Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
It was wonderful to see so many parents exploring KGV during our Open Day on Monday as they saw our learning spaces and connected with the teachers. This early opportunity to gain insights to the year ahead and foster the home-school partnership was enjoyed by over 700 families, and is the starting point of our approach to parent engagement.
We are also looking to involve parent voices in building our approaches to engaging our wider community and develop an ever stronger sense of belonging to KGV. This work has started with a PTSA focus group and we will be sharing outcomes of these discussions later this term. There will also be a series of workshops for parents, covering a range of themes including whole school initiatives, curriculum focus areas, and wellbeing. The first of these workshops will be on Thursday 4th September and is focused on KGV’s Improvement Priorities. This link has further details if you would like to join for this event, and Michelle Tsang will share more information soon.
I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate our (I)GCSE students who have achieved extraordinary results. From the 2459 grades this year, 95% of these grades were passing grades of 9 - 4 or A* - C. We also had an incredible 62% of our students achieving the top grades of 9-7 for EdExcel and AQA exams, with 57% of students sitting Cambridge exams achieving the top grades of A* and A. These outcomes are a testimony to the dedication and talent of our students, and the commitment and professionalism of our teachers. They also provide a strong foundation and motivation for our students to build on this success as they start their Y12 and 13 courses. Well done to everyone involved.
Have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 10 & 11 Message
Thank you to the families that joined us for Open Day on Monday. It was great to see faces and talk with you.
CAS signup closes on Sunday, and we are encouraging students in Year 10 and 11 to get involved and be active to balance their academic requirements. In Year 10, students have set goals for Creativity, Activity and Service for this term and there will be opportunities to achieve some of these through our CAS provision.
Year 10 students can request to change their option subjects. Forms for this are available in the Year 10/11 office. Any change requests need permission from parents.
Year 12 & 13 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
A big thank you to the families who were able to make it to Open Day on Monday. It was a pleasure to meet and interact with so many of you.
This week's Senior School assembly shone a spotlight on the robust support network available within our school community, encompassing councelors, social workers, Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSA), Heads of Year (HOYs), Form tutors, and Response to Intervention (RTI) tutors. Students were motivated to prioritise their well-being by focusing on essential elements such as quality sleep, steps or physical activity, and meaningful face-to-face social interactions. THe three Ss! The assembly underscored the significance of reaching out for support when necessary and reiterated the avenues through which students can access assistance within the school, including tutors, HOYs, and the We Talk Hub.
Finally, a friendly reminder for Year 12 students: requests for changing option subjects can be initiated starting today. For comprehensive information, please refer to the student bulletin.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
Years 7, 8 & 9 Message
It was great to see so many families on campus for Open Day on Monday! Thank you for your partnership and support as we ensure our students are off to a great start. Some notes and key reminders below:
Timetable: There have been a few timetable and rooming changes. Tutors have distributed updated printed timetables - please support your child in reviewing this so they are fully prepared for the week ahead.
MYP Journals: please review your child’s journal weekly to see an overview of key dates and their reflections. Your review helps to show them that this is a valuable tool, and keeps you informed on the meaning they are making from their learning experiences.
PE Kit: In the event your child forgets their PE kit for a PE lesson day, they should go to their PE teacher to discuss, and do not need to come to the office to report this.
Swimming Gala is approaching, on Thursday September 11th. Please stay tuned for further details.
Upcoming Assemblies:
Monday 1st September: Rowell House
Wednesday 3rd September: Year 8
Thursday 4th September: Year 9, Limitless Programme
Thank you,
Ms. Lashley-Greer
