Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Ongoing professional learning is a key commitment for KGV staff as we are always striving to improve the educational experience of our student community. Today (Friday 2nd May) our staff will engage in training on ‘Restorative Pathways’ led by Kristy Elliot. She is a globally recognised consultant who uses the science of wellbeing and restorative approaches to build the strong relationships that underpin academic success.
This aligns with our strategic priority of each student being ‘Known, Heard, Safe, Successful.’ The fostering of these strong relationships are central to the aspiration of KGV being a School for One where each student can Be their Own Remarkable.’ We will be working with Kristy over the next 18 months, and there will be the opportunity for students to join her workshops in August.
You may be aware that the farewell services for Mason Wilkinson will happen next week, with some of our staff and students attending to represent the KGV community. We will have a dedicated physical Memorial Space at KGV opening on Tuesday 6th May where students can come to reflect and sign the book of condolence in a quiet and peaceful environment. Our thoughts are with Mason’s family and friends, and it is a difficult time for many in our community. If your child needs support during this time, please let their tutor know in the first instance and we will provide the appropriate support.
I hope you have a good weekend with family and friends
Best wishes,
Mark Poulsum
Year 12 & 13 Message
We want to commend all of our students in navigating what has been an extremely difficult time for our whole community.
As Mr Poulsum has stated, the farewell services for Mason will happen next week, with some of our staff and students attending to represent the KGV community. We will have a dedicated physical Memorial Space here inside the Year 12/13 office at KGV opening on Tuesday 6th May where students can come to reflect and sign the book of condolence in a quiet and peaceful environment. Our thoughts are very much with Mason’s family and friends at this time. If anyone needs help during this period, please let your tutor know in the first instance and we will continue to support you in whatever way we can.
Our Year 13 IB students have made an impressive start to their final examinations. Please see the examination schedule below:

Wishing you a great weekend.
Year 11 Message
We are into the exam session now. Please remind your child to ensure they are using a locker to secure their belongings during their exams and that they arrive at school with time to spare. We are reminding them to write their names carefully on their papers and double-checking wtaches, phones and stationery.
Please help your child to ensure they know exactly when and where all their exams are over the next two months. We will be here to meet them and support them before and after every exam. Students may choose to study at school during normal school days. Please wear normal uniform and work in the LRC.
All exam instructions and reference materials are available here.
Results Website & Login Information
Two emails (Cambridge and Edexcel) regarding results websites and login information have just been sent to students.
Cambridge: On results day, follow the instructions in the email to check your results. Please keep your username and password safe. You may wish to print out a copy of the email for safekeeping.
Edexcel: Follow the instructions on the email to activate your ResultsPlus account as soon as possible. If you do not activate your account, you will not be able to check your results. During the activation process, you will be asked to input your email address. Please use an email account you have access to. If you are leaving KGV, you might wish to use your personal email address. *IMPORTANT* Do NOT wait until results day to activate your account. Account activation takes time and doing it on results day will cause a delay (up to 1-2 days) in accessing your results.
If you have registered for AQA subjects, please note that results will be emailed to you on results day.
Please contact Exams Office (exam@kgv.edu.hk) if you have any questions. Thank you!
Year 10 Message
Year 10 students are engaging in 1:1 conversations with their tutors at the moment while Year 11 students are out for exams.
We have had to remind students to put their phones away and to wear uniform correctly this week.
They will soon be headed into multiple assessments as the second semester of the year draws to a close over the next 6 weeks or so.
Year 8 & 9 Message
Dear Parents,
Year 9 Ocean Park
To celebrate students successfully completing their MYP journey, we are organising a trip to Ocean Park during the last week of term. You should have received a letter with details of the event earlier this week. Please complete and return the slip below confirming whether you give permission for your child to go on this trip and state which of the options you want your child to take for leaving Ocean Park. Payment should be made through the ESF app once the invoice has been received. The deadline for returning the reply slip is Wednesday 7th May.
If you have any questions please contact Mr Ashley Tranter (Senior Head of Year) at ashley.tranter@kgv.edu.hk.
Year 8 Options
Year 8 students have recently completed their preliminary language choices for Year 9. Now it is time to confirm these choices as well as enter their arts options. These choices will be made on Lionel through the student’s account. The options will open on Tuesday 6th May and close at the end of the day on Wednesday 14th May.
To help with these choices and reflect the most common questions we are asked, we have put together the information below:
Languages
The options are;
continue studying the same two languages (Chinese plus a European language)
continue studying one language and a support class
continue with one language and take Global Perspectives
continue with Chinese and take extension Chinese in place of the European language
Students will have more information shared with them in their language lessons, and if parents have a specific question or need more information, they should contact their child’s language teacher directly.
Arts
Students will take one visual and one performing art subject in year nine. Students can select either Art or Media for their visual art. Students can select either Drama or Music for their performing art. Any choice they make for year nine will not prevent them from taking a subject at GCSE in year ten. Students may also select a subject that they are not currently studying.
For information on Art, Media, Drama or Music please talk to your current teacher or contact the following Head of Department if you wish to pick up a subject you have not studied in Year 8
Wishing you all a lovely long weekend.
Year 7 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians
We hope you are enjoying the long weekend and are able to spend time as a family.
Today in our staff training, we collectively explored further how we can strengthen relationships both between students and between students and staff. We worked with Kristy Elliott, who has supported us in developing restorative practices over the past 18 months.
Earlier this week, you were sent an email regarding our updated expectations regarding mobile phones. From 12th May, mobile phones are not to be used when on campus, with 300 Year 9 and 12 students trialling Phone Pouches. If your child currently uses their mobile phone as an Octopus for swiping in/ purchasing food, they will need to have acquired a physical Octopus card by 12th May.
Next week, we will be sending all parents a pre-trial survey, which will support us in our understanding of how the new expectations are landing with students, parents, and staff.
Enjoy the long weekend. We look forward to seeing students again on Tuesday 6th May.
The Year 7 Team.
Dear Parents,
If you have ordered the KGV Lion Yearbook 2024-25, please pay immediately to secure your copy; no guarantees after payment deadline.
Thank you for your support.

KGV Careers & H.E. Team
The KGV Careers Office coordinates all our student references and grade summaries, including potential exit & summer programmes.
To protect our students’ privacy, parental permission is required before KGV can release any student information to external parties. KGV will only fulfil requests once we have received this permission.
To request a school reference or grade summary, parents are kindly asked to complete this form.
Students should not use their KGV account to log in to this form. This is to ensure that parental consent is obtained before we release any student information.
Students should reach out to teachers to invite them to be recommenders. It is beneficial for students to provide teachers with information about the programme for which they are applying, as this helps in preparing meaningful recommendations. Please be mindful of additional workloads on teachers when making these requests.
Typical lead time for teachers to prepare references is four working weeks.
School references for higher education applications are managed in a separate process.
If students are pursuing external extension programmes outside of KGV, they should read and follow the information on this website: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities .
