Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
As we have celebrated the 130th year of KGV and our 100th Speech Night, the theme has been ‘Voices from the Past, Present and Future.’ It has been wonderful to engage with so many alumni who reminisced about their time at school and continue to show the pride and belonging that comes from being a KGVer.
Equally, this week demonstrated how incredibly talented students our students are. From the world class performances in Evening of Music and Dance, the accomplishments reflected through Speech Night, and how each student engaged with so many different celebratory activities.
It was also great to see KGVers of the future join us today to participate in our celebrations. The excitement they brought with them was another reflection of what it means to belong to the KGV community.
For each of these generations of KGVers, they are unified by the pride of belonging to a community with such a rich heritage. They are ambitious for themselves and others, and live our values of honesty, courage and empathy. It is these qualities that make KGV students truly remarkable people.
It has been an exhilarating week and please look out for a film that will capture these highlights. We are proud of our heritage and excited by our future.
Have a wonderful weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 10 & 11 Message
Students have been fully involved in a wide variety of activities this week, including our annual Speech night celebrations last night. It was wonderful to see many of our Year 10 students receiving prizes for their efforts in Year 9 last year.
The option choice deadline for Year 11 students has now passed and we are working to finalise choices for some.
Next week is Pride week and there are also a large number of sporting competitions running.
Now that cooler weather is here, please ensure your child has winter uniform items such as the school tie and a warm outer layer like the school fleece, hoodie and/or jacket. Students can wear plain coloured t-shirts or thermals under their shirts as well to ensure they stay warm.
Year 12 & 13 Message
We hope that everyone enjoyed the wonderful celebrations across the campus during our ROAR week this week! Our students have been fully involved in a wide variety of activities this week, including our annual Speech night celebrations last night. The Mr Hattam Kindness Award is presented in memory of Christopher James Hattam, an incredibly kind, compassionate and committed teacher at KGV. Mr Hattam was not only an outstanding classroom teacher, tutor, and role model, he was involved in many facets of KGV school life beyond the classroom. Mr Hattam Kindness Award - Caitlin Eastwood
The Lion Awards reflect the extraordinary stories of some of our amazing students whose achievements don’t necessarily fit into existing categories. The Senior Leadership Team decides upon the Lion Awards based on nominations open to all students. Our school LION values are Honesty, Courage and Empathy, and to be recognised for these awards, students must demonstrate commitment to these values. To receive a Lion Award is a remarkable achievement. Lion Award - Evan Ho
In line with our commitment to ensuring KGV students feel known, heard, safe, and successful, please encourage your child to complete the reflection on Pages 38 and 39 of the KGV MYP Journal. Use this as a chance to discuss with your child how they felt a sense of purpose and connection to KGV this week.
Please note our upcoming events:
Monday 25th November – Learning Review afternoon (school finishes at 12.35 pm)
Monday 2nd December – Learning Review full day (no students at school. Students should attend their learning reviews with parents)
Tuesday 3rd December – Sports Day
Have a great weekend!
Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have just completed an incredible week of celebrations as we marked our 130-year history. From taking a whole school photograph on our International Day to having a House Spirit Day, we participated in a number of opportunities for our community to remember and recognise our long history and legacy.
We also welcomed 4 Year 7 Parents onto campus on Wednesday, who spent the day shadowing their children in lessons. It was lovely to see the parents of Charley Cheung, Nathan Tsang, Adam Chue and Jimmy Chan. We are hoping to run this initiative again after Christmas.
On Thursday we held our KGV 100th Speech Night. This was a truly remarkable occasion as welcomed back alumni from as far back as 1965. We had a number of Year 7 students volunteering as Student Ambassadors and Gabriel McAlpine was our Year 7 Student Representative who sat on stage amongst our teachers and parent representations as part of our official stage party.
Next Monday we have our next learning review. School finishes at 12.35 pm on Monday to enable learning review appointments to take place in the afternoon. Our final learning review is the following week. Students will remain home all day on Monday, 2nd December, and be given work to complete when they have time around their learning reviews. Advanced notice for our Sports Day which takes place on 3rd December. More information to follow.
Have a great weekend.
Monday afternoon is the next session of Learning Reviews. The booking system is open now and will close on Saturday at 6pm. It will re-open following Monday's Learning Review meetings at 6pm for parents to make bookings for Monday 25/11.
On Monday, school will finish after period 4 to give students and staff the opportunity to conduct learning review meetings. Learning reviews are an opportunity to discuss academic progress with your child’s teachers at KGV.
Find the link to your online meeting in the appointments system. Please adhere to your appointment times.
Learning Reviews involve all subject teachers and all students. In 2024 we are planning for these to take place for students in Y7,8,9,10,12 on:
Fri 15/11 - completed
Mon 25/11 (half day)
Mon 2/12
And for students in Y11 and 13 following the mock exams.
Bookings are made in Lionel through the ESF App. The system re-opens at 6pm today, Friday.
Parents can make bookings across any of the three days. The appointment booking system will close 48 hours before each Learning Review to give staff time to plan and prepare. It will then reopen at the end of each Learning Review so you can book or change appointments for the days still to come.
We have 10 minute and 5 minute slots available. Choose a 5 minute slot unless there are deeper issues you wish to discuss. Slots cannot be booked back to back.
Appointments must finish sharply at the end of the time slot so teachers can welcome the next family. Please ensure you are on time to start your appointment.
Appointments take place online through Google meet. Parents and students can join from separate devices.
We recommend that your child attends the meeting to help with the discussion.
A full guide for making bookings and using Google meet is here.

In August 2025/2026, our new KGV Thrive Curriculum will be implemented for all Year 7 to Year 13 students, featuring one dedicated weekly class period.
The KGV Thrive Curriculum aims to cultivate resilient, globally-minded individuals who embrace diversity, demonstrate empathy and strive to impact our interconnected world positively.
This curriculum will cover various year-appropriate topics, including PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education), RSE (Relationships and Sex Education), Digital Citizenship, Health and Wellbeing, and Living in the Wider World.
We believe incorporating parent voice in the design of the KGV Thrive Curriculum is essential. Engaging you in this process ensures the curriculum is relevant, meaningful, and reflective of your child's needs and perspectives. By valuing your input, we encourage you to actively contribute to your child's learning and help foster a sense of community and belonging within our school.
Please remember that a KGV Thrive Lead Teacher will read everything you submit. Please consider your audience.
You may submit multiple forms if you have children in different year levels.

On November 20th, we at Funcation succeeded in hosting a large-scale workshop series for 120 Year 5 students at CWBS. Following 2 weeks of diligent preparation, 13 KGV volunteers set out to share their knowledge.
Our phenomenal volunteers passionately guided students through content including: the scientific method, changing matter, physical/chemical and reversible/irreversible changes.
The CWBS students showcased their impressive expertise, engaging in exciting experiments and discussions; they were able to directly apply conceptual knowledge learned in the current “How The World Works” unit. We hope to have inspired the Y5 students to continue taking their science journey further; either way, there was a lot of laughter and joy shared on the day!”
Rou Zhao (Chair of Funcation); on behalf of Chloe Chan (Head of Outreach), Maya Yan (Head of HR), Xuanqi Chen (Head of Design) and Vivian Gu (Head of Logistics)
A massive thank-you to our incredible volunteers: Kavya Panjwani, Jason Xia, Chrisann Carvalho, Ika Tang, Rachell Lee, Hilo Chen, Marigold Wong, Alvin Lam, Kianca McDonnell, Isabel Esmail, Olivia Lan, Grishma Nanda, David Lee.
School reference (non-higher education purposes)
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references including exit & summer schools.

To request a school reference, parents are kindly asked to complete this form. Please allow at least four working weeks for teachers to prepare the references.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
