Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful summer break. We are looking forward to welcoming your child back to KGV for what I am sure will be an exciting year ahead.
I would like to take this opportunity to share a few key pieces of information ahead of the start of the academic year:
Start of Term Arrangements
We are committed to ensuring each student has a positive, productive and engaging start to term that helps them take their next steps to being their own remarkable.
Much of this work is focused on continuing to develop a strong sense of belonging and building their foundations for success. The year level messages in this newsletter will have more information on our approaches, and please note the key dates for when students will be in school:
Wednesday 13th August - Years 7, 8 and 9
Thursday 14th August - Years 7 and Year 10, 11, 12 and 13.
Friday 15th August - All students in school.
Timetables - these will be available on LIONeL from Monday. If your child spots any particular issues, they should contact the relevant curriculum coordinator. As outlined last academic year, we are looking forward to launching our updated KGV timetable, and this document outlines some of the key changes.
Healthy Learning Habits
I believe that quickly establishing effective habits and routines is one of the keys to success. As students settle into the new academic year, we will be encouraging them to make a positive start by:
Arriving at school before 8.10 am, swiping in using their Octopus cards and being prompt to lessons.
Ensuring they have the relevant learning materials needed for each lesson.
Keeping their mobile phones switched off and in their bag from ‘gate-to-gate.’
Wearing their uniform with the pride that comes from being a KGV student. The KGV website has full details of uniform expectations.
Using their planners and calendars to organise their learning.
By taking care of these key points, each student will be creating a strong foundation for a successful year ahead.
Have a great weekend ahead and we look forward to the students returning next week.
Best regards,
Mark
Year 10 & 11 Message
Welcome back to our Year 11 families, and a very warm welcome to our Year 10 families as they join us for their child’s journey through the two years of GCSE study.
Year 10 students continue to have Mr Conor Mannion as their Head of Year. Year 11 students continue with Ms Leah Gallie as their Head of Year.
The Year 10/11 team is Ms Jessica Lo as our office administrator and main point of communication, Mr Tristan Kent as Curriculum Coordinator, Mr James Fisher as Senior Head of Year and myself, Mr Tim Carrell as Vice Principal.
Please help your child prepare for school next week. Help them to identify their goals for the year and to have a focussed mindset. Please help them get organised for success by having their equipment prepared, uniform ready, encouraging them to use a locker and considering a regular schedule for homework and revision.
Next week, Year 10 and 11 students will attend school from Thursday 14th August. Students should wear tidy uniform and swipe in by 8.10 am. School photos are scheduled for that day, and students will be in tutor groups where they will be helped to get organised and connect with others.
On Friday 15th August, students should wear their PE kit. We will have regular classes in periods 1,2, and 3 and then interhouse activities to bring students together in healthy competition.
We look forward to working with you this year to support your child and help them achieve their goals.
