Principal's Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
I hope you have enjoyed a good week. One of KGV’s strategic priorities is to ensure each student is ‘Known, Heard, Safe and Successful.’ Since the start of the academic year, all teachers have been using strategies to get to know students well so we can build a strong sense of belonging in lessons and to provide appropriate academic support. Teachers have also been sharing successful approaches with each other, discussing what we did, what happened and how we observed the impact of these approaches.
We also want to create opportunities to engage the parent community with our approach to getting to know students well, and get your feedback on your child’s experience. This will start with a parent engagement workshop on Friday 18th October and it would be great to see you there if you are available. Please look out for an ESF app message from Michelle Tsang for further details and how to sign up.
I hope you and your family enjoy a good half-term break, and we look forward to seeing the students back at KGV on Monday 14th October.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 8 Message
Congratulations to Emily Chan and Sammi Lee in Year 9 for their beautiful performance of “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran at our Year 8 and 9 Assembly on Wednesday. We also celebrated Vihaan Singhal from Year 8, who earned trophies and certificates for his Silver and Bronze awards at the Global Mathematics Elite Competition (GMEC) Final Exam. Lastly, we recognised Nathan Fong in Year 9, the HKPS Bright Future Scholarship recipient, awarded to students who demonstrate perseverance, determination, and achievements in academics or other areas.
In the Assembly, Mr Tranter shared the Honours Certificate requirements for Term 1, which include:
Attendance: Maintain 95% attendance at school, as recorded in the Raw+ data.
Punctuality: Students must be in school and swiped in before 8:10 AM. Those without their Octopus card should sign in at reception. Students should have no more than two late arrivals per semester.
Uniform: High standards are always expected, as the Uniform Policy outlines. There should be no concerns or slips regarding incorrect uniforms, and students should not need frequent reminders to wear them properly.
General Behaviour: Students should meet school rules, be considerate, and actively participate in school life.
As part of our commitment to Child Protection and Safeguarding, students were presented with key points from the ESF Substance Misuse Policy on Wednesday. This policy aims to prevent and address substance misuse in ESF schools, fostering an environment where students feel safe, happy, and ready to learn. Implementing prevention strategies is crucial in reducing the risk of substance misuse among all students. A copy of the policy is attached for your reference.
Congratulations to our Year 8 students on completing two full days of the MYP Interdisciplinary Unit for Maths and Science this week! We look forward to seeing the progress made on these projects after the half-term break.
As we near the end of this long half-term, we are proud of how well all students have adapted to their new year levels and the associated demands. We encourage everyone to take this well-deserved break to rest and rejuvenate. Wishing you a relaxing half-term, and we look forward to welcoming all students back on 14 October.
Year 12 & 13 Message
The Year 12 and 13 team wish all of our students and families a restful and peaceful break. See you back on Campus on Monday 14th October!
Year 10 & 11 Message
Today is house spirit day for Crozier and Nightingale and it is great to see students in their house colours. It is also Mental health awareness day and some students are wearing odd socks to acknowledge this.
Next week is half-term break, and we hope all students get some rest and spend time with their families and friends.
Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Congratulations to your child(ren) for a successful completion of the first Half Term! They have done an incredible job and as a Year 7 team, we are extremely proud of their eagerness, willingness and determination in finding their sense of belonging a KGV.
We hoped Year 7s enjoyed their final day and engaged in the House Spirit activities. Today we also acknowledged Mental Health Awareness by supporting Odd Socks Day.
Some of you will have received emails from our Year 7 Heads of Year regarding Kids smart watches (IMOO, Huawei or similar). These devices come with camera functions, some of which can be activated remotely. Because of this, for privacy protection and safety reasons, we need to regulate their use in school. Students with these watches need to manage their smartwatch the same way as they manage their smartphones: they should feel free to wear the watches to and from school, but while school is in session they should leave these devices safely in their bags, lockers or in PE valuable boxes. If they need to access them during the day, they should ask a teacher for permission to do so, under teacher supervision.
After the break, we will continue to work on the use of mobile devices around the campus. We will also be seeking parent engagement on this topic. More information to follow.
Have a great Half Term break.

School reference (non-higher education purposes)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release the school reference for your child. KGV will only proceed with requests once parental permission has been received.
To request a school reference, parents are kindly asked to complete this form. Please allow at least four working weeks for teachers to prepare the references.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
If students are pursuing external extension programmes outside of KGV, they should read and follow the information on this website: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities .
