The Music Academy at KGV is a specialist Arts subject pathway open to students from Year 8 and above which offers extension opportunities for our gifted and talented musicians, with a holistic programme that will allow them to reach their full potential. We would like our musicians to leave KGV with the experiences and skills that will prepare them for a tertiary education in Music or to succeed in a professional setting if they were to choose such a path.
Students selected to be part of the Music Academy programme will have access to specialist instruction that is only available to the Academy cohort. Examples include ensemble training and masterclasses with professional musicians, learning a second instrument, excursions/tours, and also community engagement projects.
Going into Year 8, KGV students will usually choose three art subjects out of Music, Drama, Media, and Art. However, Music Academy students will only focus on Music (they will not take drama, media, and art) to give them the opportunity to fully take advantage of the accelerated curriculum.
Music Academy students will get the option to continue being part of the select group in Year 9, iGCSE, and beyond. The Music Academy is targeted at students who already learn an instrument/vocal outside of the school music curriculum, and who are keen to further develop their musicianship in an individualised learning programme.
