Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
This week I have been speaking with students about the importance of resilience and how we respond when things don’t go as planned. By being flexible and adaptive, reflecting on what we learn from challenges, and considering the next steps, this is how we can build resilience. This is a key aspect of students being successful in their learning and I would encourage all students to reflect and consider how they are developing resilience.
There have also been some wonderful highlights over the last few days. Spirit Week has truly fostered belonging to the four houses, and engagement with our school charities. The strong sense of community that emerges from such activities is so important, particularly as the students continue to recognise the need to supporting each other and the value of being involved in charitable acts. Such approaches build a strong sense of empathy, one of our core values.
Over 200 KGVers also enjoyed the Gala Dinner, marking the culmination of our 130th anniversary celebrations. It was a spectacular evening, with all areas of the KGV community represented. This occasion highlighted the high esteem that KGV is held in across Hong Kong, with the blend of heritage and ambition making it a truly remarkable school. I would like to share my thanks to the PTSA for sponsoring this event, and it is the warmth and care of our parent community that makes such a difference.
Please note, Monday October 13th is a staff professional development day and the students will return to school on Tuesday 14th October.
I hope your children get the opportunity to rest, relax and reflect on their first half-term of this academic year. Have an enjoyable break.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum

Happy Half-Term!
In recent assemblies, the Principal Mark Poulsom has highlighted and celebrated the resilience of our student community in weathering the literal and figurative storms of the first half of term. Students have done well to continue moving forward on their journeys of learning, self-discovery and community building. We hope the half-term break is a welcome pause and refresh, and look forward to seeing everyone again on Tuesday 14th October.

Year 12 & 13 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians
This week, Mr. Poulsum’s assemblies have focused on the importance of resilience. Resilience is a skill that involves a combination of behaviours, strengths, and abilities that allow individuals to adapt, recover, and thrive when facing adversity. Just like riding a bike, you can improve your resilience with practice by focusing on your mindset, health, and connections with others. By being adaptable, reflecting on their experiences, and thoughtfully considering their next steps, students can strengthen this vital skill. Developing resilience is essential for learning how to respond effectively to challenges.
Parents can play a crucial role in this process by fostering open discussions about setbacks, helping their children view challenges as opportunities for growth, and creating a supportive environment where they feel safe to take risks. Together, we can empower our students to cultivate resilience, a skill that will serve them well not only in their academic pursuits but throughout their lives.
Thank you for your continued support in fostering a positive learning environment.
Please note, Monday 13th October is a staff professional development day, and students will return to school on Tuesday 14th October.
Enjoy the break!

Year 10 students have completed another unit of the Learning Blueprint in WIN this week. - your child should be able to tell you what "top down" and "bottom up" learning modes are, and to reflect on visualisation, deliberate practice and transfer. On Tuesday, the KGV Gala Dinner was also a spectacular success with 220 KGVers from all areas of the community coming together for this final part of our 130th Anniversary celebrations.
Spirit week this week had lots of interhouse activities and celebrations, culminating in the whole school wearing house colours today.
I hope that all families have a restful break over the next week and look forward to seeing students again on Tuesday, 14th October.
