personal growth.
This week, in our Year 8 & 9 assemblies, the Wellbeing Team presented the Wellbeing Support available to students at KGV. Please see the attached presentation to prompt a discussion with your child about the support available. Wellbeing Support at KGV 2024-25 Y8_9 presentation to students_parent copy.pdf
KGV School Photos are next week. Your child will check the schedule in tutor time for individual and tutor group photos. Sibling Photos are also available at a set time on the schedule School Photos 2024

Year 12 & 13 Message
The Year 12 & 13 team would like to congratulate our Year 12 students on their fabulous (i)GCSE results! We would also like to point out a couple of reminders for our students:
Our Senior Head of Year 12 & 13, Mr Pritchard, is currently reviewing all Year 13 attendance and punctuality data in relation to early leave and late arrival privileges. The Options Window will formally open for our Year 12 students on Monday 2nd September and will close on 9th September. We thank you as always for your continued support.Wishing you a great weekend.
Year 10 & 11 Message
This week has run without interruption and students will have started all their courses by now.
Year 10 students will have the opportunity to make changes to their option choices starting on Friday August 29th. Unfortunately, we can't guarantee all change requests will be possible.
A highlight last term was the TED Talk by Rachell Lee, now in Year 11 about the power of writing. It has just been published on Youtube and would be great to watch with your family.
We are looking forward to seeing many of you during the KGV Open day coming up September 2nd. If you can join us for that, make sure to introduce yourself to your child's tutor. If you have any questions about GCSE in general, you are welcome to drop in to see me and Mr Kent in the Year 10/11 office.
Coming up over the next few weeks we have:
Inclement Weather Conditions
Dear Parents and Students,
At this time of year, we may experience inclement weather that leads to schools being closed due to Hong Kong-wide weather warnings. We intend to ensure a continuity of learning as far as possible when schools are closed.
I am writing to provide an overview of our approach if KGV is closed at the start of the school day due to inclement weather; this is summarised in the PDF attached.
Dear parents,
Welcome and welcome back to KGV and hope you all had a nice summer break!
We are now collecting the PTSA Fee for this academic year via e-payment and the fee remains HK$200 per family.
For more information, please click this LINK
Please email ptsa@kgv.edu.hk if you have any questions, thank you!
KGV Open Day
Meet the People. See the Spaces.
KGV Open day is Monday, 2nd September, from 2 to 6 pm. All parents are warmly invited to come to the school to meet the people who will teach and support your child this year and to see the school environment.
If you plan to attend, please complete this registration form - one form per child.
Your child will act as your guide taking to their learning areas and favourite spots around the school and introducing you to their tutor, teachers and other key people.
We imagine you will need about an hour to tour the school and you are welcome to join us any time between 2 and 6 pm.
This is not a meeting about your child's progress or an information session. Those things will follow during the term. The goal is for you to get to know the people, and learning environment so you know who to ask for more information and are more connected to the school.
Year 7 parents will have a presentation in the hall with the Year 7 team starting at 3 pm.
Please complete the registration above and we will send you more detailed information and an ePass to show our security guards on the day.
We are excited to host our annual Photography Week from August 26th to August 29th. Here is the schedule, which includes school photos for every tutor group and an opportunity for siblings to get their pictures taken. We appreciate your help in reminding your children to attend their tutor group session.
Careers & H.E. Guidance
Year 13
We hope our Y13 students have settled in well and are getting ready to the challenges ahead.
Y13 1-1 HE Session, starting today, 23 August. Students will be receiving emails giving them their allocated appointment dates & times.
H.E. morning on 14 Aug. We are happy to learn that students found the session useful in getting them ready on various application portals (except Hong Kong when the universities are yet to open their application cycle for 2025 entry).
Google Classroom & Student Bulletin posts. It is very important that students check their H.E. Counsellor’s Google Classrooms and Student Bulletin posts for careers & H.E.-related information.
Year 12
We understand that start of IB/BTEC/IBCP is challenging, especially in Term 1. If students need any help from the Careers & H.E. Team, they can find us in the Year 12-13 Office. We will be presenting to the Yr 12’s later on in the term providing guidance and resources to assist their higher education journey. In the meantime, our H.E. Counsellors have set up Google Classrooms for Y12s where H.E.-related information is shared.

More information to follow in the next couple of weeks.

The Fair is open to all students during lunch time. Students are welcome to check out the booths and ask industry experts about their work and experiences. List of participants are being finalised.
If parents would like to take a booth and share their experience in their professions with students, please email careers.office@kgv.edu.hk.

CAS - Term 1
Dear Parents & Students,
It’s great to see the amount of interest in the CAS program. In just the first few days, there have been over 2500 active sign-ups.
CAS Activities will remain open for sign-up until Sunday 1st of September. New activities are still being added every day so please continue to check the KGV CAS Activities website (https://www.kgvcasactivities.com/), but for the full details, please look at the activities page on LIONEL.
Registration is NOT on a first-come-first-served basis. All students registered will be placed on the waiting list until the end of the registration period. If the number of enrolments exceeds the maximum number of participants, names will be drawn randomly by Lionel to only allocate those who have been pre-approved by parents to join the activity. Allocation will commence on Monday 2nd of September.

Term 1 Activities are due to start the week of September 9th.

School reference (non-higher education purposes) (Link to policy on Lionel)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release the school reference for your child. KGV will only proceed with requests once parental permission has been received.
To request a school reference, parents are kindly asked to complete this form. Please allow at least four working weeks for teachers to prepare the references.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
If students are pursuing gifted and talented programmes outside of KGV, they should contact Mr. Krishin Hotwani directly.
