Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Throughout this week, our thoughts have been with Mason’s parents, wider family and his friends. It has been a difficult time for the KGV community, but one where the support, care and friendship amongst the students and staff has helped to provide some comfort to those affected. We have aimed to maintain our regular routines, whilst also giving the opportunity for students to find a quiet space or seek support from a counsellor.
If you are concerned about how your child is coping at this time, please contact their Head of Year in the first instance.
We will continue to provide this support in the coming days and weeks, and will respect Mason’s parents wishes in terms of any memorial plans. I will provide an update at the appropriate time.
Please be reminded that there is a shortened week coming up. Thursday 1st May is a public holiday, and Friday 2nd May is a staff training day.
Best wishes,
Mark Poulsum

Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
We have been so proud of our Year 7 students this week. Their behaviour and decorum around the campus in what has been a difficult week has been excellent. Our Counselling Team has included resources for you to access should your child be struggling during this time. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with Mason's parents, wider family and friends.
Next week, with Thursday's Public Holiday and Friday's staff training day, students will attend school Monday-Wednesday and then return on the following Tuesday 6th May.
Have a good weekend.

Year 11 Message
Students began their written GCSE exams today with approximately 100 students sitting 1st language Chinese and Foreign language Chinese. Students were organised and seemed prepared and calm.
Please help your child to ensure they know exactly when and where all their exams are over the next two months. We will be here to meet them and support them before and after every exam. Students may choose to study at school during normal school days. Please wear normal uniform and work in the LRC.
All exam instructions and reference materials are available here.
Results Website & Login Information
Two emails (Cambridge and Edexcel) regarding results websites and login information have just been sent to students.
Cambridge: On results day, follow the instructions in the email to check your results. Please keep your username and password safe. You may wish to print out a copy of the email for safekeeping.
Edexcel: Follow the instructions on the email to activate your ResultsPlus account as soon as possible. If you do not activate your account, you will not be able to check your results. During the activation process, you will be asked to input your email address. Please use an email account you have access to. If you are leaving KGV, you might wish to use your personal email address. *IMPORTANT* Do NOT wait until results day to activate your account. Account activation takes time and doing it on results day will cause a delay (up to 1-2 days) in accessing your results.
If you have registered for AQA subjects, please note that results will be emailed to you on results day.
Please contact Exams Office (exam@kgv.edu.hk) if you have any questions. Thank you!
Year 10 Message
It has been a subdued week at KGV this week, with students and staff taking time to talk and look out for each other.
We have transitioned back to summer uniform and students are not required to wear a tie.
Our Year 11 students began their formal GCSE exams today with Chinese language exams for 100 students. GCSE exams continue now until 18th June. For the rest of the term, Year 10 students will be our focus during tutor time as we hold 1:1 discussions and ensure they are on-track to achieve their goals and make the most of their time.

KGV Learning Arrangements during Inclement Weather
Dear Parents and Students,
At this time of year, we may experience inclement weather that leads to schools being closed due to Hong Kong-wide weather warnings. We intend to ensure a continuity of learning as far as possible when schools are closed.
I am writing to provide an overview of our approach if KGV is closed at the start of the school day due to inclement weather. This is summarised below:
T8 signal or Red Rain |
Our teachers will start each lesson using Google Meet from Period 2 onwards.
The link for the Google Meet will be posted on students’ home/online learning logs on LIONeL.
For the first part of the lesson, the teacher will provide instructions for the work that needs to be completed and the opportunity for students to ask questions. The teacher will also complete the register.
The teacher will then continue to deliver the lesson through Google Meet, or students will be able to work independently.
Teachers will be available during each lesson to answer any questions or provide further support. This could be by email or by Google Classrooms. |
T9, T10 and Black Rain |
Safety becomes our first priority for all community members because there is a higher risk level during these weather events. This means we do not provide lessons for students whilst these signals are in force.
If these signals are lowered before 12pm, we will resume lessons through Google Meet. |
We will aim to follow the timings of the school day as far as possible, as outlined below:
Timings for Online learning during Red Rain or T8
Monday |
Tuesday to Friday |
|
Planning Time |
8.15 - 9.15 - This time will allow teachers to plan their lessons and send Google Meet invites. Students should check LIONeL for details and plan their day's schedule. |
|
Period 2 |
9.15 - 10.05 |
9.25 - 10.25 |
Break |
10.05 - 10.45 |
10.25 - 11.15 |
Period 3 |
10.45 - 11.35 |
11.15 -12.15 |
Period 4 |
11.45 - 12.35 |
12.25 - 1.25 |
Lunch |
12.35 - 1.15 |
1.25 - 2.20 |
Period 5 |
1.15 - 2.05 |
2.20 - 3.20 |
If your child is unable to join the Google Meets or access the lessons during the day, they should let their teacher know as soon as possible. We will ensure there are opportunities for them to complete the work at a later date.
What if Red or Black Rain signals are raised during the school day?
As you will be aware, students cannot travel independently if red or black rain signals are in force.
If Red or Black rain signals are still in force at the end of the school day, we will follow the EDB and ESF guidelines, which are as follows:
In each of these situations, communication is key; in such circumstances, we will ensure regular updates are provided to parents via the ESF App.
I hope this information proves useful and equally hope that we do not need to use these procedures!
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Principal
Dear Parents,
Please be informed that the KGV 130th Anniversary Gala Dinner has been postponed to 30th September 2025.
Should you have any questions or require further information, feel free to contact Ms. Kathy Ribeiro at kathy.ribeiro@kgv.edu.hk.
Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references and grade summaries, including potential exit & summer programmes.
To protect our students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release any student information to external parties. KGV will only fulfil requests once we have received this permission.
To request a school reference or grade summary, parents are kindly asked to complete this form.
Students should not use their KGV account to log in to this form. This is to ensure that parental consent is obtained before we release any student information.
Students should reach out to teachers to invite them to be recommenders. It is beneficial for students to provide teachers with information about the programme for which they are applying, as this helps in preparing meaningful recommendations. Please be mindful of additional workloads on teachers when making these requests.
Typical lead time for teachers to prepare references is four working weeks.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
If students are pursuing external extension programmes outside of KGV, they should read and follow the information on this website: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities .

Year 13 Exit Preparation – Parent: 1 pm on Tuesday 29 April, via Zoom. to go through the Y13 exit procedures, including how we support our students, final school transcript arrangements, student actions for H.E. and post-result actions. Zoom link will be emailed to all Y13 parents by 28 April morning.
IBO Result Service. The H.E. Team spoke to all students doing IBDP or courses on getting this done. Students should also check the exam pack sent by our Exam Office who looks after all matters related to IBO Result Service. This service allows IBO to send students’ final IB exam results directly to specified universities right after result release. This is crucial to confirm offers.
