Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Despite the challenges and disruptions caused by the weather this week, it has been wonderful to see our students approach the start of the academic year in such a buoyant mood. They have enjoyed reconnecting with their peers, engaging with their teachers and tutors, and completing activities that ensure they are ready for a successful year ahead.
Our teachers have focused on getting to know the students well, both as learners and as people. Developing these positive and respectful relationships is key to personalising learning and ensuring a strong sense of belonging. This is integral to our aspiration for each student to be their own remarkable.
We also recognise that ensuring there is a strong home-school partnership is so important for each child’s success. With this in mind, we would encourage as many parents as possible to attend our Open Day on Monday 25th August. This will be an opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and make an initial connection. Further details can be found within this newsletter, and from previous messages from Tim Carrell.
Thank you for your continued support, and I wish you and your families an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 12 and Year 13
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was a pleasure to welcome our Year 12 and 13 students back to school yesterday afternoon! Despite the weather disruptions in the morning, Year 12 participated in online sessions covering the CAS program, Theory of Knowledge (TOK), and IBCP/BTEC requirements, while Year 13 had valuable interactions with our Higher Education team.
Today, we finally brought everyone together on campus, creating an exciting atmosphere throughout the school. The morning senior school assembly, led by Mr. Pritchard and Mr. Whiteman, provided students with an overview of the IB results for the graduating class of 2025. They also discussed the expectations of the IBDP/CP and BTEC programs, reminding students of the privileges and responsibilities that come with being in the Senior School, such as adhering to uniform guidelines and maintaining attendance of 95% or above.
For our Year 12 students, please note that all requests for changes in subjects will be on hold until after the GCSE results are published on 19th and 21th August. We will begin processing requests on 25th August.
We are excited to embark on this significant journey as Year 12 starts the IB program and Year 13 approaches the conclusion of their time at KGV. Our dedicated Senior School team is fully committed to providing the support and guidance your children need to thrive during this pivotal year. We look forward to collaborating with you to ensure a successful and fulfilling experience for all our students.
Have a lovely weekend.
Warm regards,
It was great to see all of our students today in good uniform and in good spirits. We had a full day of activities planned for students on Thursday, focused on building teams within tutor groups and helping them with goal setting and establishing productive habits. Unfortunately, the weather intervened.
We will look to take students through these experiences over the coming weeks.
Next week is the start of CAS activity signup and we encourage all students to get involved with activities that will give them a break from study, encourage them ot get moving, meet others and foster new interests. CAS is an official part of the curriculum in MYP and in the Senior School and we are encouraging students to maintain these habits in Y10 and 11 and start to look for opportunities for leadership and new experiences.
What a first week! Thank you to our students and families for your resilience and enthusiasm as we navigated the start of the year together with some unexpected twists from the weather. We're off to a fantastic start!
Important Updates & Reminders
Year 7 Laptops: All Year 7 students have their laptops. Remember, you as parents are the owners, and we see home use of laptops as a partnership. Teachers will communicate homework expectations to help maintain balanced device usage. To help students settle in, Year 7 students will not receive homework for the first few weeks of the term.
Nurturing Community: Students have connected with their tutors and tutor-group classmates. We encourage you to reach out to your child's tutor with any questions, concerns, or news from outside of school.
Upcoming Week: All students will follow their full timetable on Lionel. Stay tuned for the new date for our rescheduled start-of-year house activities!
Thank you,
Ms. Lashley-Greer

Learning an instrument (or a second/third instrument) is extremely beneficial for students.
We currently have students learning both privately and in small groups in the KGV music rooms during lunch breaks and after school. In the past we have offered drum kit, violin, viola, saxophone, trombone, etc., lessons and we are currently in touch with instrumental teachers to finalize lessons timings for this academic year. Please fill out this form if you/your child is interested, to help us gauge interest. We will then be in touch with more information regarding timings and cost. LINK TO FORM HERE
We would especially like to encourage students to pick up an endangered species instrument (bassoon, viola, oboe, french horn, trombone, cello and double bass) and have instruments on loan for students to rent. The rental fee for the instrument will range from 250-350 each term. This rental fee goes towards instrument maintenance and repairs. Students that have been learning the piano for several years may also like to consider an orchestral instrument to try out, which will open up opportunities for joining our music CAS activities in the future.
Our recommended Instrumental Teacher List is HERE - Click the link.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Leung directly (melody.leung@kgv.edu.hk) directly. This form can be completed by either the student or parent.
Please fill out this form by 29th August.
Thankyou - Music Department
Dear Parents & Students,
The CAS Activity program is an important part of KGV life. Our aim is that all students become involved in some form of regular activity outside of lesson time for their general health and well-being. The KGV CAS Activities website is specially designed and dedicated to all things relating to the activities program (KGV CAS Website). During the first weeks of term, we encourage you and your child to browse through the site, have a look at the overview of activities on offer and then follow the instructions on how to sign up!
ONLY students can sign up for activities from their account through Lionel.
Important Dates:
For some sports teams, trials will take place outside of the dates listed above, so students/parents must check the sports-specific bulletin messages for when these take place and follow the necessary instructions.
Registration is NOT on a first-come-first-served basis. All students registered will be placed on the waiting list until the end of the registration period. If the number of enrolments exceeds the maximum number of participants, names will be drawn randomly by Lionel to allocate only those that have been pre-approved by parents to join the activity
For more information about signing up, withdrawal, allocation and parental approval, click here.
