Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
The heritage and ambition of KGV makes it a truly special and unique school. Just over a week ago, we welcomed nearly 300 alumni back to KGV as part of a ‘mega-reunion'. It was wonderful to see the pride that comes from belonging to the KGV community, and our Year 13 students gained so much from sharing stories about their experiences at the school.
Examples of these stories are captured in our newly launched KGV celebrations website, a deep and rich resource that reflects what it means to be a KGVer. Next week will also bring a significant milestone in our history as we celebrate 100 Years of Speech Night, with a focus on voices from the past, present and future. ROAR week will provide the opportunity for our community to join these celebrations across such a wide range of events, and I am sure we will create magical memories for all those involved. We are proud of our history, and excited by our future. Please look out for more information throughout next week.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have a refreshing weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week our Year 7 students demonstrated great agility as they took their learning online on Thursday and worked independently on consolidation work today. Hopefully many of you were also able to book appointments to see your child's teachers today and have had the opportunity to praise your child for their efforts and achievements as well as identity areas for further improvement.
Next week we are all about celebrations! It is our ROAR week where we will be recognising and honouring our past, celebrating our present and looking positively to our future. Details were emailed to you earlier this week about the events happening each day.
To get the week off to a great start, we are asking all students to come dressed in traditional wear from the country of origin, or country they most identify with. If students do not have access to traditional wear, then wearing national colours etc would be great. All KGV students and staff will gather on the school field in Period 1 on Monday to have a whole school photograph, they will sing the school song and Mr Poulsum will officially start the ROAR Week celebrations. The PTSA has funded a photobooth for the day, allowing students and staff to have instant photos taken to record this event. We also have a professional camera crew with us for the week.
A reminder that Tuesday is "Wear your PE Kit Day", Wednesday is "Summer Uniform", Thursday "Winter Uniform" and Friday "Wear as Many Colours as Possible". Ties for Winter Uniform are available from the PTSA shop.
We will update you throughout the week and share photographs with you. Later in the week we will also share with you a link for you to watch our 100th Speech Night live from KGV.
Have a good weekend.
Year 12 & 13 Message
We hope that everyone managed to stay safe during T8 yesterday.
A reminder to all of our Year 12 and 13 students that next week is ROAR week and we have an exciting week ahead with the celebrations and events linked to our 130th Anniversary and 100th Speech Night.
ROAR Week starts on Monday.
Theme: International
Expectations: All students in either Traditional Dress or wearing your country colours. Plan your outfits. The whole school is involved.
Period 1: All students go straight to lessons and wait for the announcement to come to the field to be part of our 130 Year Whole School Photo.
10am - 2pm: Photo Booth in School Hall for Students to have photos taken
Lessons: ROAR Theme Activities across all lessons with Artists in Residence in Music, Drama and Art.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Year 10 & 11 Message
It was great to hear all the stories about Challenge Week this week, and nice to have everyone home safely.
Options choices for Year 11 students were due today. In some cases, students still need to have conversations with teachers to ensure they are making good decisions and setting themselves up for success. Questions about option choices should be directed to your child's tutor in the first instance.
House assemblies are ongoing and house competitions have been running during the week.
Next week is ROAR week with different events every day, including our annual prizegiving celebration, Speech Night.
Year 8 Message
I'm pleased to report that our students successfully transitioned to online learning on Thursday due to the T8. Seeing everyone engaged and actively participating in their classes was wonderful. This smooth transition reflects their commitment and resilience, and I'm proud of how well they embraced this new format. Thank you to all the students for your hard work and the teachers' support in making this shift effective!
I'm excited to share that our first Learning Reviews on Friday, November 15th, provided an excellent opportunity for parents to connect with teachers and discuss their child's progress. Meeting new parents and fostering a strong sense of community and collaboration within our school has been a highlight.
Please remember to sign up for your appointments through LIONEL for the upcoming sessions on November 25th (starting at 2:30 pm) and December 2nd (all day). It's important that your child attends these meetings with you, as their engagement is crucial to their learning journey. Students will stay home on December 2nd to facilitate these important discussions.
Next week is our ROAR Week. This is our opportunity to celebrate KGV's 130-year history. Please make sure your child takes note of the dress themes for the week;
Monday 18th: International Day (Culture Day)
Tuesday 19th: KGV PE Kit (House Spirit Day)
Wednesday 20th: Summer Uniform
Thursday 21st: Winter Uniform (please buy ties from PTSA shop). School finishes at 1 pm.
Friday 22nd: Wear as many colours as possible to celebrate the start of our Pride Week.
Have a great weekend.

Additionally, please be aware that the deadline for Year 9 options has been extended to Monday, November 25th. This extension is due to the postponement of the options talks initially scheduled for Thursday, November 14th, which will now occur next Friday.

Today was the first day of Learning Reviews. The booking system re-opens at 6pm for parents to make bookings for Monday 25/11 and Monday 2/12.
Learning reviews are an opportunity to discuss academic progress with your child’s teachers at KGV.
Learning Reviews involve all subject teachers and all students. In 2024 we are planning for these to take place for students in Y7,8,9,10,12 on:
Fri 15/11 - completed
Mon 25/11 (half day)
Mon 2/12
And for students in Y11 and 13 following the mock exams.
Bookings are made in Lionel through the ESF App. The system re-opens at 6pm today, Friday.
Parents can make bookings across any of the three days. The appointment booking system will close 48 hours before each Learning Review to give staff time to plan and prepare. It will then reopen at the end of each Learning Review so you can book or change appointments for the days still to come.
We have 10 minute and 5 minute slots available. Choose a 5 minute slot unless there are deeper issues you wish to discuss. Slots cannot be booked back to back.
Appointments must finish sharply at the end of the time slot so teachers can welcome the next family. Please ensure you are on time to start your appointment.
Appointments take place online through Google meet. Parents and students can join from separate devices.
We recommend that your child attends the meeting to help with the discussion.
A full guide for making bookings and using Google meet is here.
Learning reviews for Year 11 and 13 students will be scheduled to follow the mock exams in term 2.
So you are aware, we are running Learning Reviews for students in Years 7,8,9,10 and 12 between now and the end of term 1. Some of your child's teachers may reach out to you as well if they wish to use this opportunity to talk to you sooner.
School reference (non-higher education purposes)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.
For students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release the school reference for your child. KGV will only proceed with requests once parental permission has been received.
To request a school reference, parents are kindly asked to complete this form. Please allow at least four working weeks for teachers to prepare the references.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
If students are pursuing external extension programmes outside of KGV, they should read and follow the information on this website: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities .
