Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families
As we approach the end of the calendar year, we start to transition towards our new student leaders, and this begins with appointing new Head Prefects. Following a rigorous interview process, I am delighted to inform you that KGV's Head Prefects for 2025 will be Maya Yan (12U26) and Dharuka Jeeransinghe (12N22).
Maya and Dharuka were the outstanding candidates in a highly competitive field, and will surely continue the long tradition of our Head Prefects being superb representatives and leaders of the student community. Maya and Dharuka will be formally introduced as Head Prefects at the end of term whole school assembly. I would also like to take the opportunity to thank Maeve Morrison and Sasha Sing, our current Head Prefects, for their contributions over the past year.
It has also been a pleasure to welcome so many parents to KGV this week. Seeing over 200 parents join our MYP Assessment workshops, plus over 30 students engage in a digital citizenship discussion, reflects the commitment of our parent community in developing a strong home-school partnership. I would like to thank Rowan Turner (MYP Coordinator) and Lewis Glover (Learning Technologies Coordinator) for their leadership with these sessions, and Michelle Tsang for her coordination of these events. Please look out for more opportunities in term 2.
Have an enjoyable and relaxing weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum

We have been reinforcing the need for our students to maintain their high expectations as we move towards the end of term. This includes wearing uniform correctly, remaining focused with their learning and ensuring they are kind to each other.
A reminder that school is closed on Monday to allow for our Learning Review. Year 13 Learning Reviews will take place after the Mock Examinations in Term 2.

Wishing you a great weekend.

Sports day is next Tuesday at the Sham Shui Po Sports ground.
In Year 10 PSHE, students have just started to delve into a new theme of Relationships and sex education. We cover a range of important topics surrounding healthy relationships, social constructs, and the dynamics of power. Students will explore what makes a relationship healthy, the impact of technology, and how personal values influence interactions. Discussions will also cover stereotypes, cultural norms, and strategies to navigate relationships. Additionally, students will learn about the significance of consent, different types of contraception, and how relationships are portrayed online later on in the year. I encourage you to have discussions at home and ask your children, what they are learning and what strategies they have learnt that could help them for life! If you have any questions about the curriculum, please feel free to contact me Ashlea Easton, Head of Thrive, at ashlea.easton@kgv.edu.hk. Your insights are always welcome!
Year 11 Message
Year 11 mock exams are 13th to 24th January.
Students attend school as normal for the first week after the Christmas break. Students are on study/exam leave from 13th January through to the New Year break. During this time, they can choose to attend school to use our study facilities and must attend school to sit their exams. When at school, students must be in school uniform. Please check the mock exam timetable carefully. We will share the exam regulations soon.
Year 11 final exams are in May and June
These are still 5 months away so this is a heads up. Exam leave for students will start at 3.20 pm on Thursday 24th April. From that point, students can study at school if they wish and must attend for their exams. A detailed exam timetable with venues and times will be published when ready. An overview of dates for the final exams is available here.

Year 8 & 9 Message
Congratulations to Muji Choi from Year 8 for playing the drums with the KGV Band "Squid Marks" during Assembly on Wednesday and Thursday! The band performed "Should I Stay or Should I Go," originally by The Clash.
In this week's Assembly, our Heads of Year discussed the importance of students taking responsibility for their belongings at all times, including during PE, Drama, and CAS activities. Students are encouraged to use their lockers or the teachers' valuables box to store their items securely. Additionally, students should keep track of their personal belongings during breaks and lunch.
We also emphasise the importance of regularly checking the lost property outside the KGV Shop, as many items go unclaimed. At this time of year, we have a mountain of clothing items as students take off their warmer items where they are and then forget to take them with them. By working together, we can foster a sense of ownership and respect for personal and shared resources within our school community.
In addition, we have been reinforcing the need for our students to maintain their high expectations as we move towards the end of term. This includes wearing their uniform correctly, remaining focused on their learning and ensuring they are kind to each other. I appreciate your support in helping your child develop these essential habits!
It has been a pleasure to welcome many parents to KGV this week. With over 240 Year 7 to 9 parents participating in our MYP Assessment workshops on Tuesday and Thursday and parents taking part in a digital citizenship discussion on Friday, it's clear that our parent community is dedicated to fostering a strong home-school partnership.
A reminder that school is closed on Monday to allow for our Learning Review.
Sports Day is next Tuesday at the Sham Shui Po Sports ground.
Have a great weekend!
Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Today we have been celebrating all members of our community in our annual Pride Week. Students have been working with tutors on why we need to promote kindness and empathy to all members of our community. We ended the week with a Pride Concert today, which showcased some fantastic performers.
Next week we have our Learning Review on Monday, with students staying at home to complete independent work. This is to enable all students to attend alongside parents. Tuesday is our Sports Day. Please look out for information from Ms Knight, Head of PE. Please read the information carefully as this off-site event has impacted our school buses.
Thursday is our Winter Concert, 6 pm in the School Hall. We have many Year 7 students involved and look forward to seeing parents supporting this event.
School finishes at 12 pm on Friday 13th December, for our winter break.
Have a great weekend.
In August 2025/2026, our new KGV Thrive Curriculum will be implemented for all Year 7 to Year 13 students, featuring one dedicated weekly class period.
The KGV Thrive Curriculum aims to cultivate resilient, globally-minded individuals who embrace diversity, demonstrate empathy and strive to impact our interconnected world positively.
This curriculum will cover various year-appropriate topics, including PSHE (Personal, Social, Health, and Economic Education), RSE (Relationships and Sex Education), Digital Citizenship, Health and Wellbeing, and Living in the Wider World.
We believe incorporating parent voice in the design of the KGV Thrive Curriculum is essential. Engaging you in this process ensures the curriculum is relevant, meaningful, and reflective of your child's needs and perspectives. By valuing your input, we encourage you to actively contribute to your child's learning and help foster a sense of community and belonging within our school.
Please remember that a KGV Thrive Lead Teacher will read everything you submit. Please consider your audience.

Bill Williams Rugby Tournament
The A Grade Boys and Girls rugby teams recently competed in the annual Bill Williams rugby tournament.
The weather certainly didn;t play ball and it was more like a winters day in the UK with rain and wind and cold temperatures. Not great weather for rugby.
Regardless of the conditions, both teams represented themselves and KGV with utmost integrity and effort.
The A Grade girls team faced some difficult matches against very strong South Island, Kellet and HKIS teams. Although the scores were big, the girls never gave up and put in a lot of hard work. They were rewarded with their efforts with a good win over Island School. They then played Kellett for the bowl final, but by this stage some injuries had set in and we had a reduced team. The girls fought valiantly but went down 24-0. Alex Wadsworth and Emily Fisher were key players for the day and both provided plenty of punch for the team.
The A Grade boys had DC and GSIS in their pool. They went through pool play unbeaten, playing some really good rugby and scoring some great tries. Ryan Schroeder showing impressive speed and agility finished some sweeping team plays and some of the forwards such as Dharuka Jerrasinghe and Bruce Felen worked extremely hard and showed some great touches of skill. The boys then drew SIS in the semi final. This was a much tougher match, but the team played some excellent rugby and finished strongly to win convincingly. They then were up against a very good Kellett side, the same team that beat them in the final during the regular season. The team tried very hard, but the Kellett team proved too strong with a number of their Hong Kong players performing well. So the team finished 2nd overall. This is a great achievement and as the bulk of the team is year 12 (same as the girls team), they will have another opportunity next year to go one better.
It was a great day of rugby and the coaches were very proud of their teams. KGV rugby is definitely in good shape moving forward.
Well done to all involved.
