Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Belonging and Engagement were themes that rose to the forefront at KGV this week. Our annual swim gala was a true extravaganza with so many of our students competing, and enjoying each other's success. Congratulations to Crozier for winning this competition, and it was a pleasure to see so many proud parents come to see their children compete at this exciting event. The enduring house spirit is one of the many aspects that make KGV such a remarkable place, and we will continue to encourage all students to participate in the wide range of events that happen throughout the year.
Our Creativity, Activity and Service (CAS) programme is another important feature of the educational experience we provide at KGV. Despite the weather-related interruptions on Monday, our CAS programme was up and running this week with students taking advantage of the many opportunities that are on offer. These activities provide students with the opportunity to develop their passions, try something new and build a whole range of skills that support their learning and enable them to flourish.
Opportunities such as the KGV House Events and the CAS programme could not happen without the dedication and commitment of the KGV staff, and I know their efforts are appreciated by the wider community.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Year 12 & 13 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Despite the disruption to our normal school schedule this week, the CAS Project Legacy Handover Fair took place on Tuesday, where Year 13 students showcased the impactful projects they've undertaken throughout their time at KGV. This event was a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate the remarkable achievements of our graduating class.
Parents and students explored a variety of stands that highlighted diverse projects, including:
Environmental Initiatives: Efforts aimed at protecting our planet and promoting sustainability.
Community Service Programs: Engaging activities that have made a significant difference in our local community.
Arts and Culture Celebrations: Projects that foster creativity and cultural appreciation.
Health and Wellness Workshops: Initiatives focused on promoting well-being and healthy lifestyles.
Attendees had the opportunity to speak directly with project leaders, gaining valuable insights into their work and discovering ways to get involved.
We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Dean Beard for his ongoing leadership of CAS and to everyone who participated in this event. Your support plays a crucial role in continuing the meaningful work started by our Year 13 students. Together, we can build upon their extraordinary accomplishments and leave a lasting impact on our community.
Thank you for being a vital part of our school community and for your commitment to fostering positive change.
Year 7, 8 & 9 Message
Adverse weather disruptions
Thank you for partnering with us to support your child’s continuity of learning as we continued this week to be impacted by adverse weather conditions. Please continue to give feedback on yours and your child’s experiences with this. Subject teacher contact information can be found in the ESF App, and you are always welcome to reach out to the tutor if you are unsure where to direct your feedback or query.
Swimming Gala
Thank you parents for supporting yesterday’s event in so many ways - facilitating your child’s attendance, helping swimmers and student leaders prepare, and even attending the event. It was wonderful to see so many of you there. Congratulations not only to Crozier House for winning the meet but to all of you for a successful community event.
Wellbeing Survey
Students will submit this during tutor time this week. This helps us to tailor our programmes for students wholistic success. If you would like more details on the survey tool and areas covered, please reach out to Rowan Varty who leads on Student Wellbeing initiatives at the school.
Assemblies
Please note assemblies this week:
Year 8 – Wednesday 17th September
Year 9 – Thursday 18th September
MYP Journals
A friendly reminder - please review your child’s journal weekly to see an overview of key dates and their reflections. Your review helps to show them that this is a valuable tool, and keeps you informed on the meaning they are making from their learning experiences.
Year 10 & 11 Message
Year 10 students during WIN time have all completed baseline testing, and we hope to share the results with you soon. They have also finished the first of six modules designed to help them understand how their brain works when interpreting the world and learning. This weekend, they should be writing short reflections in their Learning Blueprint workbook about why errors and mistakes are so vital to effective learning.
All students represented their houses and themselves well at the swimming gala yesterday. Congratulations to Crozier house for accumulating the most points.
In our assembly this week the Principal outlined our school goals for the year, we introduced the Y10/11 team and new tutors, shared a perspective on where they are on their KGV journey and reminded them to set and hold standards that are important to them.
We discussed setting up habits that allow them to become the person they want to be, in order to get the success they desire.
We celebrated the extraordinary efforts of a number of our students. Congratulations to:
Chloe Chiu - Inline Skating
Tsz Sing Wong - Cycling
Ashelee Feng - Cycling
Maya Chu -HKU Med High School Essay Competition
