Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
One of our core values at KGV is empathy. Through the education provided we encourage students to be respectful, demonstrate compassion and engage with a diverse range of people. With the aim of fostering empathy, a group of our students participated in the annual ‘Sweatshop Challenge.’ This highly impactful activity reflects our commitment to understanding and empathising with the experience of others, and we would encourage as many students as possible to participate in service learning as part of their educational experience.
On the theme of empathy, next week brings Neurodiversity week. As an inclusive school, it is important that we recognise and celebrate the unique strengths and differences of each member of our community. There will be a variety of activities that will challenge stereotypes and misconceptions about neurological differences, and we would encourage you to have conversations at home about what your child has learnt from these activities.
Lastly, if you haven’t done so already, I would be grateful if you could take 10 minutes to complete the ESF Stakeholder survey. Your feedback helps us to reflect and consider how we continue to improve your child’s educational experience. Please complete by Friday 21st March, and check your spam folder if you cannot find the email.

Year 12 & 13 Message
We would like to remind all of our Year 13 students that attendance to lessons is compulsory right up until the end of this term - all teachers are expecting students to continue to engage with revision materials and extra tutorials to help our students achieve their potential.
We have received wonderfully positive feedback from our Internship partners and hope that our Year 12 BTEC and IBCP students have enjoyed their second and last week on Work Experience.
We are hoping as many of our Year 12 and 13 students as possible will come to the hall next Friday to support our TEDxKGV event. Please see below from our TEDx team.

Year 8 & 9 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians
Showing respect, compassion, and interacting positively with each other is fundamental to the core values of the KGV school community. It’s essential that we guide our young people to treat one another with kindness and foster a sense of belonging for everyone. As the philosopher Maya Angelou wisely said, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” This reminds us of the lasting impact of our actions and words.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the teachers for their dedicated work with our Year 8 and Year 9 students in fostering empathy and support in our community. Special thanks to Mr. Ashley Tranter (Senior Head of Year), Ms. Amanda Lockie (Head of Year 8), Mr. Connor Manion (Head of Year 9), and all the tutors of Year 8 and 9 for their invaluable contributions.
We invite you to engage your in conversation with your children about the importance of supporting one another and contributing positively to our school culture. By emphasising the significance of respect and belonging, we can work together to create a nurturing environment for all students. Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
This week Year 7 students have been engaged in events to recognize Maths Week. Two of our Year 7 students won one of the daily Maths Quizzes. Congratulations to Spencer Yu C04 and Jaeyoung Yoo 07R04. Today Year 7s dressed in their best mathematical outfits for Pi Day and participated alongside KJS students in Maths competitions. Congratulations to Chloe Chung 07U01 for receiving 3rd place and Nikhil Chandiramani for being awarded 2nd place in today’s Pi Bake competition.
Today is also World Sleep Day, where the theme promoted was to make sleep health a priority! As parents and caregivers, we all know the importance of sleep and sleep routines. Perhaps today is a timely reminder to check out home routines around devices, screen time and keeping mobile devices out of bedrooms to support better sleep.

Year 10 & 11 Message
This has been Maths week this week and today is Pi day 3.14. All year groups have been involved in quizzes and competitions. Next week, we celebrate and learn about Neurodiversity, and we have a week of Interhouse Music competitions culminating in the finals next Friday afternoon.
In assembly this week we had a wonderful live music performance from our band named La Bomba (Sofia Ivarsson, Lucas Lui, Charlotte Raeburn-Ward, Avika Sabherwal and Suie Tanaka), auditions for the school musical Animal Farm and a presentation by our new heads of School Council encouraging students to get involved and speak up about issues important to them. We also asked students to complete the stakeholder survey so their voices are heard.
Year 11 Exam information pack.
Follow this link for all the information students need to be aware of for their final exams. It matches the conditions of the mock exams, so there will be no surprises.
The timings for exams this year are being finalised now and personalised exam timetables will be available soon. In the meantime, please use this overview of the exam dates.
Year 11 Formal
The Year 11 formal is coming up on 31st March. Just a reminder that this must not happen at the expense of classroom learning time. Students who are not in class on that day will not be allowed to attend the ball and their ticket cost will be refunded. Please do not entertain requests from your child to write doctor's visit notes or other reasons for leaving classes that day.

There are some important payments we need to process:
1 The Grad Book is $150 each; invoices have been sent to the parents' ESF App. To secure your copy, please pay on the App today and the books will be available for pickup on the day of the ceremony.
2 The Gown Rental for the ceremony is $120; invoices have been sent to the parents' ESF App and the deadline for payment is overdue, please check your App and pay today.

Dear Students and Parents currently in year 8. Although the Academy programme begins in year 8, we currently have a few places open for current year 8 students to join as they go into year 9. Interested students should join the Music Academy Auditions Google Classroom to submit their application/audition. Deadline for applications is Monday 31st March.
The Music Academy is an alternative arts curriculum pathway for gifted and talented KGV musicians where students have the opportunity to develop their musicianship to a much deeper level, working alongside other high-level musicians.
Looking further ahead, students that can achieve approximately grade 5+ standard by year 11, often score the very top marks at IGCSE Music, particularly in the performance part of the course. The Music Academy is an excellent opportunity to develop many of these skills in preparation for both IGCSE and IB Music.

KGV Music Department
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references and grade summaries, including potential exit & summer programmes.
To protect our students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release any student information to external parties. KGV will only fulfil requests once we have received this permission.
To request a school reference or grade summary, parents are kindly asked to complete this form.
Students should not use their KGV account to log in to this form. This is to ensure that parental consent is obtained before we release any student information.
Students should reach out to teachers to invite them to be recommenders. It is beneficial for students to provide teachers with information about the programme for which they are applying, as this helps in preparing meaningful recommendations. Please be mindful of additional workloads on teachers when making these requests.
Typical lead time for teachers to prepare references is four working weeks.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.

Year 13
Students should continue to keep their H.E. Counsellors informed about their applications and regularly check Google Classroom for updates and resources related to higher education.
Year 13 Exit Preparation. On Thursday 13 March, the H.E. Team presented our Y13s next week on procedures covering our support for students, final transcript arrangements, student actions for H.E. and post-result actions. A similar session for parents is being planned. Stay tuned for the date.
Year 12
Google Classrooms for Y12s are set up to share H.E.-related information is shared.
The Y12 1-1 H.E. meetings have started Feb. Our HE Counsellors have started meeting Y12s individually to discuss their post-KGV plans and intentions. Full information on making appointments and details of the meets are shared to students via Google Classroom. All appointments are now scheduled. Students should refer to the schedules posted on Google Classroom for their appointments.
Visit to HKUST's Academy of Interdisplinary Studes is planned on 28 Apr (Mon). We have arranged a visit to HKUST’s AIS for our Year 12 students. Details on signup will be available soon.
